I recently had my nails done in Japan, and after 6 weeks, it was time to have them removed and replaced with a new set. It was easy to schedule an appointment with Nailaland, just give them a call and book. The removal fee was $15, and the cost of a new set varied from $70-90+, depending on the chosen design. Chloe, my nail technician, was very patient during the removal process despite the big jewels flying everywhere as she was filing it off. After showing her a photo of the new design I wanted, she skillfully delivered a pretty finished product that I absolutely loved. Unfortunately, one of the butterfly wings broke after I got home, but Chloe was able to schedule a free fix after I contacted her. The salon accepts Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal as payment methods. Disappointed with my experience I tried Nailaland twice, but both visits were frustrating and disappointing. First appointment in November: I was excited to try this salon and easily scheduled an appointment via text. However, despite confirming the time the day before, I received a text 20 minutes before my appointment (while already driving the 25-minute distance) asking if I could come later. I explained I was on my way, but we still started 30 minutes late. With a time commitment after the appointment, the technician rushed through my nails, and I didn't get the design I originally wanted. I did try to be understanding during this first appointment because the traffic + weather that day seemed to have pushed her client schedule behind. Second appointment in December: Hoping for a better experience, I booked an appointment to get my nails done for the holidays. I arrived on time, texted the technician to let me in, but received no response. After knocking for nearly 10 minutes and calling, someone else opened the door and said they'd contact my technician. Several minutes later, I was informed she had a flat tire and wouldn't make it. The technician never reached out to notify me or reschedule. I couldn't wait due to my babysitter's schedule and the long drive, leaving with wasted time, gas, and no nails done for Christmas. This review is for my lashes with Wendy. I've been going to her for many years now even when they had the other location in Newark. IMO she's the best lash technician in this area. I've tried other places and she does the best job! My lashes stay for a minimum 3 weeks. She's super gentle and always makes me look so pretty! She is so gentle, I end up falling asleep most sessions. I even still kept my appointments through my whole pregnancy because she's so quick! It's hard laying down for an hour when you're pregnant but she made things so comfortable. The nurses kept calling me "the pretty patient" when I went in to give birth. Lol! I have mixed feelings about Nailaland. I have been looking for a nail salon in the east bay that uses Japanese gel and stumbled upon this place bc of the great reviews. Japanese gel is supposed to last much longer and doesn't lift. I immediately requested an appt. (it was my first time using this yelp option!). I answered some automated questions about the service I was interested in (nail art), dates I was available for an appt., who I'd like to make an appt. with (I chose Janice bc she had more reviews), and uploaded photos of inspo nails. I was messaged back in a timely matter to confirm the appt. I also inquired about the price (included a photo of the nails i wanted) to know what to expect with nail art. I was quoted $70-$75 (without extensions). Fast forward to my 11am appt. a few days after our interaction.. I arrive 10 min early, but the shop is completely closed. The sign says they are open at 10am, so I'm confused, like maybe I'm at the wrong place or?? I call, a girl apologizes saying someone should be there shortly. Ok, not a huge deal. I thought I would be getting my nails done by Janice, since that's who I chose in my appt. request, but Yumi was the one who opened up the shop and ended up doing my nails. She was really sweet and easy to talk to. For my nails, I wanted the design from the photo, but without the accent nail. I wasn't completely satisfied with my nails bc I feel like it wasn't as precise as in my inspo photo, but it was decent enough. When I went to pay she told me my total was $89, which caught me off guard bc according to our messages, I was quoted $70-$75, which when I told her, she said "I said it would be AROUND $70-$75." Why give a price range and not honor it? $14 is a big difference. Anyway, I'm not one to cause a scene so I paid, tipped, and left feeling like I was taken advantage of. 5 days after getting my nails done, the gel has already started lifting/ peeling. I'm pretty experienced when it comes to getting lash extensions. I used to get them all the time for 2 years. However, I took a break and recently came back to them because I wanted to look nice for my trip to Europe. The price is very fair as my new set of 6D eyelash extensions were only $150. However I was pretty disappointed with a few things. My lash technician did not provide me with a spoolie to brush my lashes. Also it has not even been a week yet and I lost over a dozen fans ON EACH EYE. (I lose one every time I brush them with the spoolie I bought off of Amazon.) Anyway it hasn't even been a week since my appointment and I already have a gap in the middle of my lashes because I have lost so many fans! I asked for something flowery and showed some pics. My nail stylist created pretty sheer pink nails with white and gold flowers. They also lasted quite long! It's been nearly 2 weeks and no signs of cracks/lifting. She was also very gentle on my cuticles, the most gentle out of all the nail salons I've been to, didn't even realize she was working on my nails! It took almost 2 hours for my manicure but am happy with the result. With design my nails turned out to be $90 (without design its around $70), I think it's money well spent given the quality of the work done. I would definitely come back for my next manicure. My review is about two weeks overdue! I sent in a message via yelp on Wednesday and within 15 minutes, Janice responded and gave me the link to book an appointment for Saturday 12 pm. I wasn't aware that there was another nail salon that did Japanese gel manicures. First, I'm very happy with the price. For a Japanese gel manicure with a design, my overall total for the service was $65. Of course, my total was higher than this because I was so happy with the result, I gave Janice a big tip. I showed up a little early but Janice helped me settle in right away. I only waited about 5 minutes before she came over to get started with what I wanted. I showed her the design and she suggested some changes. The original design had pink Sakura stickers, but she suggested to go with gold Sakura stickers because gold would pair up with the navy better. I went along with her suggestion and I'm so glad I did! Janice is very detailed with her work. She would meticulously check over my nails to make sure they're the right shape and length. I didn't even realize nearly two hours had passed because we were talking so much.
