During the summer months there is not a single seat available outside and, I have often seen people waiting for a table. So when fellow Yelper Abhi suggested we try some place new for dinner, the decision was simple, here ;-)) The interior here is quite big and L shaped with about 20 tables or so and, it was almost full for the evening when, we arrived without a reservation. We were seated promptly and the service was nice and friendly. Our waitress was nice but, she did do the bare minimum and, made no attempt at any conversation. She was prompt with the orders and also clearing up the tables. We ordered the house Greek red wine which was ok after a few sips but, it did start off like rocket fuel ;-)) Never really been a fan of Greek wine and, this one was no exception. We shared a Kalypso meat plate for two which came with lamb, beef and pork all grilled. It also came with a side of tzaziki. The meat was relatively dry and, I loved the gyros meat and the meat ball. The rest was kind of ok. The dish could do with a bit of sauce or something to moisten the meat. It was a big portion and we could not finish it all. For dessert I had Pannacotta which was quite ok and, with the side of ice cream it was quite nice. Service here is 4 star, Food is 3.5 star, ambience is 4 star and, the host of this place is really nice guy who offered us a shot of uzzo on the house and, that was a nice gesture. He also checked up on us regularly, to see if everything was ok. I would come back here again and try some of the other dishes on the menu. Not bad at all for a Greek restaurant in the neighbourhood.

Parking was super easy...and Sophi's son spoke enough English to help me navigate the menu (which you can also translate in advance, if needed, using google translate.) Sophi and her son were extremely hospitable...offering me an appertif (on the house) and some of the best bread I have ever eaten. Octopus is hard to find, and good octopus is even harder to find in the US...well, the dish I ordered was so large, it could have fed two people...and yet, so delicious, I ate the entire plate. Even though I was dining alone, it felt like I was in someone's home...I felt so comfortable. Everyone was so friendly. I highly recommend Anna's Taverne to all and any who find themselves traveling through the Munich area.

It's open for lunch most days and less busy during the day. The menu is fairly varied with a big selection of cold and hot starters, fish, gyros and other greek specialities. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. They have a selection of drinks including greek beer and, some greek wine. We shared a cold Mezze plate and it had a nice selection of dips, calamari salad and beans. All of these tasted quite nice and I really liked it. For main I had grilled calamari which was delicious although, it had a bit too much olive oil used. The flavour was great and I enjoyed the tender calamari. I also tasted the octopus and it was also amazingly tender. I would happily come back here again and try a few more dishes. Food is good and reasonably priced and the service is very friendly.

We went again tonight, 10/22/18, for our daughter's birthday dinner. Service and food were at the quality expected but the bill came with a surprise. It stated in print; "SERVICE NOT INCLUDED," a statement that is nowhere to be found on the menu. It is our custom to leave a small amount of cash as "Trinkgelt" but service is an entirely different matter. We put down 5% at which point the waiter pointed out that it was inadequate because service was not included. We spoke to the tall "manager" up front, pointing out that service is always included in German restaurant prices. He stated that that was the case in "German" restaurants but not in any "Greek" restaurant in Munich that he knew of -- a clear lie. We have recommended this place to many of our Munich friends in the past, but needless to say, we will never return to Thalassa and will inform our friends of our experience. Our neighbor, a policewoman by profession, shares our suspicion that speaking English targeted us for discriminatory (and perhaps illegal) treatment. The gentleman was so sweet, noticing that we were tourists, and recommended several things. We decided to go with a classic and one 'shot in the dark.' She order the pork schnitzel! Very tasty. I however turned to the specialties, closed my eyes and picked a lamb based dish. Food came out surprisingly fast. Made us skeptical at first. First bite, incredible! The schnitzel was good as expected; however the lamb dish was out of this world!! So amazing!
