The hu tieu here is fire but what was the surprise winner for me was the congee. I got the combination and it was LOADED with flavor. I was surprised that combination wasn't brisket but liver/other organ meat, so keep that in mind if that's not your thing! The seafood congee is a good middle ground of a lot of flavor but also variety. I also tried their hand pulled noodles which are thick and slightly spicy with bokchoy. We have been coming to NK Noodles instead of the noodle spot on Aborn and honestly it was an easy switch. Same people, same recipe, same quality but the big win is they take credit cards now. Delicious! Taste just like Nam Vang but way more generous portions! Highly recommend the hu tieu but the dry version that comes with the soup on the side. This version comes with a yummy soy sauce on the noodles. I love the chewy texture of the dry version. Their meatball is super tender, and their Chinese donut is so incredibly fresh and not stale!!! I like that you can get the classic nam vang style noodle but have it be more economical in portion. The space inside is clean and the staff is nice! You don't see this style of noodles too much (primarily Nam Vang in SJ), so we were excited to give it a shot. We came on a weekend and there was no wait. Parking in the century city mall is always pretty tough though! We got the Mi Nam Vang Dac Biet, which is the original Cambodian noodle with all the toppings (shrimp, pork, liver, etc.). You can choose between dry and soup. If you choose dry, you get a side soup which comes with a huge beef rib! The noodles itself were well cooked and the toppings were extensive. Wish there was slightly more sauce though! We also tried their stir fried rice noodle dish, Banh Lot Xao Nam Vang. It's basically a Cambodian style beef chow fun and it was really delicious! The flavor was interesting too, it was spicy a little above my spice tolerance but bearable and a little bit sour. Not sure what that flavor was. But it was stir fried with tofu, bok choy, 2 different meats all for $16.50. I give it a (4/5). My husband ordered the Hu Tieu Nam Vang Dac Biet (Original) for $15.60. The portion size was good and he really enjoyed his bowl and literally drank the whole soup bowl. We also got a side of Chinese donuts $3.50. They came out hot so we knew they were freshly made. My favorite hu tieu nam vang in SJ! I always get the brothless special and brothless spicy/sour version. This spot takes first place for me because the flavor profile is always just right, bowls come with plenty of meat (and in the broth, which some spots don't do), and the pickled chili peppers take it to the next level. This is probably my new spot for Nam Vang! Clean, doesn't get overly busy, and the food is delicious and they tend to you right away! I opted for #2 to see how spicy it really was. It took over the old Com Tom Thien Huong spot. They had a sign saying, "From the 30 YEARS Original Owner of Hu Tieu." My husband asked the cashier lady about the signage and she said that this location was opened by one of the son's of the lady owner of Nam Vang off Alvin Ave. We came on a Wednesday around 10:45am and there was one table of people eating. The restaurant was clean, bright and surprisingly spacious. The lady came over and took our order just as soon as we sat down but we knew what we wanted already. We ordered.. HU TIEU NAM VANG DAC BIET $14.95 -special cambodian rice noodle. We had it dry style. It came with shrimp, squid, ground pork, dried shrimp, sliced pork, liver and heart. Topped with fried garlic and cilantro. The meat and seafood tasted fresh. The noodles were chewy and they premix the sauce into the noodles for you. It was too bland for us so we asked for more of their sauce. Tasting the sauce by itself, it tasted like Maggi seasoning soy sauce. I also added lime juice, chili sate oil and their pickled green chilies. I still was too light and bland for our tastes. The small pork bone soup on the side came out piping hot, which was good. 3/5* They also offer a spicy and sour version of their hu tieu nam vang, which I thought was interesting. DAO CHAU QUAY $3.50 -chinese donut. YUM. It was warm and crispy with a chewy center. A lot of places tend to overheat or they're stale or the donut has a burnt oil taste but N&K is almost perfect. It was just really small for the price: 4.5/5* XIU MAI $3.50 -pork meatball. Good, soft and tasty. 4/5* They also offer mi (egg noodles), com dia (rice plates), com chien (fried rice), hu tieu xao (chow fun), mi xao (chow mein) and even a hand pull noodle dish. Service was really friendly. When the waiter came out to bring us our food he ask, "did you want anything extra? Uncle will get it for you." My BD has been throwing out this noodle shop numerous times and for some unknown reason, I always ended up declining. With our last visit to Grand Century, I caved decided on N & K Noodle for dinner since my little one was feeling soup. The entire restaurant was bare, not a single patron. Upon entering you are hit with a strong smell of cleaning products- points for the obvious cleanliness but minus some because the smell was too strong IMO. Menus were brought out and after reviewing things, we went with: -HU TIEU NAM VANG DAC BIET [special Cambodian rice noodle] -HU TIEU DO BIEN, requested for hu tieu tuoi [seafood rice noodle soup, request made for fresh rice noodles] -DAU CHAO QUAY [chinese donuts] The food was presented nicely. At first glance, the seafood noodle soup was an immediate let down because "seafood" primarily consisted of imitation crab. A few shrimp and scarcely slices of squid was also found in the bowl. The noodles portion was stingy but it didn't really matter because the noodles broke apart abnormally easy. Picking them up with chopsticks was extremely hard and I'm not even going to go into the struggles I endured just to get a noodle pic for Yelp!! The Cambodian special noodles looked a lot more promising. The traditional dark soy found in this dish was evenly distributed and the sauce wasn't skimpy like other places. This is where the positives kind of end... despite the noodles looking very coated and sauced up, the flavoring was extremely bland. All that sauce and I literally got NOTHING. As a final attempt to flavor things up I quickly turned to the hoisin sauce and the pickled green peppers. 2 stars and I'm so disappointed to have to give this rating. I came here in a Wednesday afternoon and it was pretty empty. There were only 3 other tables being served when I ate here. The restaurant is very clean and has some natural lighting from a big window. I noticed that the chairs are even and the tables are shimmed to prevent rocking. I ordered a Heiu Teiu Nam Van and my mom got a Cambodian Noodle Soup. We also got chinese donuts and hot tea. Unlike a lot of other noodle shops, the hot tea was not complimentary. It was 25¢ but was loose leaf tea so it was a bit better than a tea bag. My mom ordered her noodles with soup on the side, but there wasn't that much soup. My noodles where thick and oily. The dish is slightly sour. The meat is tender and plentiful. This dish also came with bok choy and bean sprouts. I like the meat to vegetable ratio. Some of the bok choy pieces are pretty thick and harder to eat. All of the bean sprouts are tucked away underneath the noodles. Food was okay, the flavor wasn't really there. For the same price, you can get way nam vang noodles else where. I have had better nam vang noodles. The thai tea was super disappointing. The thai tea was not fresh, and the place uses one of those pre made canned thai tea. It didnt taste anything like thai tea. On top of that, the guy was being stingy and didnt even fill the cup! My table was the only one eating in the whole restaurant, and now i understand why. Imagine having a grand opening and the owner was being stingy and cant even fill up the cup. How sad. I wont be returning to this place. Definitely way better options and service else where in san jose. read more
