Dotted around the villages on the coast of Fife are little gift shops. And in Aberdour, Antiques…read moreand Gifts certainly seemed to be one of the more popular ones. The shop did not stock your normal tacky tourist rubbish but instead stocked a mixture of antiques with hand crafted gifts. In terms of antiques the shop seemed to display a lot of china, including old tea pots and also a range of old worn out cuddly bears. Additionally the shop also offered framed pictures and prints. It all seemed very nice but it was not my cup of tea to be honest. In terms of gifts there were mostly textiles. The shop seemed busy but as I browsed through, I realised that this shop probably did get a lot of people in who viewed their goods but were unlikely to buy anything. And in a time of recession these shops probably will struggle. None the less, a good shop to go to if you want to pick up an antique for a gift!

Like the post office across the road, the local pharmacy in Aberdour is very much old fashioned…read more Actually, before I walked in I though I would enter an old Victorian pharmacy with horrible tasting drugs and news that penicillin had recently been discovered! I was surprisingly quite a bit off in my estimation. The pharmacy did stock all the latest medicines and health products. However, at the same time this pharmacy also stocked framed pictures of local beauty spots, which were done I believe by local artists! It is certainly not what you would expect from your normal modern pharmacy anyway. The place did have a quirkiness about it and certainly seemed to have its own stubborn character which did not like to be modernised in a lot of ways. Very much like the village I suppose.

Contrary to the previous outdated review the recently refurbished Aberdour Pharmacy is a refreshing…read moresite on the village high street. Having been brought right up to date it retains a real sense of the bustling village with a warm welcome and knowledgeable staff. In addition to a well stocked pharmacy there are lots of gifts available making it a real gem.
