I'm an Air Force officer and needed to learn French for my next assignment overseas. I began lessons with Jon-Luc because I wanted to get a head start before my official language training started. I seriously knew "Bonjour" and maybe three other words when I started, but I learned very quickly with him as he was always prepared with appropriate material and very patient. His lessons had a good mix of technical study (conjugating verbs, possessive pronouns) and conversational study (hello, my name is___. nice to meet you) that complemented each other very well. I have studied other languages with several other programs and Jon-Luc is truly top notch because he bent his lesson to match what I wanted to learn and how I learn. Having taken classes at the junior college and various private classes, I have to say this is the best way to learn a language, hands down!!!! I am the only student in class so I have to answer all the questions and talk the whole time. In a class I only talk a little and as a beginner it can be embarrassing. We normally start out with about 20 mins of conversation and he can always keep the conversation going. I speak in a mix of English and French, he teaches me the words I don't know, then we move on to some kind of a lesson, either something that I feel I need to work on or he picks something , either a video for comprehension or a grammar lesson, both of which I need. A veteran of university classes and an immersion program in France, lack of use of the language seriously eroded my abilities. I use a wheelchair and have been taking French lessons off and on for many years but it is always difficult to be consistent due to class scheduling, transportation etc. I am so glad that I found Jean-Luc! He is an excellent teacher - patient, informative and organized. I took French in middle and high school and then went 30++ years without using it. I wanted to take a memorable trip to France for my big 5-0 and thanks to a year of prep with Jean Luc, I had the time of my life on this trip. I continued working with him on a weekly basis until I moved to Texas. It was a very personalized experience being able to have a conversation for an hour every week with a native French speaker. Excellent instructor. I have had many instructors and none as good. We use a systematic approach and I have made significant progress. We spend the first part of the lesson in conversation and then proceed to grammar and vocabulary. He always makes the lessons interesting with video and other activities to enhance progress.
