During a Germany trip, we started and ended our trip in Frankfurt. Stadel Museum is one of the top attractions on TripAdvisor in the city. I've been fortunate enough to visit some of the most significant museums of fine art in the world. Stadel Museum is on the same level as museums like the Hermitage, Prado, etc., but it is still very much worth your time. It's spacious and there's a lot of art to see. Some of the highlights include works of art by Degas, Rodin, Monet, Renoir, Titian, Warhol, and Picasso. Though the focus is on European art. A must-see when visiting Frankfurt!

We perused floors 1 - 3 and while there are some good historical items here, we found the museum to be laid out sort of oddly. The oddness may just be from our expectation of historical museums as often, they are laid out in a chronological order with signs and arrows directing you. This place was different. While we won't be back, I wouldn't dissuade anyone from coming here if they have the time and patience to explore it.

They had covid restrictions in place. The museum itself was massive covering almost 4 levels. There were other stuff that was interactive and all the artwork and paintings had detail captions highlighting the showcase. I personally recommend this museum. It was neat think "Hey, I've seen this before" because the Mark Dion exhibit was also going on at the Boston Contemporary Art Museum that I saw last month. The second exhibit was "Glanz Und Elend" (Splendor and Misery in the Weimar Republic). Political and social tensions during the years after the First World War. A little shocking, a little depressing, a lot interesting. All told, well worth the admission. I'm glad I made this one of my art stops in Frankfurt!

Since it's an exhibition hall and not a museum, it shows artworks for a certain period of time without actually owning artworks. The building is located in the city center and has been built during the 80's but still looks contemporary and modern because of its simple and minimalistic design. Descriptions of artworks and even the toilet signs are printed on white walls so they look like typographic art. Exhibitions are well organized and range from mid-century paintings to contemporary installation arts and photography. It may be difficult to get to see an interesting exhibition while visiting the city but city residents can always choose to see what they are interested in. Entrance fees are moderate with rebates for groups, students and seniors. Car parking during the day is difficult because of its central location but always possible at the Dom/Römer garage.

No one very excited about it like what we saw at LA or London where they are more interactive games. This place feels like and an outdated science lab with a smell of decay. What is great: Earth crust and wall of difference crystals are well described and with many information not seen elsewhere, and with extra description, you can see what stone/crystals are form at each layer. What cause fossils form in 3D vs the more bend 2D version. We didn't even learn this at Tar pit museum where tons of fossils are still being dig today. Excellent! Museum platform style chairs like art museum. Since AC is almost not existed there, those chairs let's you sit down and read each description leisurely. Issues: We went to LA and London's natural history museum, this is not quite as big and as imaginative. First many exhibits came from NY, second the way Frankfurt present is very textbook and boring glass boxes, while in LA, you see each animals in their fake habitat. London's displays is a more artistic approach. Museum only label 50% of its exhibits with English. Description of exhibits are not very well thought out. Dinosaurs are not to scale but they won't tell you what the scale so you think why 50ton animal is same as the 5ton one. For exhibits with English, description is much less. Theme of each room and wall has not much thoughts puts to it. Price: 10€ for adults and 5€ for kids.

While the cartoons can be appreciated by non-German speakers, a lot of them (actually all of them) are in German. They also have temporary exhibitions which usually are related to the theme of the muesum (namely that they are either caricatures or cartoons). It's mostly a German view of progress with little attention to British, American and other contributions. Part of what makes this interesting. For English speakers only, you will need the audio with a iPod device. All exhibits are in German...my only gripe. The audio quality is very good, and each track is about 2 mins long. And kinda follows the layout of the museum. Helpful staff. This would be 5 Stars if the exhibits were also in English. I'd estimate that the English audio covers only 1/4 to 1/3 of the exhibits in German. One fascinating fact: Hitler required every family to have a radio to listen to his propaganda broadcasts. Also learned that the Germans routinely stole telecom patents much like the China of today. A bargain at 4.5 Euros including audio headset. TIP: the exhibit portion will have no interest to small children.
