An interesting temporary exhibit about Neanderthal man. And a lovely space, with a spectacular view of the Tour Eiffel from the windows (especially at the cafe on the top floor). My teen found the medical history in the permanent exhibit particularly fascinating. There are a lot of individual cool things in the various exhibits. However, as others have said, the curation leaves a lot to be desired. Exhibits, and the flow from one to the next, seem very haphazard. There is no story to follow, no details of life, and everything from all eras and all races/places are all jumbled together. The effect is more like someone's personal cabinet of curiosities than a coherent plan for an exhibit. This was even true of the Neanderthal exhibit, which has an obvious and poignant story to tell. I can read French somewhat, so perhaps I missed the story somewhere, but other people seemed as perplexed as we were. There is mention but no real discussion of the interbreeding with modern man for example. One cool but odd feature was a wax dummy of a Neanderthal woman, as if they had survived to the present, and she was dressed and placed as if actually a tour guide. She is in modern clothing, standing in the middle of the room, and holding up a pamphlet, as if in mid-explanation. Both my daughter and I thought for a second that she was alive. read more
