Visiting Houston from NYC looked up things to do in Houston. This shop came up as a must visit. I agree!! The store owner was extremely sweet, informative, helpful, accomodating and a great person to ask about things to do in Houston if you're visiting! Was there longer than planned because of great conversation. The shop is full of so many gems stones and crystals and so many varying sizes! it probably the best store I've been to for this and I've been to a few in different states. The prices for things are extremely reasonable. There is also so much more to see and purchase here! I loved that she had a paper that explained the stones' purpose and another on how to cleanse and recharge. She did me the favor of highlighting the ones I chose and placed them in cute baggies. Such a positive experience and so many interesting things to see other than just the stones (that's just what I ended up buying). A Martyr for my Flaming Heart. I loved this shop. I entered it every time I came for lunch or drinks on this little strip. On days it was closed I would put my face to the window like a child at a candy store. I want everything in the window. The last time I came I got an Astros patch and a buddah head to ward off my bad dreams. I've bought a Calavera Catrina silver necklace here too which I adore. It's not Wal-Mart, they don't have everything, and the price range is higher but they do have unique items, and worth every penny. I like everything in this store but after going for years I most likely won't be back, owner doesn't know how to speak to customers. I took my three year old and because he kept saying look mommy and grabbing things I was rudely TOLD not to let him grab stuff and put them in the wrong place. I was right next to him the whole time making sure he didn't constantly telling him to be gentle and put things back but that wasn't enough and she went over to where we were while still in the store to make sure he didn't misplace anything. We left without buying anything because I was so upset. *update* common sense would tell you that hearing me asking him to put things back & telling him that something doesn't go there and to be gentle would mean I was closely watching and curtesy would be a "professional business owner" not telling customers what to do read more

I introduced my mum to this store hoping she could find herself some unique looking cowgirl boots for my cousin's wedding. As the location to finding this place was more difficult than actually experiencing this place. We quickly found street parking in front of some construction. Little did we know it was near the light rail, so we could of easily taken the train here to avoid all the trouble of driving. As we walked in, a Slovakia lady assisted us. Although, her English was a bit broken and she couldn't really understand what we were saying when we spoke, she was still friendly and giggled a lot. My mum instantly knew what boots she wanted, but she couldn't stomach the price of them. Then, she saw another pair she adored that left the same sour feeling in her mind. The price tag was sky high for something so used. However, my mum wanted the boots badly. As my mum and the lady was talking, I browsed the rest of the store and found lots of jewelry pieces someone who is crafty could easily use to make something magnificent. Also, there were lots of baby doll head pieces throughout the store. It kinda reminded me of that baby doll head spider in Toy Story. The handmade dresses were my favorite especially the pansy one, but then again the price tag was too much. We eventually left unhappy without buying anything. About three weeks past and I get this text from my mum saying her and my dad visited the store and another lady settled the price tag down and ended up charging my mum a lot less than before. Only drawback is that most of the store is geared primarily towards women with little on offer for men, and I saw very few things that would be a potential purchase for myself. My favorite jewelry shop in Houston. I am a jewelry freak (especially rings) and I always find beautiful pieces here. I never walk out of here empty handed. The location is convenient and have other cool businesses around. I love everyone that works there as well. You walk in and it's very welcoming feeling and these weird stuffed cat and other animals looking at you (lol). They carry jewelry done by local artists. Their selection of cowboy boots is very awesome. They also have pearl snap shirts for adults and kids but the kids' shirts are so adorable! I can never gave enough time to look around and there are so many little cute beads and vintage porcelain figures everywhere. I just adore this place. Things I purchased from here so far are: pony hair cowboy boots, Ganesha ring, Zuni tribe sun ring, sterling silver turquoise ring, elephant ring with its trunk that wraps around my finger, mushrooms and mice porcelain salt and pepper shakers, moon and star ring, little mushroom patch, Davey Crockett iron on patch from the 50s (how badass is that?)... This is an amazing little shop filled with oddities, vintage and handmade clothing and jewelry, and all manner of quirky home goods. The owner is a wonderful lady, and if there's something your hoping for that she doesn't have in stock, she will be glad to make for you personally. The prices are a tad steep, however that is due to the cost of making things by hand, and running a business in the midtown area. It is certainly worth every penny to find something truly unique. Speaking of midtown, the area and parking situation can at times be a bit tricky to navigate. Pay close attention to signage, and be prepared to potentially pay for parking. There are several interesting shops, restaurants and bars in the immediate area however, so its certainly worth the trip. But, most importantly, I stand with the owner who has clearly taken a stand against nazis by making a rather controversial anti-swastika coat. Support your local businesses, and support businesses who know right from wrong. Eff nazis! read more

I'm a recent fan of the METRO Rail, and my preferred starting station is the one right near here (Ensemble/HCC). Today, I decided to check out the nearby shops and walked into My Flaming Heart with a couple of friends. Pretty much everything in the shop is just as neat as it gets. Lots of great, stylish used cowboy boots, CUSTOM-MADE AMAZING DRESSES (sugarskulls FTW, I say, in agreement with previous reviews!), jewelry made on-site, old monogrammed belts, aprons, shirts, onesies, beads galore, old purses restyled to look neat, etc. etc. etc. As my friend put it, "a really cool Texas-themed store, which sounds like an oxymoron." I'm a big fan of things that celebrate their geography, and this store was a big win for me. Today, I left carrying only a couple sugarskull beads, as I am currently unemployed. But I look forward to coming back and having a fabulous dress made! Oh, and how could I forget? The women who run the store and make the jewelry and clothing are fabulous, funny, and extremely friendly. We made lots of small talk with them while we browsed, and they loved discussing the different things that we were checking out and telling us how they came upon them. =) read more

The Flaming Heart is a cool new store with custom men's shirts and women's dresses with a western flair. In fact the entire store is western antique themed with some of the coolest stuff you can find anywhere. The western themed antiques are amazing. Perfect for the eclectic collector of western antiques and kitsch. I also really like the aesthetics of her store. Very smartly decorated and comfortable to shop in. The owner Judy, is really displaying her passion in this store. BEST YET: I officially have a seamstress here in Houston who can whip me up the coolest shirts! She makes many of the shirts and dresses in the store and can even custom make her clothes specifically to your measurements. Her unique designs and fabrics are so cool. Sugar scull dresses and Tiki god western shirts are amongst the highlights - freaking sweet. The clothes are adventurous and fun with a vintage flair. Be still, my flaming heart! I love finding stores that are out of the ordinary and unique. My Flaming Heart definitely fits the bill. There are vintage beads, jewelry, gifts, dresses, art, and much more. The jewelry is handmade and some are from vintage/flea market finds. The dresses are very cute and can be custom fit for you, which I think is very impressive. Everywhere you look, there is something interesting to pick up, touch, try on, or look at. There are vintage cowboy boots, and even cute items for kids and babies. The lady behind the counter was very nice and helped my friend with her bead selections. We were told that the owner picks up vintage items and other things for the store when she travels, so each item in the store is unique. Since we checked in through yelp, we got a $5 coupon and she ended up getting some very cool beads (for a necklace) for under $3 bucks. Score! I was visiting from Chicago and a friend suggested I stop in. I was in love in the minute I walked in the door! I am always on the search for distinctive, creative and interesting jewelry and clothing. And My Flaming Heart is filled with all of that! In addition to the fantastic jewelry the shop also sells beads and components to make your own one of a kind pieces. I am ashamed to admit how long I stayed in the shop and I wouldn't have left when I did but they were closing for the day. Then I discovered the dresses. Judy makes the most adorable rockabilly dresses with the most interesting fabrics - some she designs herself! Oh and she has great Western wear inspired shirts as well. I found a dress in a fabric I loved but alas it wasn't in my size. Judy came to the shop to personally fit me for my dress. The final product is adorable and people complimented me everywhere I wore it! I can't wait to order another dress! The customer service and friendliness of the owner and staff is the cherry on top!
