If you've been to Paris more times than a few and are looking to enjoy some of it's smaller less known museums you'll likely stumble across Musée Marmottan Monet. Is it l'Orangerie? No. Is it charming? Oui. I stopped in Saturday before last for a visit. Admittingly, I didn't spend a really long time here and it'd be a lie if I said it was my favorite smaller musée but there were a few pieces that spoke to me on this visit, that are different than pieces that usually tend to catch my eye. Comparison is the thief of joie, we all know this but I couldn't help but think of l'Orangerie and the water lilies here. Maybe it was just me, I may have been in a different space all together - I dipped away to Paris for a solo weekend so maybe on a different visit I'll feel differently. Le Train Dans Le Niege, La Locomotive 1875, was my favorite of my visit. It's a piece I've never seen before and captured my attention for a good long while. With anything Monet, I feel I have to say you'll be doing yourself an injustice if you don't make it out to Giverny and take it all in for yourself from his garden. Call me crazy I didn't love the Neo Romantics exhibit, not my style. The Berthe Morisots were lovely and I really liked Bergère couchée. There was one missing, possibly on loan that I'd spotted on a postcard in the gift shop and went back upstairs to look for and couldn't find. The collection is quite nice. I'd recommend a visit if you enjoy impressionists and are looking for a smaller, quieter experience. Of course I can visit the larger museums time and time again, but sometimes I enjoy visiting smaller ones I haven't yet had the chance to experience.

Beautiful setting. If you love Monet or the impressionists in general, this is a definite must see. The house is filled with interesting things to see and read. The downstairs rooms filled with Monet's water lilies are stunning. Larger than you could imagine with so many colors and variations. A don't miss collection if you have the opportunity.

An amazing museum with all kinds of Monet artwork! It's three floors, don't forget to check out the beautiful works of art in the basement under the gift shop. They give you an audio speaker to listen to each station that has a two digit ID number on it. The place is clean, and the security is not a bother. Two sets of restrooms are very convenient.

This museum is a must see for any Claude Monet fan! They have the largest collection of Monet's work in the world and devote almost an entire floor to his paintings. The gallery walls are covered in massive canvases of his beautiful work. I was impressed and surprised this museum isn't more well known. On the bright side, it allows you to enjoy his work without fighting the huge crowds at the other famous museums in the city. The museum offers an audio guide rental for 3 euros. The audio guide is terrible and offers recordings for probably less than 10% of the art work in the museum. I saw a group with a private guide who was providing them so much history and insight into both artists and artwork in the museum. I wish we had booked a tour as well so we could have learned more. My other tip is to go visit Giverny (Monet's home and gardens) as well. We bought a combo ticket at the museum which included Giverny and it helped us save time by skipping the long line when we got there.

    Entrance. Rainy day. No line.

If you love Monet, you have to see this museum. We didn't even know about this place until we got to Hotel Molitor and looked at the map of the area. There was a new exhibit being prepared in August 2018, this traffic flow was a bit strange. The place needed better signage. We had to ask where the Monets were located.

This place is a little out of the way for most tourist, but you well worth the visit. I used the bike share to take a nice bike ride up the river to get there while in Paris. The place was not too busy and of course the main attraction is the Monet paintings they have here. If you like Monet, this is the place to go. They also have some nice parks just down the street so you can take a nice walk around after away from the big crowds of tourist elsewhere in the city.

Wonderful museum located in a wonderful part of Paris. Off the beaten path of the tour groups so you won't be fighting the crowds.

I have to say, having a lukewarm experience was disappointing & so unexpected. I must have hyped up the Musee d' Art Moderne in my head before visiting because I was so sure that because it was a PARIS museum that it was going to "wow" me from beginning to end because surely, all Paris museums were supposed to have that wow factor. On a positive note, at least I can now share a few helpful tidbits w/ others so hopefully, you'll have a wow experience! :) Helpful tidbits: - - - research exhibits beforehand: During my visit the majority of the exhibits on display didn't "wow" me so I would recommend doing a little research beforehand to see if the exhibits being shown when you go are something that would peak your interest (I didn't do this & wish I would have) - - - budget friendly thing to do! It is free to visit this Paris museum so a great location to use the restroom and/or take a break from all your Paris sightseeing - - - security screening & free coat/bag check Hope, this info helps! We arrived an hour early and was second in line so we got to be one of the first to see the Mona Lisa right as they opened and were able to get as close as the public can get. The museum is closed to the public every Tuesday. We walked through the day before and it seemed that groups in conferences is what goes on during those Tuesdays that they're closed. I booked our tickets 2 months in advance, and was able to get the opening day slot for two. And just 20 minutes after opening, the room 711 in the Denon Wing where the Mona Lisa is, got packed. You can spend the whole day here and still not have seen everything. There are multiple floors filled with art work, and luckily there are elevators. There's also a small cafe, and restaurant on the first level, and then another cafe at the second. At the exit it almost turns into a mall of shops and eateries. So it might take you another hour past when you thought you'd be exiting. You definitely want good walking shoes, cuz you'll loose track of how far you walked, even after 3 hours.

I visited it last week and purchased my advance reservation ticket weeks before for last Thursday at 9 am. Taking the Metro there was easy and I arrived in the center by the glass pyramid at about 8:40 am. By then there were several hundred people already standing in the 9 am line. By 9 am there were several hundred more people behind me. I estimated about 1500 people were in my 9 am line. As we started to move towards security there were people already in the 9:30 am line and even some in the 10 am line. The crowds here are for real. It was almost 9:30 am by the time I got past security and inside ready to start, First problem. There are just too many people admitted every day. I found it distracting to look and admire all of the works of art in there. It's like going to a college football game. The Louvre reminded me of the second most popular museum which is The Vatican Museums in Rome. I've been there too. Second problem. Even some if the docents agreed with me that their map is confusing, I know that because I got lost a few times and asked them for directions, One of them told me that it's better to ask a docent for directions than try to figure where you are using the map! By the way you get your map in your language right after you pass security. This place is big. It's very easy to miss things you might want to see if you aren't careful. Now, I have a tip for improvement. When I visited The Vatican Museums a couple of years ago, I took a guided tour which made the visit pleasurable and less stressful, I failed to do that here. My mistake. If I had I might have a better perspective of this place. The guides don't get lost and also point out things that I might have missed. This is a great museum with high quality art and history inside. It's silly that hundreds of people will jostle to get Mona Lisa's picture but you will too like I did. Ditto on the Venus de Milo and Winged Victory. Don't forget afterward to visit the exterior of the Louvre including the nearby Gardens.

I can't believe I'm making a separate paragraph about the gift shop, but I really love this gift shop. It ended up being one of the most enjoyable stops of the trip. Arrival and First Impressions The museum is smaller and much calmer than the Louvre, which made it an easy transition after a busy morning. The space is bright with beautiful natural light and a peaceful atmosphere. We arrived without reservations, and it took about 45 minutes to enter the museum. The Highlights Monet's water lilies are the centerpiece and absolutely worth the visit. The scale, color, and immersive layout of the rooms make it a unique experience. The Challenges We waited about 45 minutes to get in without reservations, which could have been avoided with advance tickets.
