It helped me have more empathy for kids that are disregulated or need more help. You will never be a perfect parent, but I would not be as confident of a parent as I am now without the learnings I took away from Sunset Co-op. We applied for the AM session. We didn't get it. We were offered the PM session. We took it. We never regretted it. My son dropped the nap. He transitioned just fine. We had empty museums and parks in the morning all to ourselves before school. The school offers a variety of fun and engaging activities, including singing, dancing, and planting small plants. My daughter will be graduating from Growing Tree this August. I'm especially grateful for her teacher this past year -- Teacher Li. She is an experienced and caring educator who teaches the children many songs, dances, and even helps them perform in plays. Every week, my daughter comes home singing new songs and showing us new dances. Her crafting skills have improved a lot -- she brings home creative art projects every week. Her Mandarin has also improved significantly; she can now speak more fluently and even recognize some simple Chinese characters. We're truly thankful to Teacher Li and all the other teachers at Growing Tree for their care and dedication in teaching and nurturing our daughter.

I was delighted to see the campus (plenty of parking spots, quiet neighborhood, residential location and close to restaurants for afterschool pick up)! The preschool is large and has a huge yard for the children to play in during "recess" and at the end of the day. I think the actual amount of land they have for a school is impressive as the children are able to get their wiggles out without having to travel to a local park. While I was dazzled by the tour of the campus, I was absolutely amazed by the teachers and staff! They are all genuinely loving and greatly care about the well-being of the children! I am always greeted with a smile by each of the staff members during drop off. My child has so much fun playing with her peers and the large variety of toys, doing daily arts and crafts, eating their provided lunch and learning new subjects! She took a little bit of time to warm up to being in school and her teacher was so patient with her, spending extra time with her to help her transition. Other teachers and staff would step in to help out too if her teacher was not immediately available for help. Not only does the school teach "regular subjects" like letter recognition and counting, they also teach real life skills like what streetlights and stop signs are used for! (The school had a cute field trip around the neighborhood teaching the children about road safety). There are also a lot of extra features added to the curriculum to help enrich the children's education. They allowed him time to adjust and let him just observe at first, as he preferred, while holding onto his stuffy. His language skills have really exploded (I love hearing him repeat, "Wake up, little bodies!") and I know he's cared for while learning and playing.

The first thing we noticed when we walked in was how warm and welcoming the space felt. It's bright, filled with natural light, and thoughtfully designed. Even though it's not a huge facility, the layout uses the space incredibly well -- there are designated play areas, tables for group activities, a cubby area near the entrance, kid-height sinks, accessible but private restrooms, and even a backyard that's been turned into a small playground. One thing we really appreciated is the flexibility of their scheduling options. They offer: * Half-time (half days, 5 days/week with pickup before nap time around 1pm) * Part-time (full days, 3 days/week) * Full-time (full days, 5 days/week) That flexibility was incredibly helpful for our family. The school does require children to know the basics of potty training, but they also offer potty-training support for an additional fee, which felt very reasonable. They also offer optional lunches prepared daily. Another huge plus for us: breakfast is included with tuition. As working parents, having breakfast covered on those rushed mornings has honestly been amazing. Communication from the school has been excellent. They send a weekly newsletter that's actually useful -- it includes upcoming activities, reminders, events, and important updates all in one email. They also use an app that allows teachers and staff to communicate directly with parents through messages and photos throughout the day. We receive updates about how our daughter is doing, photos from activities, and notifications about any accidents or important moments. The staff has been wonderful. Everyone is warm, friendly, and genuinely great with children. There's usually an admin greeting families at the front, which creates a very welcoming environment. The director has also been fantastic -- she's clearly knowledgeable about child development, very approachable, and genuinely cares about both the children and the parents. At one point, we requested an office hour with the director to discuss a few specific concerns and requests regarding our daughter. She was incredibly attentive and thoughtful, and we were impressed by how quickly the staff implemented changes afterward. For example, our daughter can be a picky eater, so we asked for updates about how much she was eating so we could better adjust meals at home. Since both my partner and I work from home and often have back-to-back meetings, we also asked if our daughter could be prepared for pickup near the front around pickup time to make transitions easier. We never expected perfection -- we understand they're caring for 20+ children -- but the staff honestly did a great job accommodating us most of the time, and that level of care meant a lot. Another thing we appreciate is that the school never feels overcrowded. The teacher-to-child ratio feels very reasonable (I believe around 1:6 or 1:8), so it genuinely feels like the children receive individual attention. There are around 23 children total, which feels like a healthy size for the amount of staff they have. Most importantly, our daughter truly enjoys going to school every day, and that's the biggest endorsement we can give as parents. I highly recommend scheduling a tour and meeting the staff if you're considering preschools in the area. We were lucky enough to experience the school pre-pandemic and get involved in their Parent Club where we could give feedback and organize family events for the kids. The Parent Club has since disbanded due to covid safety protocols, but hopefully it'll return in the future as I really enjoyed the community aspect of it. Speaking of the pandemic, the director, Kelsi, and her assistant, Sarah, have been so wonderful with handling the roller coaster that is covid. Partitions were put in place to separate the classes, and all staff are vaccinated/masked. I've never felt unsafe or worried about the spread of covid here, even in 2020 when there were so many unknowns. The teachers are all very friendly, caring, and patient. When it comes to curriculum, my kids learned their ABCs and counting, how to be respectful of others, nature, art. My kids always left the school day with a smile on their faces, which is so important to me. We miss you already, Kids Kollege!

The stidents were there and were getting distracted since I was there with not only my 3 year old but also my 5 month old. Some of the children were coming up to the stroller and looking at the baby and I can see in the teachers faces that they were irritated. I even tried to apologize for the distraction but they pretty much ignored me with just a frustrated look on their faces. Basically I left feeling like we were not welcomed in the first place. When I called Isabel to express my feeling and said I would like to come back so we can talk and have more questions answered she basically was fine with us coming back but never really addressed the way I felt when we first came- nothing - all she said was that her teachers are very good. I told her I was not doubting that her teachers were good, I was simply telling her how I felt when we first came on a tour. Basically, I'm sure the school is good, but I felt the cold shoulder from the teachers which didn't rub me the right way. I didn't feel welcomed at all.

We've had such a positive experience with My Little Learning Tree and truly can't recommend it enough. Both of our children have attended, and from the very beginning, we felt confident that they were in a nurturing, safe, and thoughtfully structured environment. The teachers are incredibly warm, attentive, and deeply invested in the kids' development -- not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well. They really take the time to get to know each child and support their unique needs and personalities. It's clear that the staff love what they do, and that energy is reflected in the way the children thrive there. The curriculum strikes a great balance between play-based learning and structured activities, encouraging curiosity, independence, and kindness. This is an excellent preschool! Our son has been attending for the last year and he simply loves it. He has really thrived under their guidance and love. Their approach is creative play and developmentally focused. They did a great job of helping my son acclimate to preschool and thrive. He is so proud of all of his artwork and he has simply bloomed while being there. They do a great job with tricky transitions, setting limits in a firm but loving way, and have very little turnover (both for children and staff). Very safe and fun atmosphere (both physically and emotionally which is so important at this age). They do field trips, and the kids even play baseball on a weekly basis. Their hours are flexible (as early as 7:30a to as late as 6p) and the rate is terrific. I really could not be more pleased! read more

Both my kids attended MLLT, with my son having graduated 6 years ago and my daughter just this summer. We are deeply grateful to MLLT for the their preparation for elementary school, academically and socio-emotionally. With both kids, we saw their transformation and how their confidence was lifted because of the safe & trusting environment that MLLT teachers and Corinna (school owner) have built. There is a genuine joy for learning and resiliency. However, I was saddened and disappointed with the interim Directors response once she heard that my son may have a possible disability. Unfortunately, I discovered this after paying the application fee. While taking a tour of school I asked if outside therapists are allowed on some days for a couple of days. She then proceeded to say that they previously had a child that would come in with a therapist and supervisor which they found to be disruptive. She then added that my son would need more attention and would take time away from the other students and would not be a good fit for their school. She suggested we instead check with the school District to see what they could offer. I explained he only had 1 therapist for a couple of hours, but dismissed it. I didn't have a problem with not allowing the therapist, as I understand that some schools are particular about allowing others into their premises, and that's okay. No problem. I understand. What I did have an issue with is that she made an assumption of my sons behavior based on a prior experience she had with another student and that I mentioned his therapist. She has never met my son, nor does she know his behavior, his condition or the exact purpose of the therapist. She assumed he would take away the teachers time based on an experience she had with another child without ever even meeting my son. It felt as if the issue was more about my son, rather than the therapist coming in. No two children are alike, and having a therapist does not always mean one will require more attention than one who doesn't. It's unfortunate these stereotypes still occur in SF.

I was very excited to have my son start, even though he had been with us during the pandemic and I was nervous about Covid and transitioning him to care outside the home. They have made sure to take every precaution and I feel confident that my child is as safe as can be. Also, seeing how happy and how much my son was enjoying the interactions with his teachers and new friends made me realize it was the right decision for his social emotional development. I do appreciate that they learn Cantonese and Mandarin as both are so prevalent in SF. There wasn't any confusion for my son as far as learning 2 languages simultaneously. Communication was my top priority, second to my son's happiness and well being. And the clear, prompt communication has been more than I could expect, especially since my son has food allergies. They were amazing with him when he was going through a "normal" behavioral phase. All the teachers, especially Miss Sandy showed so much patience with him and even assured me with her knowledge in child development that he was going to be ok. I love that I can chat with them at drop off and pick up everyday. They also use an app where you can message anytime and see photos from the days' activities. And speaking of activities, WOW! They are exploring and creating with so many different materials. I'm impressed with all their projects. The large private play area is great too. They are doing more outside time and even some of the crafts outside, plus they go out after nap too. They also take walks out to explore the parks. So if you're thinking about preschool, look no further! Just Kids is just amazing!

It's hard to imagine a better place that we could have sent her. She fell in love with the teachers immediately, and it was clear that the teachers cared deeply about her too. Her communication skills exploded in the months following her start at Just Kids. She also never came home with any "bad habits," but she came home with plenty of projects from her activities at school! Communication from the staff was always top-notch (including sending photos to see her activities and progress), especially since you miss the little one during the day and want to see what they're up to. Safety and COVID protocols made us feel really good as well. The teacher:student ratio also made us feel like she was going to get a lot of support while also not being overcrowded. Just Kids has been such a special place and we would recommend it in a heartbeat!

We visited a few public and private schools with a strong Mandarin immersion program. What stood out with Terra over time was how balanced the learning feels, both inside and outside the classroom. Academically, he has grown steadily in both English and Mandarin, and at the same time we have seen real growth in confidence, independence, and how he works through challenges. The outdoor program has been especially meaningful for him. Spending time learning outside each week has clearly shaped how he approaches learning. He often comes home talking about things he created or discovered in nature, and those experiences seem to stick with him in a way that traditional classroom lessons sometimes do not. The small class size has made a big difference for our family. His teachers really know him as an individual, including both his strengths and the areas where he needs more guidance. That level of attention has helped him grow academically and emotionally without feeling pressured to fit into a single mold. We have also appreciated how involved the parent community is. It feels collaborative, and communication between families and the school is very open. When I went through the Kindergarten application process, I toured a ton of schools across public, charter, and private (independent and parochial). I am the type of person that likes to dig deep and understand all of my options. The reason I ended up choosing to attend Terra is because: - Outdoor Nature: We came from a nature based pre-school and I saw the benefits of being able to regularly play outside. It was tough to find an elementary school that offered dedicated time in nature. Elementary grades at Terra have Earth Ed one full day per week, and pre-school has two full days. Earth Ed is led by Dylan, who has decades of experience and holds a PHD in environmental studies. He's great with the students. They love him. - Strong Academics: I asked every school I toured about differentiated learning, and they all gave an answer. However, Terra was the only one where the logistics made sense to me. They have banded classes for subjects like math and reading, which means that for those subjects, my son is grouped with students that are at the same level as him, not based on his grade or age. For example, he is in Kindergarten but he is in the 1st grade math group. - Quality of Teachers: The teachers go through a rigorous process before they are hired full time. They are highly qualified. They are also loving and caring. My son is excited to run to his teacher every morning (which was not the case at his prior schools). - Language Immersion: We are in the mandarin immersion program, but my son is naturally exposed to some Spanish as well and has enjoyed picking up some of the language. It's unique to be able to give him a multilingual experience in a fun, low pressure way. - Parent Community: There are multiple opportunities to connect with each other including coffee meetups, PTA meetings, mom's/dad's nights, and WhatsApp groups. I have met many awesome families at Terra that I now call my friends. My son is thriving here. I have seen noticeable improvements in his academic progress, his self confidence and his ability to advocate for himself.

My son constantly asks if he can go to school and see his friends because he has so much fun! We would have stayed with our current daycare, but the Pre-K school is closer to our house. Reasons why we LOVE them: -Their hours are from 8-6. -They are significantly cheaper than most daycares and even cheaper than public Pre-K! -They include nutritious meals for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. I have asked for the recipe for many of their dishes because both of my kids love them. -All the people there are so caring and my son actually reaches out for them when we drop him off. They don't even do that for their grandparents... -Wonderful communication.
