Spam and rice concoctions wrapped in seaweed. My wife and kids loved them. I got cool leftovers later, so was not terribly impressed, but those who had them hot and fresh loved them. My wife had eel and avocado added to hers. My daughter made them breakfast three days running. Served quickly. Order. Wait for your number to be called. I did not go inside because it looked cramped, so I cannot speak to the ambiance.

Quite busy on a Friday morning, but line moves quickly and orders are made pretty fast. I got a tuna mayo onigiri and an egg spam musubi. I think I prefer cold onigiris so the hot tuna mayo onigiri was alright for me. The egg spam musubi was great and flavorful. They do put a lot of rice in their musubis though. They were out of the inari when we came around 9:30am. Overall solid affordable musubis.

Having that high rating with over 1500 reviews was certainly intriguing. We're lucky we stayed super close and bumped into this Musubi cafe. It's busy since relatively early in the day but ordering process was seamless and they got the order pretty quick. Your number would be called when everything's ready. Their menu was rich that you had tons to pick from. Price was decent for the size as well. Our picks were the salmon ikura and spam shrimp avocado. Both were so good and our highlight would certainly be how they nailed the sauce.

This was honestly one of my favorite food spots I've tried in Waikiki so far. I got the miso salmon musubi, unagi, egg & spam musubi, and the spicy tuna -- every single one was super delicious. Especially the unagi one and spicy tuna one! The prices were really affordable, everything came out fast and service was great. I appreciated that there wasn't unnecessary onion or filler overpowering the flavors. Just really solid, fresh, flavorful food. They also have cute merch in the shop which made the place feel even more fun, OG and local. Mega recommend if you're in the Honolulu/Waikiki area. I'd especially recommend going around 4 PM -- perfect snack or early dinner moment. I came here again on my way to the airport to have a good hearty snack on the flight. Definitely one of the best places I've eaten in Waikiki.

Musubi Cafe Iyasume is the bomb. It's the perfect snack and item to bring on a hike, I always come here every Oahu trip!! There's such a variety of toppings to choose from that you will be racked with indecisiveness... That is, until you remember that it is a five minute walk from your hotel and you can just come again the next day. I've never been disappointed with my order, even just the regular spam musubi is to die for. I liked my unagi musubi very much, the inside is cute and sells lots of gadgets and gizmos and Musubi Cafe Iyasume merch!!! This is a very cost effective place to hit up.

Musubi and onigiri that is made fresh. The rice was nice and fluffy, seaweed crispy and the spam and toppings appropriatley seasoned. Its a nice hole on the wall and the lady who took my order was very sweet. Atmosphere was that of a gift shop. Also, they sell the cheapest Spam musubi i have been to. They left the door openmsoma bird flew in.

I was already skeptical about Musubi before coming here because it seems to have a lot of rice and I am not a big fan of rice. I ordered their top 3 best selling ones and as I was imagine, it was a lot of rice. I ate their top top portion only and some rice. If you are Musubi fan, you might like it but not for me. Top portion was pretty delicious though, spam wasn't salty and pretty balanced with other ingredients. Service was great, the stuff explained each selection patiently. It was casual setting and cozy.

Musubi at Hanauma Bay. Great snack.

First time in Oahu and had to try this! Seems like a classic staple. Looking at the menu first, I was surprised by how many different flavors there were! I was also surprised that they had actual onigiri too. I tried the spicy cod roe onigiri and the classic musubi. The spicy cod roe was pretty unique to try, although I wish it had more filling cause theres def a whole lot of rice. The classic musubi also just tasted like a regular musubi LOL I thought it was would be a leveled up musubi but it tasted like a good old fashion musubi you can make in the kitchen. Again, there's a whole lot of rice with it too haha. I tried a bit of the black pepper one which was pretty nice, but I would definitely want to try the other flavors to make the trip more worth than getting the classic one.

Yum! Cant believe I haven't written a review on this place even though I have visited this location numerous times. Partly because we always finish the musubis before we even get to take a photo of it. Good sign, right? Located on Kuhio on the first floor is a mom and pop looking kind of a store. They sell store merchandise of their prize spam musubis ranging from tote bags, shirts, magnets, etc. They have a menu with photos and prices of each item they sell which makes it helpful while trying to decide on which one to order (although it's tempting to order everything). We always order teriyaki spam, spam w/bacon and egg, and spam w/bacon, egg and avocado. Occasionally, we will order onigiris as well. You cannot go wrong with any of their musubis. It is such a tasty treat/meal while you're on the go. Perfect for the beach! Enjoy it while it's freshly made and the rice is perfectly warm or eat it on the go when you can. Service is great and they can be busy depending on the time of day. Otherwise, this is a place that you must visit if you're in the area.

    Fun to look around!

If you haven't been here you are missing out. Whether its a meal or a quick bite, this is your place! I have eaten at almost all of their locations and have never had a bad experience...and I was happy to learn that this location has some really solid food. In addition to a bacon, avocado, and spam musubi, and a eel, avocado and spam musubi, I was able to try a curry bowl and a shrimp tempura bowl The musubi were what you would expect...made to order and delicious. The curry bowl was simple but very good. Thick and rich, the curry matched well with the veggies and rice underneath. The bowl was more of a medium size, but it was filling. The tempura shrimp udon was also tasty. The dashi broth was definitely the highlight. Light and sweet, this broth was a perfect compliment to the crispy shrimp and noodles. I will be back to try more dishes...and what's better than shrimp tempura udon at 630am in the morning!!! Nothing!

The musubi was so good! My favorite was the eel. They have a huge variety. Prices are comparable to other musubi locations. HAPPY

I loved going here. The price is cheap. Only $2-3 each, but they are smaller. It is a small little place inside. Just grab and go. They do sell cute little souvenirs as well. Staff was friendly and efficient. In and out quickly. I got a salmon with roe onigiri and a spam musubi. Yummmy! I wish i went again. I want more now. Haha

Yes we’re open Christmas Day And New Year’s Day Thank you.

I'm not sure about ordering online. I would recommend just grabbing it on the stop.

Is this place cash only or take cards?

    They take both.

Are any of the musubi gluten free?

Not that I know of due to the sauce involved in making musubi containing gluten. For sauces to be gluten free means no regular soy sauce which is not something common with most asian food.

Do they use MSG? Spam doesn't have msg?

    There's MSG in the Spam

    Any vegan options?

If you are talking about the musubis themselves, try the musubi with ume (plum), the hijiki musubi (savory seaweed filling) or the mixed hijiki musubi. I usually get those. I would recommend the daikon, seaweed and konyakku oden but most times the… Read more

If you're not a fan of seafood, don't let the squid deter you as it is a minimal part of the dish and added more of a crunchy textural component rather than actual flavor. This was my wife and my favorite dish. The luau pork was also very good though I liked the version we had at Toa Luau better. We also liked the haupia which was a very refreshing coconut pudding though for some reason our boys didn't like it. We also tried pipikaula which are thinly sliced dry-aged beef short ribs marinated in soy sauce and something else that made it sweet. If you know Korean barbeque, you'll instantly get the sensation that these are close cousins to galbi, though the pipikaula are much less sweet in comparison. The dry aging process also makes them a bit more dryer than galbi. On to more difficult stuff. I was enthusiastic about the fried butterfish collar but once I got a waft of the dish, I knew I was in trouble. I'm very sensitive when it comes to fish so the smell (more than the taste) was off putting. My wife was fine with it and enjoyed the dish, but if you aren't a fan of fishy fish, then I would skip it. The lomi salmon looked very much like pico de gallo with the addition of salt-cured salmon. My boys loved this dish because they love salmon but again I would steer clear if you are a seafood weakling like me. Alas, we come to poi. Had my hopes up since I love taro but the texture and a bit of sourness from fermentation deterred me from trying too much of it. I'm glad we tried it but not sure that we would get it again.

Highway Inn is known for traditional Hawaiian food, but we ended up trying some of the local-style twists. The kalua pig quesadilla was really good, and the tacos were solid too. The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

Took a chance any way. Server greets everyone who comes in. Too much work for only one server, hard to get taken care of. More than half the tables were full even before 5pm on a Saturday, and there's a steady take out business, too. Looked at the online menu since the server didn't bring us a menu and we were waiting, but it doesn't list the squid luau combo so we had to wait for the server to take our order. She did take care of us before the walk ins that were ordering take out, and we appreciated that. However, turned out squid luau combo wasn't listed online because they were out. Boo. So hubby and I ordered the laulau combo consisting of a nice sized laulau that was tasty, with a nice ratio of pork to leaves, very large scoop of rice, some lomi salmon that was mostly onions that were quite strong and bitter and almost no salmon, pulehu chicken, which was tasty and had a nice char, and haupia, which was good. So food was fifty/fifty. Hubby ordered a coke, which was bottled Mexican (means real cane sugar) which was yummy. They serve Mexican food so I guess they have other Mexican sodas, but I didn't bother to check the menu. We had to ask for water three times because the server was so busy. We had a lot left over since the portions are big. Not sure if we will be back, though. While the server was nice and trying hard to take care of everyone, having to wait to order (another family even came up to ask is they could order after waiting for awhile) and then having to ask for water three times is a turn off for us. Also - no squid luau where's Hawaiian food is served was a major let down for me.

Overall, it was a good experience trying Hawaiian food, but it's just not really our type of cuisine. The laulau was quite dry, and the preparation felt more like meat that had been boiled or cooked in liquid, which isn't something I usually enjoy. The lechon kawali had a crispy pork belly texture, topped with something similar to a salsa, but it didn't suit our taste either. Unfortunately, the cabbage served with it also had some black spots, which was off-putting. The BBQ short ribs were the highlight of the meal and the dish we enjoyed the most. We appreciate the experience and the hospitality, but the flavors just didn't quite match our personal preferences.

Then someone wanted to change from rice to poi. I tried many times and no one answered. Their voice mailbox was full. We e ended going there to make the change. He gentleman looked like he was working be himself. We bads to wait almost a half hour for him to finish the order. 2. Price - the prices were higher than expected. All the plates were $26.00 and up. 3. Food - The poi was very tasty and fresh, although a bit watery. The lau lau had a lot of lean pork filling, not a lot of leaves. The long rice didn't have much chicken and was a bit watery too. We enjoyed the sweet potato. There was also lomi salmon, haupia onion and chili pepper water. 4. As mentioned before there isn't much parking. The restaurant wasn't busy when we got there. Overall the food and service was OK. The price was a bit high.

During a visit here with my friends who was visiting from out of town, they both enjoyed their entree with a beer, love the atmosphere- we got to chat and ended up staying until restaurant's closing time. The waitress that day was super friendly, full of Aloha! I love the local foods, everything I tried was very tasty, When dining in I usually go with the 2 item plates, picking all different items ( Lau, Kalua Pork, pork belly, chicekn long rice and sharing family style with extra rice. The food was broke da mouth! During one of my dining visits, I was on my no carb lifesytle and got the Island cobb salad with Kalua Pork ( available in 2 sizes $9./$17.) Lettuce, cucumber, corn, tomato, avocado with Kalua Pig, and sweet onion dressing. Wow, I am glad they have this option for salads. I hope they don't discontinue the Cobb salad as it was so good! During this recent stop I picked up the Pork Belly and Pipikaula plate in short ribs style. This was such a great choice as my family enoyed it . Beer and Pork Belly for pupus and pipikaua ribs for dinner. They have daily specials (beef stew, beef tomato, chicken hekka, sweet sour spare ribs, beef stew, grilled fish, shoyu chicken, garlic shrimp) which sounds good too. You can pick plates in mini or regular, two or three item combo, but few dollars more for crispy pork, smoked meat Pipikaula. Please check out Oahu Grill in the Kaimuki area, opens daily from 11-9 pm.

It was very tasty and the squid luau had a mouth full of squid. The downside is look at the rice . The rice was very hard I guaranteed it was left overs sitting in the rice warmer and they served us the hard rice . Also the service was very slow only 1 worker but we were the only customer in there . I recommend this Hawaiian food place over others but maybe ill stop from know on . It. could be new owners I'm not sure .
