We wanted everyone dancing and having a great time. Mark arrived at the reception hall a few hours before the guests were going to arrive. He wanted to make sure that he was all set up and ready to go before the guests started to arrive. I really appreciated that as a bride because, to me, it just seem tacky to still be setting up while the guests are mingling. Another thing I loved about Mark was that he was dressed up in a tux! A TUX people! Not ripped jeans or a polo shirt. People are dressed up to be at a wedding and it was great that Mark was too. Relaxing music was played while everyone ate dinner. Once dinner was over and the party was ready to start, Mark REALLY stepped up his game. We started out with the normal first dances but once he was about 4-5 songs in, he had EVERYONE up and dancing. Even my Grandma who was in a wheelchair! He took suggestions from guests at the wedding but for the most part, he chose all the songs. Mark has a knack for knowing when to play a slow song and when to play a dance song. I don't think there was ever a time during our reception that there weren't people dancing. The one piece of advice Mark gave my husband and me was, "Please don't give me a list of songs you want to hear. Let me do what I do best and read the crowd. I promise, you guys will have a great time!" He definitely held up his end of the bargain. I have recommended Butler Productions to every person that I know is getting married. He has even DJ'd my brother's wedding and my sister-in-law's wedding! We had a wedding and reception in Seattle and a reception in Minneapolis, so I had the chance to compare what you get when you try to save money on the DJ to what you get when you spend the extra. And honestly, you get what you pay for. I won't comment on my Seattle DJ, besides to repeat that you get what you pay for. But we knew we were going to have a smaller group in the Cities and that the DJ was going to have to play a central role in the reception here. Chris was our DJ, and he was great. He was there before us, set up went fine. He rolled with the punches when a bunch of technical stuff didn't work out. He made announcements, hosted a "game show" that we did for fun, and made the 10-15 people who stayed to dance enjoy themselves. Basically, he ran the show from 6:00 to 11:00 That's not to say we didn't have the night planned out...we did. But after listening to our instructions, he pretty much controlled the room. The DJ was a professional, and so was the set up. We weren't really penny pinching on our wedding stuff, but we're not rich either. But we decided we weren't going to skimp on the DJ here, and it was one of the better choices we made during this whole process.
