They even had an entire section of pots and planters, some locally made by artists. My favorite thing was the little skull planters with a cactus in it that looked like a brain. They even called it "The Brain." I also found a very pretty peperomia, which I wish I could have taken home. It was nicely variegated and I haven't seen those colors before. We parked across the street and down the road but it wasn't a far walk at all. We had come from a small cafe.

Newtown Garden Market has everything you need to make your flower or vegetable garden thrive, or make your indoor herb garden ever-so fruitful. There are countless varieties of plantables, yes. But there are also plenty of things to fill your outdoor space with artsiness and style. I couldn't help but marvel over the tin garden sculptures of animals. Fashioned out of recycled materials (or so it seemed), these creatures are creative and somewhat abstract. Position one or two next to a solar powered gurgling bird bath and you might never want to leave your garden again. For me, I was drawn to the succulents. Spiky, cute, and virtually un-kill-able, these little bad boys are my favourite. Maybe it's because they also make me feel like a bit of a badass. It's not true, but a girl can dream, can't she?

They've dotted the whole place with fountains so there's always the relaxing sound of flowing water in the background. The staff members are quite knowledgable and are happy to share tips. I think most of them are passionate green-fingers too! Make sure you sign up for membership. You'll get some points and special discounts. It's only five bucks and you get equivalent amounts in vouchers anyway.

All power to them all, and their homegrown tomatoes and their pansy window flower pots. This place reminds me that people LOVE their plants, and are happy to spend a weekend hunting for a car space in a hot parking lot, just to get themselves some green, and some big bags of over-fed soil. Flower Power is big, crowded and hard to wheel a trolley around in. But it does its best to offer EVERYTHING, and in that respect it does a more convincing job than Bunnings (at least in terms of plants, not so much in terms of pots and gardening accessories). My gripe is that it's not cheap at all, even though going to a big warehouse makes you feel like you're getting a good deal - but the price tags tell another story. The health of the plants is generally quite good, though. The staff seem quite knowledgable but generally you will be left alone to wander (for hours, if you like), in this sprawling place.

I tend to have a Medusa-type effect on the humble plant, striking them dead with a glance and without even trying, I swear. My mother tells me gardening comes with age. I'd better get a move on. My experience at this casual garden centre has been in buying plants for other people, and the staff has proved friendly and knowledgable. The space is clear and well sign-posted, enough for me not to mistake a native for an indoor plant, Diggers heirloom tomatoes for edging. I think I should spend more time here, perhaps something'll rub off.

I've come here over the years for all my house paints, curtains, lawn mowers, garden tools and nursery pots and plants. If ever I have needed any help with DIY plans, the friendly staff always are able to give me tips and advice on how to do a great job. I especially love the garden section. The manager in charge is fabulous because if you ask nicely, plants that look a bit tattered can be marked down to $5 or $10. Go home and care for them and in no time the plants are thriving.

A great range of DIY renovation ideas, and the cheapest pots of Dulux paint to paint my domain with. Came in to buy a screwdriver, very helpful. Friendly staff which is unusual for a chain store. The self service checkouts are also fast. The cafe is rather small, and is situated right near the nursery area. Brought a Bryon Bay cookie for only $2.60 here, uber cheap! Highly recommended.
