Seeing the final home of Renoir and imagining him taking inspiration from these surroundings to continue painting was inspiring in itself
We learned that Mrs Renoir purchased the property after learning someone was trying to take it to cut down all the old growth olive trees to make napkin rings. Being so appalled she bought the grounds and the rest is history. Those same trees still stand today and they are magnificent
There were also lots of orange trees, a lovely garden, original Renoir paintings within the house, family photos, and a nice film featuring Jean Renoir talking about growing up on the estate, and a few with Renoir himself painting in his wheelchair and surrounded by friends. Doing what you love for your whole life is definitely something to which we should all aspire
