Hands down the worst ramen of my life! I ordered the veggie ramen and didn't like the flavor at all, asked to change it for what my colleague was eating, it tasted a little better. We were three of us during dinner at the Messeplatz location. All of us got food poisoning that night. Needless to say they made me pay for the extra ramen. The ambience was so steamy, hot and the service started well, but ended in a disaster. They didn't care for the customer at all. Would NOT recommend. It has nothing to do with authentic ramen...should have known considering they have way too many options and none of them are good. Convenience is not always convenient. read more

The good: very nice staff, friendly and quick service. (I added one star back for this) Not so good: the ramen. The broth's not properly rich or flavorful. The waitress didn't know if the broth is pork or beef based. The egg's not prepared the way Ajitama are supposed to be. The chashu didn't taste like chashu. Grossly overpriced for what you're paying, even by Swiss standards. I've had ramen from all over - mostly in the U.S., and this was one of the most expensive yet also most disappointing bowls of ramen I've had to date. I hope the restaurant strives to deliver a more authentic and better quality bowl of ramen in the future, adhering and paying homage to the Japanese tradition. read more

Located around the corner from the Bankverein tram stop, if you're not specifically looking for the sign (see posted pictures), you'll likely miss this place. The menu has various options that basically let you create your own ramen dish: 1. Choose from soy or miso-based broth 2. Decide if you want it plain, with gyoza, with pork or beef, or with shrimp or fish They also have udon soup w/ similar options and a small "Japanese Tapas" menu (think maki, edamame, etc.) I ordered the soy ramen with chashu (pork). Overall, the broth was pretty tasty (could have use some more seasoning) and the noodles were cooked perfectly. While it wasn't perfect (they don't take credit cards and I had to wait quite a while for the check), the service was friendly and fast, making this an ideal lunch option. read more

The restaurant logo is super cute, the space was accommodating, quaint, and the quality of the food was good. So why only three stars you ask? Well I think it is because the other ramen houses I have been to have spoiled me with what I could add to enhance the food journey. I was able to kick up the spice of the delicious miso base with hot chili oil, and it did not disappoint, but I want the yolky egg option, crispy brussel sprouts, scallions, garlic, other flavor profiles and more. Be cautious if you want to visit here and yelp says it is closed - I was waking by and learned yelp was wrong. They do serve English menus, although it isn't really necessary, but a nice touch if you are confused. I have more to explore and try, but this little ramen shop will stay in my back pocket for just that day when a little more hot comfort ramen is needed. read more

If you've ever had even passable ramen, and I don't mean authentic, simply competent, this place is pointless. This is not ramen - it's noodle soup, and fairly poor noodle soup at that. But I gave it two stars because I wasn't expecting anything better. Compared to good ramen or authentic ramen, it's a zero. As simply a place to eat, it's serviceable. I had the shio with beef, since I didn't trust the charsiu, and it was very under-seasoned. The noodles, to quote Tanpopo, we're lacking integrity. I'll go out on a limb and say they weren't alkaline. The egg was hard-boiled and the beef was tough. But they did serve the Kirin in a cold glass and that went a long way. Did you come to Basel to eat "Japanese" food? Not worth trying in my opinion. read more

This "Japanese restaurant" is conveniently located near the Basel exhibits halls. So it will attract loads of foreign exhibit goers looking for convenient Asian food. Convenient is exactly what it is, no more, no less! It's not a full Japanese restaurant, it's more of a Westernized Japanese noodle soup house with a little bit of Western sushi (aka California rolls). The menu is pretty versatile (allows you to alternate toppings/noodles or add more) and is moderately priced for the location (it is in Switzerland and next to the exhibit halls!). I was with a big group and we ordered/tried many things. The noodles were fresh, the soup base also freshly made. Those who order meat like pork or beef will find only about 3 thinly sliced pieces of meat - so don't look for too much! You can add any topping you wish for an extra price and choose different types of noodles (Japanese ramen, udon or soba). A plus is outdoor seating! I would come back here if I was in Basel for an exhibit only bc this is the only Asian noodle house around here, but if this was in the city I lived in, I wouldn't go there. The food here sort of reminds me of Wagamama (faux Japanese food), but I'd prefer Wagamama more. read more

OMG. One word...Disappointed. Across from the Swissotel and at the Messeplatz, this place is in a really great location, wish i could say the same for the food. Being of asian decent, I was craving some comfort food, so ordered the Chashu miso ramen, edamame, and sake. The ramen broth was mediocre at best and the noodles were overcooked and had the consistency of instant noodles (not good), but the toppings of egg, carrot, sprouts, and leeks were a nice touch. The edamame was acceptable, as was the sake since it came directly from the bottle. The price for the ramen was ridiculous, but I had to remind myself that I was in Basel. Another customer had ordered skewers and sushi rolls. Both were premade and were unwrapped from its plasticwrap. Uh, not freshly made. If you are looking for a good japanese food experience, look elsewhere in Basel as I am sure you will find better. read more

Was here for lunch during a very busy season in Basel and we were craving Asian cuisine and noodles so this place hit the spot. I think the wait was about 20 minutes. Obviously don't go in expecting Japanese ramen you'd find in Asia or more metropolitan cities, but it was good enough overall.
