What follows I wrote on the corporate sponsored care quality review and figured I'd share here. Btw, they've a fun looking play place there! I have never used it but see the younger kids love it! Was sent here by VA Community Care with low expectations. Found they are very accommodating, friendly, efficient, nearly painless and here is why I say so. 1. For my first appointment I arrived on time but a day late because I'd gotten confused somehow. They fit me in for my initial inspection and cleaning. 2. I've never waited to be seen more than twenty minutes from my appt time when I showed up on time. 3. Each person there seems interested in my personal care and well-being although I'm sure I'm not that interesting. 4. Although I feel the Q-tip applicator when she applies the surface anesthesia I never feel the needle jab a few minutes later. 5. They file whatever paperwork is required with the VA and apply for future care approval. 6. All I've had to do was show up, follow their instructions and enjoy improving dental health!

My short relationship with Tippit Dental Group in Livingston, TX, was not due to the quality of the…read moredentistry I received there, but due to the horrible handling of my records, scheduling, and insurance matters, resulting in my having to pay the full amount for the care because the claim was denied - after the work was done. My wife's and my previous dentist had advised us that she was no longer accepting Delta Dental, so we researched other options. We located Tippit in Livingston, and determined that they accepted our insurance, so I called them to find out what they might need for us to establish a relationship. I offered to help get my records from my previous dentist, but they said they had a process that gets it done. As it happened, I actually needed dental work soon after my initial call with Tippit, so I made an appointment, presumably for a cavity to be filled. I was experiencing dental pain. At Tippit Dental's request, I submitted all my "new patient" information via text. When I arrived for my appointment, I again checked to make sure they had my dental records because they wanted to take a new set of x-rays that would duplicate others from a couple of months earlier, and insurance wouldn't pay for more so soon afterwards. I concluded that they hadn't gotten my records or they would have had some imagery, but they were never clear on whether they had actually received anything from my previous dentist. And that was the case throughout my contact with Tippit. No one ever confirmed that they ever saw any of my dental records. Ever. When I came back for the dental work, Dr. Johnson did a great job, preparing my #4 tooth (as it turned out) for a new crown. At the end of the appointment, one of the staff approached me and asked when I'd had the old crown put on #4. I said I had no idea, told her so, and I asked why she'd asked. She said that the insurance might not pay if I'd had the previous one for less than 5 years. Since I've never had access to my dental records, and I've had numerous crowns installed over the decades, I told her I had no way of knowing the ages of any of them. Surely my dental records would have provided the answer? Again, I felt like Tippit had yet to get my records, or they would have known. Asking me after the work had started seemed odd. When I came back in for the new crown a week later, the procedure went smoothly, and I felt like Dr. Johnson had done a wonderful job of it. And then, when I went to the front desk to check out (all the work was finished!), I was advised that the insurance claim was denied because the replaced crown was less than five years old! I called Delta Dental and was informed that if the dentist had submitted a preauthorization - normal procedure - before the work was begun, the office would have known that that crown wasn't covered. When I complained to the young lady who was checking me out, she acknowledged that "mistakes may have been made" and she'd have her office manager call me the next day. No one called for a few days, so I called back, and was told she was in a meeting, but would call me back. The woman who called me back is the manager in the Tippit office in Cypress, and had no first-hand knowledge of my situation or access to whatever they had in Livingston. She simply did a lot of tongue clicking, and advised that insurance companies lie to patients, and that everything that happened was unfortunate - like it was just a bad roll of the dice - and that everything the dental office did was within acceptable "standard of care." Again, the insurance company told me that if the dental office had sent a preauthorization request before the work, they'd have been informed of the denial, and I could have been advised before incurring 100% of the charge. I felt I'd done everything reasonable, intentional, and deliberate to establish myself with Tippit Dental - to supply whatever they needed to provide me with insurance-covered dentistry. I followed up every time I talked to anyone there or on the phone. Had they performed due diligence and handled my case with care and competence, I'd still be a happy patient there. I have no less than four more crowns left to replace, but Tippit Dental won't be involved with that work. I'll find a new dentist. I've never had any issues with Delta Dental. I've been with them for 30 years or so, and have had numerous crowns installed, but I'd never had an issue with coverage. I'd never known there was a minimum time before a crown could be replaced. It had never come up. I just thought it was a 50-50 deal for payment. I think someone at Tippit Dental should have taken the time to properly figure out what was what and let me know before the drilling began.
