Got this vintage Effy necklace at Naghi's. They were really kind with me as I tried on many of their pieces before settling on this necklace. They even helped me with changing out the chain since it was too short for me. Definitely recommend going to see them if I can come back to New Orleans again.

A nice shop just down the street from our hotel. We stepped in on our morning walk and found two great guys running the place. Just good ole' New Orleans guys who were great to talk to about the items in the shop and the history of the city. We bought a beautiful pair of earrings for my wife's birthday. He even gave her a birthday discount.

One of the great things about French Quarter Fest is that you end up wandering into places you might not have stumbled into otherwise. Enter Naghi's. What drew me in were the life size sculptures, which I assume are meant for a gorgeous mansion or yard. These things are beautiful and one day, when I have my dream home, I will own many of them. They also had a golden Buddha statue just hanging out on the counter that cost $3000 and a huge portrait of Prince. Yeah, this shop was randomly awesome. They had a display case full of gorgeous jewelry and the man who was working was very nice and greeted me and told me to let him know if I need any help. I'm not sure if I will ever have the financial means, but when the day comes and I have a mid-life crisis, I'm skipping the sports car and getting that Buddha.

The store smells really nice, and the person behind the register was really friendly. They interesting decorations, jewelry, and art. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again, but it's worth checking out if you happen to be in the area.

We stayed and talked with him for probably 45 minutes about everything from his inventory, the city's history, his love of history and books and he even shared his family's time during Katrina.

This last visit, it just happened to be my Birthday & soon as we walked in, Hubby zeroed in on a sparkly blue & green (my favorite colors) tiny French clutch in the shape of a FISH! Now my hubby knows I LOVE everything Aquatic !!! He went straight to the little fish in the glass case, the sales lady from the shop was in hot pursuit, didn't waste any time getting it out for him! :)) The saleslady was very sweet & told us she just got them in. There were some very pretty ones. A silver bunny, a red/black lady bug etc., my zodiac sign is Pisces so it was undeniably a perfect match for moi :)) Elegant, French cocktail clutch, hand made. Exquisite!!! Like everything in this store!!! Beautiful chandeliers, 18th century wardrobes, beautiful French China etc., A antique lovers dream shop. Hubby knows what I like! Score indeed! Him of course & the little fishy :)) I didn't catch the sales lady's name but I want to say thank you for all the information on the wardrobe I am interested in... BTW, You can purchase anything in this store & have it shipped Crate worldwide. "Thank you again for your wonderful "assist" in my lovely Birthday Gift. I absolutely adore it. It's so perfect, completely fabulous." I know I will keep it & enjoy it for many years to come as it is heirloom quality. See you again soon. XOXO Highly recommend.

I envy anyone who can get anything from here, because if I had the wherewithal I would decorate my home with the gorgeous items that are in this store. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with an array of huge, gorgeous twinkling chandeliers that look like they belong in the foyer of someone's dream mansion on St. Charles Avenue. They also have antique furniture and other home goods. My favorite was probably a huge clock with a gold leaf base that very proudly displayed it's retail price of $60,000. Like I said...a girl can dream.

What an incredible find. Whether you're a practitioner, a collector, naturally curious, or simply someone who enjoys the unusual and macabre, this shop has something for everyone. The diversity of items available is impressive. From cards and books to ethically sourced bones, handcrafted artwork, curiosities, and so much more, it's impossible to list everything they offer. Every corner of the shop holds something fascinating. While photos and videos aren't permitted inside, I can say that the space itself is thoughtfully curated and filled with amazing handcrafted pieces created by talented artists and makers. I was fortunate enough to speak with one of the owners, who graciously allowed me to take a single overall photo. I didn't want to spotlight just one artist and risk overlooking the incredible work of others who have poured their hearts and souls into their creations. When we visited, Shelby and Port were working, and they truly made the experience memorable. I was having a rough day after getting overheated, but Shelby patiently answered every question I had with both knowledge and kindness. They even took the time to explain concepts in ways that newcomers and non-practitioners could easily understand. Port was equally wonderful. We spent time swapping stories about oddities we'd encountered and discussing items on our wish lists. They were incredibly knowledgeable, even educating us on regulations regarding which oddities can and cannot legally be shipped in and out of Louisiana. What impressed me most was how welcoming the atmosphere was. I walked in as a customer and left feeling like I had made new friends. I'm currently waiting on my purchases to arrive and honestly feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. If you're skeptical, curious, morbidly inclined, a collector, a practitioner, or simply looking for an unforgettable experience in the Quarter, do yourself a favor and stop by Dark Matter Oddities. Come for the curiosities, stay for the conversations, and be prepared to leave with a story or two of your own.

None of my friends are boring and they all love this shop because it has something for just about anyone that loves art and unique items that you will not find in your typical souvenir shop. All of it comes from actual makers, not a factory (like your typical tourist trap on Decatur). I also shop here for gifts. For myself... and those I love. For Christmas, my husband bought me two tiny paintings, one of my favorite bird, a raven and one of a skull holding up a glass of wine. I cherish them! I have a thing for tiny framed items and these came in elaborate mini frames that look so gorgeous on my mantle. There is a lot packed into this beautifully arranged shop. They have jewelry, taxidermy, bones, sculpture, paintings and so much more. Definitely for all your goth and witchy amici!

If you're looking for that very interesting tchotchke this is your place. They truly have a little bit of everything: from clothing, to vinyl, to electronics, to glassware, to jewelry, onto everything else. Located on Magazine Street, this business is very easy to find. Once inside, you will be overwhelmed by a plethora of antiques and even a number of modern items. Plus, just about everything else you can imagine. It's really an experience to go inside. It's a great place to shop for that gift you need for that special someone or that something you never knew you needed it. In terms of pricing, I feel like they are very reasonable. Whereas some antique stores really push their pricing to the maximum, this is not the case with Magazine Antique Mall. They offered their items at very fair and reasonable prices. Overall, the main reason to go in here is it is just a very fun place to shop. It's an experience onto itself. You never know what you are going to find. And, when you do find that very special item, you're gonna find it for a great price.

But this time around, it was just a bunch of poorly curated junk. The way things were displayed was poor, just unorganized, requiring you to dig around. It feels overwhelming going in here. Previously, I felt like I was on a treasure hunt, but this time around, I was feeling anxiety going through all the stuff. They do have old typewriters and old phones though, at decent price (around $115-175 for typewriters, and $25 for the old phones). I thought those were the coolest items. But honestly, they didn't even have the cute charm I was hoping for. Some of the typewriters did have handles, which was great if you wanted to carry it on your flight back home. But, you couldn't take the lid off...just a bummer. Will forever continue to search for the vintage typewriter and phone.
