I was never a huge fan of Spam and always thought musubi tasted pretty much the same- turns out I just hadn't had local Hawaiian musubi before. These were incredibly flavorful and so delicious! We ordered four different musubi, which came out to about $13. There are plenty of options on the menu, so it was hard to choose. The Spam had a sweet-savory teriyaki marinade that was unlike any Spam I'd had before. Don't let the simple appearance fool you- each musubi is packed with flavor, and I think the house marinade is what really sets them apart. Orders are made fresh and come out hot. They also sell bottles of their signature marinade inside the shop if you want to recreate the flavor at home. While you're there, it's worth browsing the store too- they have lots of cute Hawaiian souvenirs and gifts. A great spot to grab a quick, affordable snack on the go! read more

Good for a quick cheap bite. What I didn't prefer was the differences depending on location. I was disappointed at the one near Royal Hawaiian. The salmon, tuna, or chicken and mayo ones had barely any stuffing. Disappointed and felt cheated. I specifically asked the member at the register if the item was stuffed with the contents. Their answer, "yes." Nope - barely anything inside. If all you want is rice, seaweed wrap, and a dab of the meat on top. You're good to go. A cute little shop that focuses on doing one thing well. This is a good option for a cheaper lunch/dinner option as most of the items are $2-3 each which is a welcome break from $20+/entree cost of most places on Oahu. One hundred stars! I saw this place somewhere online and I am so grateful, because this is such a hidden gem off the strip. But is it not unknown. We always say if there is a line out the door that is the place to try and this place definitely had a long line out the door, but that was fine, it gave us a chance to figure out what we wanted to try. They are such a small business, but not only have food but many fun souvenir items to buy. They have copies of the menu outside posted as well as menus you can browse as you wait in line, but also pay attention to the chalk board for more choices not listed on the menu. We all went with the same pick, shrimp and avocado musubi. It was so fresh, the absolute best musubi that I have ever had, period! They have more items that just musubi. People were coming out with bags and bags of food. Unfortunately for myself, I only had an appetite for one and we were not able to return since we were visiting so many spots, but I will be dreaming of this tiny delight! Being in Honolulu for the first time, we had to try musubi. This place was highly recommended in the area. We tried the shrimp avocado musubi which I expected to be really good and the eel egg which I expected to be strange. It was the exact opposite. The shrimp was breaded which didn't work well in my opinion. The eel and egg with the teriyaki spam married well. I wouldn't have to eat it again anytime soon, but I'm glad I tried it. You can never go wrong with musubis. This is the place to go when you just land in Oahu and are waiting for your hotel to be ready, beach snacks, and for your flight back home. They've been consistent and have the most flavorful musubis without doing too much or making it something else that it isn't. I know I can make it at home but it doesn't taste the same. Having that high rating with over 1500 reviews was certainly intriguing. We're lucky we stayed super close and bumped into this Musubi cafe. It's busy since relatively early in the day but ordering process was seamless and they got the order pretty quick. Your number would be called when everything's ready. Their menu was rich that you had tons to pick from. Price was decent for the size as well. Our picks were the salmon ikura and spam shrimp avocado. See musubi and onigiri have humble origins as a quickly made homespun snack or on the go lunch, and when you spot them in the convenience environment they're often a giant ball of rice with a tinge of protein or seasoning for flavor. At Iyasume, these are culinary adventures, stacked with ingredients, all in handheld form, and the variety they offer is IMPRESSIVE! Of course musubi starts with the classic, SPAM. I had to order the kimchi + spam, shiso + spam, and unagi + tamago + spam, all of which were awesome (even the next day!). Onigiri here are actually layered with ingredients, so you get them in every bite, unlike the convenience store versions! They have a HUGE menu, and I went with spicy mentaiko and salmon, spicy mentaiko and ikura, ikura and salmon, and tuna mayo curry, all of which were great. I LOVE that they make these to order. You can see the line in the back hard at work, and they're very fast. You're sure to encounter a line when you arrive, but don't be scared, it moves quickly. This was honestly one of my favorite food spots I've tried in Waikiki so far. I got the miso salmon musubi, unagi, egg & spam musubi, and the spicy tuna -- every single one was super delicious. Especially the unagi one and spicy tuna one! The prices were really affordable, everything came out fast and service was great. I appreciated that there wasn't unnecessary onion or filler overpowering the flavors. Just really solid, fresh, flavorful food. They also have cute merch in the shop which made the place feel even more fun, OG and local. Mega recommend if you're in the Honolulu/Waikiki area. First time in Oahu and had to try this! Seems like a classic staple. Looking at the menu first, I was surprised by how many different flavors there were! I was also surprised that they had actual onigiri too. I tried the spicy cod roe onigiri and the classic musubi. The spicy cod roe was pretty unique to try, although I wish it had more filling cause theres def a whole lot of rice. The classic musubi also just tasted like a regular musubi LOL I thought it was would be a leveled up musubi but it tasted like a good old fashion musubi you can make in the kitchen. Again, there's a whole lot of rice with it too haha. The curry bowl was simple but very good. Thick and rich, the curry matched well with the veggies and rice underneath. The bowl was more of a medium size,but it was filling. The tempura shrimp udon was also tasty. The dashi broth was definitely the highlight. Light and sweet, this broth was a perfect compliment to the crispy shrimp and noodles. Partly because we always finish the musubis before we even get to take a photo of it. Good sign, right? Located on Kuhio on the first floor is a mom and pop looking kind of a store. They sell store merchandise of their prize spam musubis ranging from tote bags, shirts, magnets, etc. They have a menu with photos and prices of each item they sell which makes it helpful while trying to decide on which one to order (although it's tempting to order everything). We always order teriyaki spam, spam w/bacon and egg, and spam w/bacon, egg and avocado. Occasionally, we will order onigiris as well. You cannot go wrong with any of their musubis. It is such a tasty treat/meal while you're on the go. Perfect for the beach! Enjoy it while it's freshly made and the rice is perfectly warm or eat it on the go when you can. I knew during my stay in Waikiki that I had to check out Musubi Cafe. This location is located right by the beach. Parking can be tough since there is limited street parking. But I got dropped off to pick up some goodies and picked up. I love that they had so many different versions of musubis, rice bowls, and rice balls. Even for just their spam musubis they had so many different options I was almost overwhelmed. I went with their original spam musubi and an avocado eel one. Both were really good just a little pricey compared to some places. I love the eel and avocado combination one and if you like eel then I highly recommend it. As before, they were really good, but the ratio of goodies and rice was still off... just too much rice compared to the goodies on top. No indoor seating or outdoor seating, this place is strictly a grab-n-go shop. All of their musubi's are pictured on the wall and there's at least 40 different styles. It was a little overwhelming, but I went with a breakfast musubi with egg and bacon, an avocado musubi with spam, a classic musubi, and a double bacon wrapped musubi. This was literally rice and egg wrapped in two giant strips of bacon and no nori. These were all delicious, with the avocado and spam being my favorite, but nothing beats a classic musubi.
