I started this process because a close friend of mine went through this program and she strongly recommended it with all of its benefits but she also strongly recommended counselor Olivia Ruiz, she mentioned she was very good but also mentioned she was very much to the point, she gets things done and that is exactly what I needed, someone to hold me accountable for everything I would be responsible for as a NACA member to make it as smooth and as short a process as possible. The reviews I had seen and heard about when it came to the NACA experience were not very good and so I was a little skeptical, but I trusted my friend's judgment and started the NACA process despite my apprehensive feeling about it. She was right, the counselor makes all the difference, they truly enhance your experience as has been done by my counselor Olivia Ruiz. It's like my counselor says, ask yourself what is the reason why you are doing this? Who is this all for? This was enlightening to me because she is right, while it's a lengthy route it does not have to be a bad one-I have learned a ton since I started this process about my budgeting and about how I handle my finances all together! There is a lot of documentation that is required of you but if you get organized and stay on top of it you don't have to do much other than clear conditions when a new one is posted and continue updating your NACA portal. My NACA counselor strongly suggested keeping a virtual and paper NACA folder in the event she were to ask me for any documentation more than once. I strongly suggest that you also continue updating your portal as you go, especially if you are actively in the process trying to get qualified or in housing search trying to land a contract. That will make things easier especially when it comes to credit access, which is the second part to the NACA process. All of this is explained to you in the Homebuyers Workshop and at the first intake session with your counselor. I am very grateful to my friend for recommending this program and my counselor to me, they are a non-for-profit organization, so you really don't see them on TV/billboard ads or hear about them on the radio. All of this is by word of mouth based on your NACA experience. It really is a great program that has been around for over three decades and they have tons of benefits aside from the counseling aspect. We are in the process of purchasing our second home (moved out of state and sold the first home) through the NACA program. From our experience, a successful process depends heavily on (1) the home buyer being organized, having excellent documentation (as things sometimes get 'lost' in their system), and taking the initiative when it comes to your home buying process, (2) the counselor that you are assigned and (3) using a NACA realtor. Most recently, we were assigned three counselor over 12 months - and we are unsure why they kept changing. But we ended up with Olivia Ruiz from the Chicago office and she is AMAZING. Olivia has been consistently engaging, setting up regular meetings to check our progress. She is responsive to our (many) questions, taking the time to walk through information in detail when needed. Olivia is thorough, supportive and definitely looking out for our interest. She reaches out to us whenever she has questions for us. She contact her supervisors whenever she needs clarity on other issues. I believe that during the pandemic, NACA's process changed and they allow you to work with an assigned counselor but they also have a number that you can call when you're unable to reach your counselor. We have not needed to use this, but it's available. We highly recommend NACA. Be prepared for a lengthy process but understand that no other home buying program offers the benefits that NACA offers. read more

I was extremely skeptical when I started my NACA process because of the reviews I had seen on yelp, google and Facebook. I have to admit this was very discouraging but there were also other reviews that spoke wonders about the program and the counselors, one in particular about Olivia Ruiz that caught my attention. I decided to take a leap of faith and sign up for the workshop and was shocked at how informative it was and then quickly scheduled my first intake with Olivia. I knew I would not be ready now but needed counseling to eventually get there. I appreciated Olivia's suggestions and advice when it came to my budgeting and my debts, I felt this was a very important part of the intake and one I was seeking to help organize myself and develop a plan, a goal. My counselor went into budgeting thoroughly as well as illustrated what I could potentially afford if I worked to reduce some of my debts. Right away I saw a real possibility for me of becoming a homeowner. She explained to me she strived to maintain good communication with all of her members as well as full transparency; I felt safe and no longer as skeptical as I had been when I first made the decision to sign up for the workshop. I learned about NACA through a dear friend. I attempted to buy a home the traditional way but the interest rate they offered my was extremely high not to mention the thousands of dollars they were requiring me to come up with for a down payment paying for this paying for that. I began my journey going through the NACA process in July 2024. My process with NACA is going great. The staff at NACA are very polite and helpful. NACA is a great organization to go through when looking for a house. They offer below market interest rates and 0 closing costs and so much more. I have learned how to budget my monies and save. I am just 3 months into NACA process and will be completed before mid October 2024. When you are ready to buy a home you should attend NACA'S workshop. When my process began I began with the workshop and the activist showed so much care and compassion for home owners and home buyers. The activist fought and he won!! I heard about NACA in 2018 from a friend that did the process. I honestly didn't believe a word he said sounded to good to be true and wondered where was the scam... I was left with the curiosity and attended my first seminar to learn more about it and I loved how they made this work for the people! Very knowledgeable staff and very prof. I have been going to various events where people talked about their experiences with the company, and the process has gotten better since then. I have been following this organization for over 10 years, and I have had a great experience so far. I'm in the process of purchasing a home. The main reason I decided to go through this process is because of the lower interest rate and incentives the company offers you. You will receive a lot of information and programs during your first homebuying class. After you complete the course, you will be assigned a consulor who will guide you through the process. NACA is different from other companies as it doesn't just look at credit, it also takes into account your specific needs. They have a variety of tools that help you get the most out of your credit, and they always give you an action plan to follow. When my husband and I first attended the zoom that went over what NACA is we thought it was too good to be true but decided to try it out anyway. When we were first told when our meeting would be with the counselor, we thought that we wouldn't have the time to go through the process because we are on a time crunch. I called and explained that to them and they immediately resolved the issue and gave us an earlier appointment time. The initial meeting with our counselor was a little overwhelming as there was a lot of things that we had to do. Although it was a lot, the counselor was very helpful with walking us through the steps during our NACA process. She was always willing to answer every question that I had, as well as explain terms to me that I did not understand. Getting the forms turned in and having them done correctly from bank statements to LOES are very tedious but it's worth getting it done in the end as they do truly help you become a home owner. read more

This is my first time buying a home and I heard about Naca from friends who have done the program for themselves in previous years. It's going to be a year since the journey has began, and I have nothing to complain about it. I feel like I've learn more in this program than just a regular first buyers workshop. I have just started the NACA process and let me tell you it is THOROUGH! They do all that they can to make sure that you are set up not only to purchase the home, but to be as financially stable and skilled in being able to handle the big financial responsibilities that come with owning a home. It is tedious, it can be slow and they ask a lot of you, but the process is slow in the beginning to ensure you can have your home for a good long time. So stick with it. Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America, Also known as NACA. Never go to this organization. They are rude to their members and act like corrupt rulers instead of compassionate helpers. They are supposed to help people secure a mortgage, but what people go through with them is heartbreaking. Whoever regulates them is not looking at the length of time, the strange brazen manner in which they govern government money and the stress that they take their members through like closings that almost happen or that take a year or more. Not to mention the hundreds of times that they don't call you back and expect you to go into emergency when they call. Regulators please look into NACA, something is not right. It's great for someone who has a stable job, can document and navigate through documentations and paperworks without much guidance.
