That unknown stranger actually crossed the street with me in an extra effort to be helpful. That experience was quickly followed by three more good luck happenings. 1 we found handicap parking FREE (Mondays ) directly in from if the front palace gate as in cross street you are at the palace. 2. Then when I went to buy our admission tickets I discovered that the palace loaned wheelchairs at NO charge. 3!!! Expecting a half price reduction (cause in the last hour admission is reduced 50%) was told that 'Des personnes handicapés ET LEUR ASSISTANT sont gratuit ' we were Both FREE. Now none of this is directly related to the beautiful experience of the Francois I 'hunting lodge' palace. Each room has a different theme and colour palette. The tapestries and grands salons are AMAZING. I couldn't help but marvel at the size of the royals entourage made clear by the many many additional chairs and stools in various rooms you might otherwise think a bit private. You could also see their stations given the height of chairs and proximity to the royals. Some things were highly valued like the council room and others not so much like the teeny tiny bath room (a closet) that housed an extra small muslin lined copper tub (1/2 size of a modern tub) and a bowl-basin- toilet. The gardens were a bit disappointing in that they were not wheelchair accessible and I was expecting an English garden filled with assorted flowers but it was a big expanse of grass with a few nice sculptures. All in all a lovely castle to explore.

Visiting Château Vaux le Vicomte honestly felt way more grand than I expected. The first thing that…read morestood out to me was how perfectly straight and symmetrical everything was, especially the long pathway leading directly to the building. The lawns on both sides were super clean and evenly cut, and the way the side buildings and arches line up makes everything feel really organized and planned out. When I got closer to the front of the building, the details really stood out and the whole place just gave off a really formal and almost royal type of vibe. One thing I also noticed was the water surrounding parts of the structure, which added a cool visual but also made it feel a little more separated from everything else. If I had to say one downside, it might feel a little too structured for some people since everything is so precise and controlled. But overall, I would definitely recommend checking it out because the design is really impressive, and you can tell a lot of effort went into making everything look balanced and visually appealing.

During the summers there is also a shuttle service and a candle-lit time for visits as well.

You follow the walkway bordered by grass (as pictured) and it's pretty quiet if you're not there during the fete. There's an impressive gateway with drawdridge. The tops of the walls are accessible from the inside by steep stairs. The view from there is pretty good. The town streets are crowded, cobbled and hilly with deep gutters. Many houses and boutiques have authentic-looking medieval facades. There are some museum sites inside worth the price of admission (which is reasonable for what you can see). The staff is helpful and pleasant, many of them English-speaking.

I was lucky enough to have a tour guide, who was very knowledgable and able to put everything I was seeing into context. Besides the quaint homes and dusty roads, there are large towers, churches, and other historical edifices worthy of thorough inspection and admiration. I remember a church with stunning artwork inside that was the highlight of my trip to Provins. Also, we were allowed to climb up the top of the bell tower which afforded a fabulous view of the area. When you're ready to enter the 21st century again, there is an area of modern day shops and restaurants that are fun to peruse. My only suggestion would be not to spend like 6 hours here. Not necessary. I would say about 3 hours is a great amount of time to check out Provins and not teeter on boredom.
