They concentrate on guitars here, and the owner really knows his stuff; it's always reassuring buying something from someone who knows what they're talking about. They also have a whole lot of entry level ukeleles if you want to get in on the latest musical trend. There's also a bit of a studio down the end of the shop where people can occasionally be found playing; I imagine allegedly trying guitars out, but perhaps more just taking the chance to play a nice instrument!

After mentioning to the seller the prices I have seen online he very agressively told me to buy somewhere else. In any moment I lost my temper but felt very ofended when he insisted asking where I am from in a clearly sign of discrimination. If you wanna buy a piano, look somewhere else. Rockshop sells Roland and Kawai and Music Planet sells the Korg range (the awesome Kronos workstations). I am never coming back to Music Works. If you wanna buy Yamaha, look online. The model I am looking they sell from 3k NZD. The list price in Australia (with same plug/voltage) is 1999 AUD (=2.1kNZD). You can find still deals over this price. To ship to NZ they discount the GST that is 10% and you pay 15% when it arrive at customs. To ship is around 200nzd. 500nzd cheaper at least and doesn't need to be offended by an unprofessional seller. That's not to say that in the US (Amazon.com) the same piano is 1299USD.

It makes finding certain genres of books super easy as well, having everything so well set up. They also have nice little prints available for sale in the store as well, one which I bought for my office at home. Lastly I would just like to apologise to the cute sales assistant who I may have flashed, while going for a sneaky rearrange of my underwear behind a row of shelves that seemed to be private, UNTIL I saw the camera perched right above me. Evergreen has a great reputation in Auckland as a solid destination for second hand books…read more I always have a slight tinge of sadness that quite a lot of space seems to be taken up with popular fiction, and I really think the New Zealand fiction range needs work, but overall, it's a excellent place to spend more than you intended. The sci-fi range is particularly good and all the books are in really good condition, which makes a welcome change from finding a long-sought-after favourite only to discover that it's falling to pieces in your hands. Mucho disappointo. I've also had the welcome surprise at the till of having my order rounded down a couple of dollars, which is a really lovely way to reward customers who are buying a bundle. Overall, I would always come here for a browse when I'm in Devonport, but it's not really a go-to place if you have something specific in mind - in that case, I would head to Hard to Find books first.

For another, the staff are always so helpful. Whether you're looking to by picks or a $6000 keyboard, they're right there to guide you all along the way. They'll get instruments down for you so can have a little play when you're looking to buy. There's loads of great instruments there with top brands like Martin, Fender, Korg, and loads more. I love the back room with lots of DJ equipment, crazy electronic gadgets and little keyboards that make all sorts of noises and do all sorts of things. They are really ahead in the digital side of music but have really good traditional instruments. If you're ever in need of anything musical Music Planet should be the first place you go!

And because they seem to cost close to a month's salary in Australia, I figured I'd save a bit on the exchange rate and pick some up in Auckland. Immediately upon walking in, I knew I was dealing with the 1st type of passionate employee I mentioned above, and before I knew it, I just wanted to be friends with all of them. I picked some strings based on their recommendations. I lusted over a few custom left handed Martins. I snooped a little bit at the rest of the gear before leaving. Aucklanders are lucky to have such a wonderful music shop so centrally located and stuffed to the brim with the right kind of passion.

They have an extensive range of anything to do with music, gaming, computers, cameras (basically entertainment technology specialists). Whenever I'm in JB Hi-Fi they seem to have some really good specials. I purchased some Sennheiser headphones there which have served me well. They have all the headphones out on display so you can listen to music on them before you buy. I keep seeing a lovely pair in there, which are brown, gold and amazing, but my budget didn't quite stretch to them at the time (sadly). JB Hi-Fi Queen St also do meet and greats occasionally when artists are in town - see photo of Ellie Goulding (whose album Halcyon is worth a listen)!

The staff a bit nonchalant & disinterested (which is a shame), always been the case here. Great opening hours, you can sell your games, DVDs etc if you want some extra cash however (be warned) they pay peanuts. However, they do gift cards to any dollar value. Brill.

Looking like it's sitting in a disused church hall perfectly fits it's thrifty recyclability. Now, other than the revitalized train station, not much in New Lynn is new. Most shops and houses have an old and tired feel to them. So a thrift store in this suburb is going to be the bleakest, bluest building you can find. There are halting discussions about Coronation St and endless shuffling from rack to shelf; There are curtains in the menswear section. There is also a depressing attempt at a window display in St Vincent de Paul's, which is, again, at the end of a potholed driveway. This op shop is a somber affair, looking to retire shortly into a nursing home.
