If you have any interest in Eva Duarte Peron and her impact on Argentina, I would definitely recommend what we did. My wife and I took a half day tour of some of the important sights including the Casa Rosado, Recoletta Cemetery and ending up at this museum. I am sure what originally peaked my interest was a Broadway Show about her but there was so much more to this amazing story of how she captivated a country and was both loved and despised at the same time. The part that wanted to focus on was the love. Even the building this museum is housed in was a foundation of her foundation to house and educate the poor until they could find alternative living. Giving women the right to vote and becoming a voice for those who needed one. Yes, this also becomes a massive game of politics and this woman totally captivated me even though I learned things about her that did not sit well with me. Translation for me was not an issue as we had our own guide. I did not understand why the clothing could not be photographed. There are plenty of pictures of it right here in Yelp and you would think that there are also thousands of photos while she was actually wearing this clothing. This well maintained museum was a great final stop on my personal "Evita Trail." She was clearly captivating, knew how to speak to a crowd (remember, she was an actress,) and will last in the history book for a long, long time. Halfway through the small, elegant Museo Evita I had a thought: this is some seriously effective pro-Evita propaganda. But I was really enjoying what I was seeing and learning. My heartstrings were being moved by this experience. Yes folks, I was buying it all, hook, line, and sinker. Eva Peron was both a loved and despised political figure in Buenos Aires but this museum (situated in one of the buildings she used to house the unhoused until they could find homes) focuses on the good. You'll depart believing that the whole country adored her and why not? She was instrumental in giving the poor a voice and services, gaining women the right to vote, and ensuring care for those orphaned and abandoned. When she died far too early, the county not only ran out of flowers but surrounding countries did as well. Entry to the museum includes a link to a brief voice-over, in English, of each room you enter. So bring your earbuds, listen, and read and watch everything. It's all very moving and impactful. Buenos Aires has some great art museums but make some time for this museum. It's really wonderful. read more

I am a big fan of Evita and her story. As such, I didn't want to miss this museum. It was interesting, but a little disappointing. I think the problem, to be fair, was a lack of English translations for many of the signs. However, I was expecting more. The collection was mostly of her clothing, and a few news reels. In short, it's worth seeing if you are a huge fan--but I wouldn't necessarily go too far out of your way to see this. read more

Absolutely love and recommend this museum for a great visual and written history of the beloved Eva Peron. There are lots of rooms to wander through, video (in multiple languages on loop) that show lots of historical scenes. It was an interesting museum. I went early in the day today (Friday) and there were only a handful of people there. They have an audio narrative, lots of dresses, and interesting articles and overall it was pretty educational. The 7500 pesos to get in seemed steep considering the beaux arts museum is free and lots of larger and has world renowned artists like Van Gogh, Degas, Matisse and on and on. Don't Cry for me Gayle Vassar, I'm Evita-d out. 3 Stars for me, 5 Stars for you - 4 Star average. Evita died over 60 years ago and was the Wife of a brutal fascist dictator. We did learn throughout our 3 week Argentina journey that folks either love her or hate her. But no one can argue that her influence continues to have a huge impact on the national psyche. That impact continues on with Gayle, who couldn't get enough of Evita while we were here. That included visits to the Juan Peron Museum in Camarones, attending a Tango show featuring a schmaltzy "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" finale, looking at the Buenos Aires building with 2 different Evita's on opposite sides, the Evita grave at the Recoleta cemetery, a statue or 2, and finally the Museo Evita. I even suggested (and she agreed) that her Evita love was consistent with her love of the British Monarchy, which at one point included a baby shower with friends for Princess Kate's first AND second children. Like US presidential libraries, the Museo Evita accents and glorifies the positive and sweeps the negative stuff under the rug. At the same time, the exhibits are well presented and easy to follow, and it doesn't take much time to get through it all. I particularly enjoyed the material around her early film career. There's also a nice gift shop at the end for those who want to take some memories with them. The Building itself was apparently once a home for unwed mothers that Evita helped establish. read more

Absolutely treasured coming to see the Museo Evita. If you are even slightly interested in the life of Eva Duarte Peron and her legacy, then you must come here while in Buenos Aires. It can be a bit awkward to navigate the space but once you figure it out you'll be rewarded. If you don't speak Spanish then have a translation app readily available because you'll need it to fully enjoy the experience. read more

This is a variation of the white myth of Evita. It's 5 star in terms of what they preserved and it gives a decent history, but it is whitewashed. Which is to be expected as it is run by her family. So I knocked off a star for that Also if you don't speak Spanish you are at a huge disadvantage here. I do but I realize not everyone does and if you are just here to learn about Eva and don't you will be left disappointed. Since Eva is an international icon no matter which way you look at her, this was disappointing. read more

This was an underwhelming experience. For a woman as famous as Evita and for as much as the people of Argentina loved her, I was expecting much, much more. I breezed through this museum in 30 minutes. I'm assuming much of her belongings were retained by the family because there wasn't much to see. The museum also does a terrible job of explaining the history behind her. It's almost as though you have to have advanced knowledge of her to truly enjoy it. Spend $180 pesos elsewhere. read more

I really enjoyed the museum because of its simplicity. The employees were helpful and guided the guest from exhibit to exhibit. Evita was magnetic and I think the museum captured her essence by displaying not only her private life but also her political life. The museum does not allow picture taking except for the entry and the patio. read more

Many of the Museo Evita reviews here say that the audio tour is a must-do, so I'll give you the perspective of someone who chose not to do that. The reason was the price, plain and simple: the audio headset for one person cost about twice as much as the actual admission! My boyfriend didn't really care whether he extracted the maximum value from his Evita Museum visit, and I was too cheap to fork out more pesos, so we decided to forgo it. The museum is located in a historic mansion that the Peron Foundation bought and set up as a homeless shelter for women and children, and some of the rooms have been turned into replicas of that era, like the kitchen that has actual cookware and dishes used at the shelter. You enter through a foyer and basically follow a linear, chronological path through the museum. Along the way, there are videos and photos, audio segments, ephemera and artifacts from Evita's life, and of course plenty of dresses, suits, hats, and accessories to ooh and ahh over (photography is allowed). This museum did a better job than most Argentine museums with bilingual signage, perhaps because of Evita's international appeal, so I felt I was pretty much able to grasp what I was looking at. The restrooms were well maintained and clean, and there's a nice little gift shop next to the front desk where you can get all kinds of postcards, books, and memorabilia for your favorite Evita lover. They also sell international postcard stamps individually, which is where I got mine. Prepare for sticker shock -- the postage will cost you the equivalent of several U.S. dollars! Despite its many small rooms, the museum collection isn't all that huge, and it won't take you more than an hour or two to go through. That was plenty for me, but perhaps a serious Evita fan would enjoy the in-depth information presented in the audio tour. As it is, I think most casual visitors can enjoy the pretty clothes and jewelry and political memorabilia on their own. A quick stop and fairly interesting, but I wouldn't call it a must-see in Buenos Aires. read more

Everyone Eva fan must stop by here to check out the museum so I felt obligated to check it out. It tells a very positive story of a controversial but fascinating woman. Evita is a beloved figure in Argentina and this museum is in the old school she used to attend. It houses relics of her past, fancy dresses, famous outfits. It also tells a brief history of her rise to fame as well as highlighting her famous accomplishments. But it lacks the details that one craves like her mysterious sudden illness that doesn't allow her to accept her Vice President candidacy and quick death (had a hysterectomy but poorly treated cancer returned with undeveloped chemotherapy). Her mysterious disappearance of her body after she died (rumors of her husband keeping the corpse on his dining table) and her troublesome political stunts are some of the interesting tidbits that aren't presented in this museum. Complete with a small store with Eva collectables, and a cafe, one can spend some of the reasons Argentinas love Evita read more

This is a really great museum that tells you about the history of Ava Peron.. It leaves you wanted to know more about her life and the life of her husband. It is informative and well taken care of. We did the audio tour and it was very good. Had lunch at the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the food quality.. had the risotto and it was great!! read more

Unless your seriously intrigued by the life of Argentina's beloved political figure then you may not want to pay visit to this museum. What I found interesting is how detailed it told the story of her early life in film, then politics and later humanitarian work. I did enjoy the museum but it may not be for everyone. read more
