I did a walk-in over the weekend for a dip/gel manicure with tips. I've been getting dip/gel nails for years and have never had an experience like this. The technician did not seem to know how to properly remove tips and ended up breaking my natural nail in the process. Once completed, my nails were extremely uneven. I was never asked to wash my hands before the gel application and was only told to do so afterward, which was concerning. The tools and techniques used were unlike anything I've experienced before and did not inspire confidence. Less than a week later, my nails are already chipping and the gel top coat is peeling off completely. For a $70 service, this is unacceptable. This is by far the worst nail service I've ever had--uneven, poorly balanced, and already coming apart within days. Very disappointed. read more

I have unfortunately witnessed more than a few times when other customers act inappropriately such as talking loudly on their phones or rudely demanding that the nail tech perform additional services and the staff is always professional under these difficult circumstances. read more

I needed a pedicure really bad and remembered this spot recommended by a customer at my job. I called to see if they took walk ins, and they said yes and proceeded to ask what service I needed and the time I was looking to come around. I needed a gel pedicure plus removal, and luckily they were able to get me in. I walked in and was immediately greeted, they knew what service I needed and gave me color swatches to choose from and seated me in a pedicure recliner. I wish I knew my nail tech's name, but the young man who did my pedicure did a great job and I'm so so happy that I was able to check Nail Styling Salon out! I was in and out in about an hour with my feet looking pretty and softer than ever. Parking can be time consuming depending on the time of day, but if you're used to being in downtown this is nothing new. First I will say that they did an amazing job on my acrylic nail fill and my daughters full set. The reason for the low review is because of their pricing. It said right on the sign that the fill was $35. They charged $70 because supposedly my nails are long. It doesn't say anywhere that it's TWICE as much for this. My daughters was $83 for a set with design. A full set was $45. I understand that a design is more but $38 more?!?! What the what? I pointed out the price discrepancies but the lady didn't agree so what could I do? They shouldn't be able to tack on extra fees that aren't listed. Not happy at all. This place is super convenient because of the central downtown location of Gay St/High St, and Sue and her daughter Doreen do an excellent job. They take their time and use care, and aren't like a lot of places that I've been that try to rush a basic manicure out the door. I'm almost always able to walk in around lunch time and be in and out in 20 minutes or so. This place is fantastic, and a great value ($18 cash, $19.50 for credit). The most crowded day is definitely Friday, so maybe give them a heads up instead of walking in. Tuesday is my foolproof walk in time, never had an issue, and I always ask to see Doreen or Sue specifically. It was a busy day for the salon and I stopped in to see if they could fit me in for a quick manicure. Instead of turning me away, or asking me to wait, they asked a girl who clearly doesn't give manicures regularly to assist me. I got past it thinking it would be fine and then she start to slather on the polish in gloppy, uneven, strokes. Parts of my nail were unpainted because she kept missing certain areas so she just kept putting layers on. Finally, I say to her " I think that's enough paint" and I attempt to get away. One of the woman who had been busy when I entered GRABBED MY HAND as I was walking by, scoffed at my nails, and pointed at her chair for me to sit. There were no other clients in the shop and I was accepted in after the phone call. I went in for a pedicure with gel polish. I got my nails done a week and a half ago. I got acrylic with gel polish. In less than a week the polish chipped which gel definitely should not and at the week and at 1 1/2 weeks my nail should not have broken off when I do desk work and I've done nothing to damage my nails even if I was rough with them I've never had nails this new break. The tech I had was polite, listened to what I wanted, and then basically left me the heck alone to answer emails and surf the internet while he did my mani and pedi. It was HEAVEN. And the chairs, fabulous. If you like chairs that really work your back, then this place is for you. I didn't try the butt massage feature, but I think I will next time. I work within walking distance from this salon, so I went today for a french manicure and had a lovely experience. The owner lady was very efficient and did a very nice job on my nails. She cleaned them up, massaged my hands with lotion, and even asked if I wanted to pay before she started with the polish, so I wouldn't need to dig through my purse with wet nails. Great chairs, great service and a perfect mani/pedi. This salon is tucked away on Gay St., which is my favorite street to drive down. Have you seen the brownstones? If not, take a drive one quiet Sunday morning. It totally reminds me of the Cosby Show! Back to the salon, I walked in around 6pm. Parking was a bit difficult, but I snagged a spot in front after driving around. Of course, it was a 30 minute spot, but the salon offered to keep putting money in for me while I was there. How's that for service? The chairs were great, I like the ones that really knead into your back. They also give you water without asking, which is nice. Both services (gel mani and regular pedi) were great. If I wasn't leaving town, I'd go back and get the reflexology pedicure, it sounds divine. I was out within about an hour and a half, which is pretty good. Both my pedicure and gel manicure were absolutely perfect! And they give a great foot/hand massage too. Everyone seemed friendly, and cared about your experience. There were some regulars in there, and they were conversing about work stuff. The gentleman that gave me my pedicure did a wonderful job and I would give him 5 stars. The lady that did my "change of polish" was argumentative. I asked for her not to cut my cuticles and she still cut them. This was after she argued with me numerous times that I had acrylic on and I kept telling her that I really don't have acrylic nails on. After the change of polish was done she informed me that it was $60 I asked how much a change of polish was and she said $30. Ok, I'm fine with that price then she said "I'm going to charge you $5 more for the use of the machine" she hands me my bill after she ran my card and there is yet another change on there for nearly $5. I asked how it went from the first $60 to now $70. She said it was because I paid in card. I asked her to cancel it and and I will pay in cash as she didn't mention an additional fee for credit cards. She said "no" I asked why she didn't tell me there is an additional fee a few times. I got an acrylic nail fill here, no color, just a clear gel top coat and it was about 40$. The people were nice, but the communication was not great and It hurt a lot when she tried to remove one of my acrylics I was honestly holding back tears, and it should not hurt that badly. they gave me a bottle of water though! i have had acrylic nails on and off for a few years and I've gone to a lot of salons, and this was one of the worst experiences. my regular place was closed so I decided to give this shop a shot. It is clean and looked nice and was close. I like to get designs on my nails, and the design i brought in was not difficult (a few stripes on pointer fingers, polka dots on my thumbs) and I had a picture - which I always ask if someone can do before I sit down to get my nails done. the woman made it seem like it was not a big deal, she knew what i wanted and could do it, but that proved to be a falsehood. nails are a luxury and an extra expense and i don't want to pay the $ for it if i don't like it which is why i even care enough to write a review. i really like getting my nails done but this woman took a ridiculous amount of time - i was there almost 3 hours total, had to refill my meter twice - for all the time she took, her general craftsmanship was shoddy, and she struggled to do basic polka dots and a few stripes, which in my experience is something a nail tech should know how to do. On top of that she charged me $20 extra for the "design", which is too much for what she did. The place is clean and has nice equipment, I'm sure pedicures are fine, i just would never go back for anything on my hands. read more
