My experience with getting out into the countryside really anywhere (England, Japan, the U.S.) is the locals aren't totally sure what to do with you and can typically be a little standoffish. Here they were completely warm and welcoming with perfect english which I found surprising. The food was so crazy good...complimented the beer really well. Not sure if the beer was special there, but it was special to me. The restaurant at the Burghotel Baren was the high point to a really great weekend exploring this area.
