DO NOT GET YOUR NAILS DONE HERE!!!!!!! I went in about just over a week ago to get my nails filled, and a few days later noticed my left pinky was irritated, swollen and hurt to touch. Woke up the next day to it being double in size and green. I immediately ran to the clinic who informed me that if I'd waited any longer to come in, the infection could have cost me a piece of my hand. Ladies I am begging you not to spend your money here, I no longer have a nail on that finger as they had to remove my entire natural nail in order to get rid of the infection! Heavy antibiotics for the next month and hoping it's gone by then. The quality of the nails is nice if you get the right tech, but it is not worth their shoddy, if they even at all, sterilization techniques. I have multiple times witnessed the same file etc being used on more than one person without being sterilized. Go anywhere but here, please! I am devastated that they are so careless and unconcerned about the safety and well being of their customers. So disheartening. read more

However, when i started getting my pedicure the ladies (staff memebers) kept talking and it sounded like they were having an issue about technique. They would stop talking and talk again. I relaxed for a while. Also when asked what I do and said my profession is with addictions they were offput. They seemed to judge my occupation at the Drop In Center. Stating that they don't understand addiction, Why would the calgary drop in be located where it is, seemed like an inconvinence to them. The girl that dod my nails said people with addictions are crazy. That really pissed me off because I come from a family of addiction. Ive been coming here for 4 months regularly to see Diana and one day when I booked an appointment she no longer worked there. I ended up seeing someone else and had issues eg they were lumpy and uneven - the nails projected at an upward angle rather than straight which I have never seen before. The biggest issue, I got my nails done on a Friday and by Tuesday 5 had popped clean off my nail in one piece. I don't do manual labor, swim, hand wash dishes or rock climb. I live a fairly un-manual life overall. I usually go 3-4 weeks between fills with zero issues. So I called to get them fixed and was booked in for 6pm. I waited over 45 minutes before I was seen. FYI other people who arrived 20-30 mins after me were seated shortly after arrival so I assume I was not a priority since I was a repair. 2 hours later - My nails are messy around the edges. I was cut with the file on the side of my nail while the tech was using the e file. Gel was applied over the still bloody nail as you can see in the picture. The only nails they fixed were the missing ones, I told them I was concerned the other ones would pop off too and they assured me they would be fixed. When I got home another one of the original nails they did not fix came off. *Update, within a week the entire set of nails popped off with the whole nail coming off the bed in one piece. I have been doing my nails for 10 years and never experienced this before. I unfortunately won't be returning any more as the whole experience was offputting. read more

This is the third time I have been here to have my nails done. The first two times I had them done by a different lady than I did this time. The girl who did my nails today was Rida, and nearly the entire time she was with me she was not paying attention to her work. The first half hour she stopped working on me to answer the salon phone and book an appointment for someone. (She had brought the schedule and phone to her work station and had the schedule on a chair next to her.) The rest of the time she kept looking up and giving most of her attention to anyone who came in the front door or any type of conversation that was going on at the desk. I felt 100% like I was disrupting her and felt totally unimportant and uncared for. I also noticed she didn't do anything with my cuticles, and it'd be almost a month since I came in last or did anything to them myself. She was also extremely aggressive when filing and nicked my skin a few times. I went in at 3pm today, finished around 4pm. I went out to get groceries and came home, did a few chores, and only then did I notice my nails looked like this. 5 out of 10 of my nails have chipped polish already; they didn't dry completely I guess, because the spots that are peeling are still slightly squishy. I never had any stand-out issues with this salon before this and I am extremely disappointed that I spent $60 on this. read more

Being new to the city I've tried a number of places - the technicians, experience and attention to detail at Nail It are worth going back for - everytime. I had tried higher end salons on 17th, while the focus is on the guest experience (which I enjoyed) the quality of technicians was compromised and they faced a high rotation of fairly new staff. I had nails fall off and lift and was ready to give up until a friend recommended Lan at Nail It. And I'll never go anywhere else. First of all, let me preface that it had been more than a year since I had patronized this salon. Upon my return, this is what I experienced. The manager could learn some manners and class when dealing with the public. She flat out called me a liar when I answered her question as to where I had gotten the nail file and buffer that I had brought along with me. (Nail It charges an extra $1 for the nail file used for your procedure and you're advised to bring it back upon your return, I still had mine and they had only been used once). I told her that it was from the same salon but from over a year ago. She proceeded to tell me "No.They are not from here. These are shitty." I was in utter disbelief by what she said. I threw it right back at her and told her I resented her implication that I was a liar. At that point I was tempted to walk out but couldn't as my previous gel manicure was in the middle of being filed off. She was rude, condescending and did not apologize. Instead she kept going and on and on and on about how wrong I was. Throughout my service, she kept shooting me dirty looks from across the room(the nerve!). I guess she was supposed to do my service but I requested someone else given I didn't feel the need to be lectured and glared at and be called a liar. Diana, you were lovely and did a fantastic job. I would give this place 0 stars if it was an option. The lady that did my nails did an awful, awful job. It's overpriced for a crappy nails. She didn't flatten the acrylic very well, so from the sides my nails were bumps. My nails were uneven and there were air bubbles on 3 of my nails. A week later the air bubbles and around my nails turned BROWN. Save your money and go somewhere else. I've had amazing mani's that cost $50, and fills that are $37. I went in to the salon hoping to get a gel fill and a pedicure. I had called and asked for prices over the phone was told that a fill was $50..and a pedi was $40. WHAT THEY FAILED TO MENTION was that if you want more than 1 colour or ombre or design is $20 more or even more. For your hands. So my fill would have been anywhere from $70-90 depending on what I want. Possibly more. That's disgusting. The funny part was when I was asking about designs the girl at the desk would run to her manger and speak in another language and come back with a price. I felt like I was being taken advantage of because there was no price chart and it was all just up to the manager discretion. Second for the pedicure if you want gel polish it's also $20 more. It was easy to book an appt the same day. To get straight to the point, this is by far the worst experience I've had at a nail salon. We already had a bad impression of the place coming in. We were expecting to get pedicures in the beautiful salon chairs they have pictures of but instead sent us to a back room where they had older and not so pretty looking massage/spa chairs. The second thing that annoyed me was when I chose a nude color for my toes. The lady asked me about three times, "Oh you like this color?" I could already tell that she was judging me based off of the color I chose. I am paying for the service I should be allowed to choose a color without being judged. Third strike was when the lady who was doing my friends nails cut too much of her cuticles and caused it to burn until the next day. She also used a really thick nail polish without using any thinner and got nail polish all over my friends toes. To top it off both ladies kept talking back to each other in Vietnamese. Little did they know that my friend was Vietnamese and heard all the shit they were talking about us. We also asked to get our lips waxed and they denied us because they were too busy or short staffed. Lip waxing takes less than 5 minutes! Found myself needing my nails done while in Calgary. Everyone was so friendly, welcoming, super clean. They have been open for like 7 weeks. I went from acrylic nails to shellac gel and they did such a good job and there was no damage to my real nail done. It's a bit on the pricey side, I'm a bit confused as to why it was 20$ for a manicure, 20$ for the gel...with the take off of my acrylics and tip I was pushing 60$...in the states it would have been at the most 35$ 1 block away from the tower so that was cool. read more

Great new place to get your nails done downtown! This place is super close to where I live, and walking by this morning I decided to check it out. It's much larger on the inside than it looks. Close to the Core, you can grab breakfast nearby and head on in. I got a shellac pedicure and the orange scrub was incredible! They squeeze real orange slices over your legs over the exfoliative scrub and it smells so fruity and delicious! Many girls also offered to refill my tea multiple times. Anna and Mary did my nails. Have been here before about 3 times and I loved the service... at first. The manager is rude, snarky and so are some of the staff. They charge for wanting your nails on the longer side, which I have never been charged anywhere else in the city (I have been getting my nails done for about 6 years) so when I politely asked why they did that the manager told me "if you don't like it you can go somewhere else" after this she proceeded to give me nasty looks my whole appointment. They also charge you $1 and give you a nail file and buffer to go home with. Which they are expecting you to bring back every appointment. This salon is beautiful but the prices are sky high and staff is rather rude... I've been disappointed with service on a couple of occasions but decided to give them one last shot before finding another nail salon. I left feeling a little disgruntled. Firstly, I had booked an appointment with Rida about 10 days prior for a fill. I showed up on time, but she was nowhere to be found. Assuming I was her first client for the day, I thought I'd be patient and understanding to why she may have been late. 10 minutes later, she finally showed up but definitely took her time to get settled in as I sat there waiting. During the fill, she'd constantly stop to text on her phone while I just sat there. Normally I wouldn't mind if it was an urgent thing but she'd constantly stop in the middle of filing a nail down. She even answered a phone call and had to stop working on me completely until she hung up her phone. At the end of the appointment I ended up being charged $15 more for getting the same thing done to my nails as before. Same colour, same everything. I thought that was a little unfair. I didn't say anything in the moment but I wish I had. After finally getting home and examining them, I noticed a LOT of paint bubbles on almost every nail... They give great pedicures and give you your money's worth. I go to Tram for my nails and she is amazing, takes her time and gives me the perfect shape every time! I got my nails done (not by my usual girl)and within 24 hours 6 of my nails were broken or cracked I came in to get them fixed they made me wait 30 minutes before telling me to book in a time for the next day. I had also called to make an appointment weeks in advance because I have a busy schedule and they made me an appointment when I showed up for it there was no appointment booked on their end and they wouldn't take me. The location is fun Bc it's in downtown Calgary along the pedestrian street which is full of fun shops and cafes. Parking can get expensive on the weekend so I'd suggest making appointments during the week. I got gel shellac nails done and the shape and design was nice. What i didn't like was my pedicure experience. I got the deluxe pedicure and expected a nice massage with the lotion and sugar scrub. Unfortunately I was unaware they do a 40 min service regardless of what is needed. I pay extra to also have shellac on my toes, which as you know takes time to remove if the tech chooses to use acetone rather than drill, my tech choose the acetone. Well instead of using that time, which is an extra $20 service, as a separate service, they tied the time into my pedicure. Making my massage less than 2 minutes! It was the worst pedicure experience I've had. It felt rushed and there was no time to relax. read more

My friend and I are on a work trip and had an extra few hours to explore the city today. We decided we wanted some pampering so we called and made an appointment for noon. When we got there we were seated at a table as if we were going to be greeted with our nail techs immediately or in the next couple minutes. However, this wasn't the case We waited there, being pretty much ignored for 45 minutes. If we had known they were running so behind we would have come back so we could get all we could out of the time we had in the city. After 45 minutes of sitting there, i think they figured they should just send ANYONE over to start removing my friends shellac. So they sent the receptionist who obviously wasn't trained and therefore had to use a file to begin removal. This REMOVAL alone took 35 minutes. They switched our nail techs about 4 times throughout the appointment. My friend got some cuts on her fingers from the roughness of the removal and her nails were so uneven, even though she kept expressing she wanted them to he square, which in our eyes means straight. The reason the nail tech was so bad at making the nails straight was because everyone in this place is so distracted but EVERYTHING happening in the salon. So they're not looking, and rushing. My friend and I were over it. By the time my nails were done (which dont look great), she was STILL having them manicured. She asked them to stop because she was so displeased with the service. They began speaking to eachother in another language instead of addressing my friend directly, it was embarrassing for her and completely rude. You guys really need to work on your customer service quality, it's really lacking. A simple appointment that should have taken 45-1 hour TOPS was 2 hours. and my friend didn't even get her service done!!!!! don't bother coming here. read more

I've had several negative experiences at Nail It Salon and keep hoping to have a more positive one but I'm officially done trying now. Despite the location being very convenient for downtown workers and the salon being easy to get into, the service has continually been disappointing. I've had my nails ground down until they are thin and painful, a tech tried to literally rip off one of my fake nails instead of removing it properly, and I've been cut with a nail file and started bleeding. Only once did I receive an apology. At my most recent appointment, I requested that the tech does not use any of the grinders while removing my shellac because of my previous negative experience. This became very contentious as the tech continually tried to use the grinder for different reasons. I explained that I don't want it to be used at all so she called someone else over to try and convince me. I've been to several salons that never touch grinders unless someone has tips or fake nails. There isn't a reason why she couldn't complete my service without it. She tech was visibly upset about my preference and kept yelling across the room to people and shaking her head. It was a very unpleasant experience. Overall, this salon has been continually disappointing. Despite the location it is not worth trying even once. read more

Interior design: 5/5 It is a minimalistic ,bright, urban modern styled salon. Light and bright colour scheme. Mint, white, and gray. Service: 2/5 The customer service here is a hit or miss. The owner can be nice at first but she quickly changes her tone of voice accordingly to the flow in the salon. Not many of the staff here seem to smile or talk much. The staff here genuinely are nice people however there needs to be more communication and training as some seem to struggle with the services. Half of the time, there is always miscommunication. Quality of work seems to be very inconsistent. You are better off booking an appointment with the more reassuring nail tech that you like if you want consistency. If the salon is busy, you can expect people to be everywhere and rushed. Price: 3/5 The pricing here can easily be expensive as you are charged for every single additional thing. Eg. I had a really bad experience. The technician was not trained well, she did a shellac for me. And the NEXT DAY it chipped. During the process I could see she isn't doing it well and I kept telling her to. She didn't understand English or just didn't listen, I don't know. So I called them and they said they'd fix it. But the manager/owner Anna was extremely rude and dismissive when I went in to get it fixed. She could clearly see it is not sealed but refused to own up. Kept repeating that the technician did it ok. What a waste of time and money.! The hygiene and customer service both are substandard. They do not sterilize their instruments too. read more

I was recommended to Nail It by a friend and so I made an appointment for a new gel set and pedicure, as I always love trying out new places, unfortunately, this place turned out to be mediocre. You're paying more for the experience (beverages served, real orange slices used etc.) and convenience of the location, rather than the quality of the service instead. They started with my pedicure (I got the gold which costed $40) which was very rushed, the lady took about 30 seconds to massage and exfoliate each leg and I'm the type of person who thinks that's one of the most important parts so I wasn't pleased. Keep in mind that you have to chose from lower quality polishes for this pedicure and if you want to use OPI (which is usually standard) it costs you an extra $5. So I was stuck using a pink color that they had to apply three coats of to get the polish to show up enough. Next we moved on to get my nails done, I didn't know this before coming in but they have one standard price for a set of nails ($60) and so they don't charge you extra or less for gel/acrylic etc. (At least that's what they're menu suggests) Which can be bad if you're getting acrylic because you're technically paying for the price of gel which is more expensive than acrylic by usually $15 at other salons. I thought I was getting gel done but it turned out to be this stuff called solar? Which I didn't end up liking at all. In the end my nails looked okay, the color and design were nice but the shaping wasn't even and there was excess nail glue and product around my nails which made my skin stick to it, it was very uncomfortable for the first few days. Overall this salon is a great place to come to if you don't mind paying a little extra than the other places and if you work downtown and need something done quickly. But as that is not necessary to me, I don't think I would be back. read more

If you value your time, DO NOT come to this salon. I called ahead to make an appointment for 430 and even came early to the appointment. After 25 minutes of waiting, I asked one of the Vietnamese ladies how much longer it would be cause I had an appointment at 430. The lady (who I know speaks english) asked another non-vietnamese lady to tell me that they were too busy and couldn't take me today. WELL WHY DID YOU BOOK MY APPOINTMENT THEN???????? I am a young working professional and only choose to go to this salon because it is close to work but they are mediocre at best.
