Oh man I loved this place! The food is delicious. It's a great fusion of Indian and Himilayan. The garlic naan is divine! A definite must try! I also tried the shrimp fried rice, it wasn't too dry or overly cooked. The lamb korma is another one of their popular dishes and I got to say it's a hit! The meat was so tender and delicious, the curry sauce goes great with the naan. So I was reading on Yelp and other Google reviews to try the chicken Momo's. It takes about 20 minutes to make because they're made by hand and done fresh. I think it was worth the wait, its like a dumpling but the inside is nicely packed with enough meat and herbs. Such a great gem hidden in Edgewater. If you're in the area this is the place to go! They also have a lot of vegetarian options which is nice. Its also BYOB! They gave us an ice bucket for our wine and uncorked it. The service is phenomenal and the waitress was so attentive. Came here for lunch (on a Thursday) right when it opened (noon). Place was empty and stayed that way until we left. No other group came or deliveries were made. Since we were the only group there I can't say how the service would be when the place is busy. At the end he asked us if it's our first time there (which it was) because he said he's never seen our faces before. So with that I'm guessing, they have regulars stopping by often. Food time! What we ordered: Lunch special (chicken), shrimp yangoon, palak paneer, garlic naan and samosa chaat. Samosa chaat ($7) was great. It's samosa but with this saucy garnish topped over it. I was expecting to get regular samosas so the garnish was a surprise. And it's enough for a group of 3-4 to share. The lunch special ($10.95) was a good amount of food. And my mom enjoyed it very much. Came with tomato soup, a lentil dish, chicken curry (?), veggie fritter and naan. I got the paneer ($12.95) and it was on the salty side (I was guzzling TONS of cups of water) but it was delicious! And this was different from other paneer I've had, in that, the spinach was totally smooth (like a smoothie). No bits of spinach left. The shrimp ($16.95) was yummy as well! BUT if you don't like coconut, I would pass on this. It's on the sweeter side so if you're expecting it would be more like curry with all the spices, it's not. And the shrimp was cooked perfectly. The naan was good too. Nice and fluffy. But I think regular naan is fine. Don't need to go fancy and order the garlic naan. They both tasted somewhat equal.lol. One funny/odd thing. I think they connect someone's cell phone for their music. Which is fine. But I can tell they were playing YouTube videos.lol. So from time to time it'll cut to weird conversations and it'll keep playing until someone noticed to change it. Overall, we were all super satisfied with all of our dishes. This place always satisfies our Indian food craving. They have really stepped up the taste from their old location on river road. The food is always on point and the service is great! the staff is friendly and make you feel welcome. One of my favorites is their Yellow Dal which is made in dhaba style. I also recommend their vegetable samosas We enjoy coming here very often. And plus its BYO! My only recommendation is some modifications on the interiors, like the flooring and the behind glass lighting on the walls. The Jersey restaurant experience is somewhat new to me. Growing up in NYC, you just walk out the door from your apartment, walk a couple a blocks and choose from the many restaurants in the area. Easy. Here in Jersey you have to plan. Hop in a car and travel. Now, this is not a biggie with me, but this gives me to many options. So when I was in the mood for Indian food, Namaste came in mind. I have heard about Namaste through Yelp. I think it was a Jersey ROTD and when I found a Groupon; oh well the deal came in play. I always found Yelp and Groupon an awesome combo. I usually shop around for deals in my area. There has been some misses, but most of the time a good experience. Namaste, is certainly a home run. While it is an Indian restaurant; it has Himalayan/Nepalese and Asian Fusion items. Now, I certainly "do not" know my way around these restaurants, but I know what I like. Good food, good service, comfortable ambiance; you all know the deal. Namaste check on all marks. The wife and I were immediately welcome and sat. It was very slow for a Tuesday night; 3 or 4 other tables, but service was spot on from beginning to end. The server navigated me through the menu and explain the different levels of spice. The wife had Tomato Soup and I had Mulligatawny Soup as starters. I found both to be flavorful, but a bit watery for my taste. My wife said her tomato soup was delicious. I guess I was looking for a more creamy soup. Our entrees were Ema Dhatsi and Chicken Tarkari with some Garlic Naan. Ema Dhatsi was a vegetarian dish that was absolutely wonderful. It was a thickly cooked dish with cheese, vegetables and chilies. While the main part of the entree had body and depth, the chilies gave it that kick. The menu states it is Bhutanese and it was a perfect match with the Chicken Tarkari. The best way to describe this dish is think "pollo guisado". It was chucks of chicken thighs cooked perfectly in a spicy red sauce. Now, I am sure they used many traditional spices from the area, but I wish I could distinguish the flavors in this awesome red sauce. All I know this flavorful Himalayan dish was delicious. Everything went well with the garlic naan. Dishes did not need to go to the dishwasher, as I was told, lol. The naan was fluffy and soft. It just absorbed every bit of tasty sauce. Overall, I would certainly come back again and try some new entrees. It was a wonderful experience. BYOB. Credit cards accepted. Parking may be a pain; street only. Cauliflower had burnt bits of other peoples food sprinkled throughout. Disgusting and unsanitary. I would never order from here again. Stop looking anymore, this place is amazing! The food has to be one of the best Indian/Nepali restaurant in north jersey! We had Chicken Choila for appetizer, MoMo and Chicken Tarkari for entree and naan. We asked for spicy so the manager gave us a special sauce, it's called the "Managers Sauce" this is very spicy. As you enter, the smell of Indian food fills the room but something is different. Throughout the night I kept trying to figure out what that unique smell/spice is because the taste of it is in the food at well. The best way that I can think to explain this place is that the food is a base of Indian but with some twists/variations. I think you'll only be able to notice the difference if you eat Indian food often but either way it's great food. There are also some typical Indian foods on the menu such as chicken tikka masala, etc. We decided to try the items on the menu that specifically said they were Himalayan and Burmese just to get a taste of something different. That being said, we tried the Chicken Tarkari and Shrimp Yangoon. Both were absolutely amazing. We asked for both of the dishes to be spicy and they made it with just the right amount of spice. It wasn't bland but it wasn't overpowering at the same time. Their garlic naan is great and the smell of it as it comes out is just hypnotizing. For dessert, we got kheer and gulab jamun. Just from the alone, I must say that you cannot leave here without trying one (or two) of the desserts. The parking situation is a little bit annoying but it's Edgewater and that's to be expected so I can't really hold that against this place. Found this amazing spot when I was craving Indian food and I didn't want to go all the way into the city. It's in a high traffic area, but there's street parking right next to the restaurant so if you go during off hours, you'll definitely find parking. My friend and I got the garlic naan, the cauliflower app (soooo good!), the lamb korma and a fried rice dish. Please try to the cauliflower app- it's amazing! I'm not a huge meat fan so the lamb korma was ok, but I did devour the sauce which is the whole point of the dish anyways. This is the best south east Asian food we've ever had. The Chicken Tikka and the Lamb Korma were just melting as soon as you take a bite. The Naan was crisp and flavorful, and even more so with the spices from both entrees. The place is definitely underpriced, and is worth a try. This is a hidden gem and we would definitely recommend this place. Their customer service is superb especially the lady (don't know her name but she was the only one there when we went). We ordered naan bread with our dish and it came out late and she said we can pick a complimentary dessert. Although we didn't take it as we were seriously so stuffed by then and I have been gaining too much weight, the gesture was very nice. In addition their food is so tasty. Namaste is a true gem in the northern Jersey area. Despite the horrible parking around the restaurant, the waitstaff is incredibly friendly and patient, the decor is tasteful and intimate, and the food is hands down spectacular. Everything we have tried on the menu so far has exceeded our expectations. They start you off with papadum (a thin crispy snack of Indian origin) with mint coriander and chutney sauces. From there, they have a slew of menu options from varying regions in the Himalayan area. My personal favorites so far are the Chicken Korma (chicken in a creamy, cashew flavored sauce) and Bhel Puri (a mix of crunchy and soft ingredients in a sweet, spicy sauce). The Potato Paratha and the Onion Kulcha are also incredibly delicious and great for dipping. The menu can be quite intimidating at first, but the waitstaff are very patient and readily assist with helpful advice. Went for Dinner Food - 5/5. The complimentary papadum is crispy with a nice spicy zing at the end and comes with two delicious dipping sauces. The Momos were good and definitely tastes like it was made from scratch, but they are on the boring side. Even though the skin of the Momo has a unique flavor, it really tastes like any other dumpling you'd get from various other Asian cuisines. On the other hand, the Chicken Choila and Lamb Korma were amazing and uniquely Himalayan in flavor! The Lamb Korma is full of fragrance with the delicious creamy sauce and the Chicken Choila has the charbroiled flavor that reminds me of the best part of Korean BBQs. The Choila was so fitting to our tastes that we got the Lamb version as well, and it was just as delicious although the lamb smell was more prevalent compared to the Korma. Garlic Naan and Basmati Rice was good and we soaked up all the Korma sauce with them. Service - 3/5. Friendly and was patient with the fact that we ordered our foods piece-meal as we did not know what we wanted. A little slow on refilling the water but we were in a distant part of the restaurant to be fair to them. They asked if we wanted more Garlic Naan and I said yes since usually an offer from the waiter implies that its free of charge but we were charged for two Garlic Naan at the end. Not a huge complaint, but I wish they'd have worded it better to give us a warning that its extra charge. Value - 4/5. Most entrees fall around the $15 range and comes with rice as a side which is a good price for dinner. The appetizers (such as the Choila) are under $10 but are good enough to be an entree. The benefit right now is that you can visit them and arrange your dinner outside of the location as we have to live. It is truly nice. The team there is excellent and very helpful. They ensure you have time to select your meal and have time for your dinner. It is wonderful. We started with Samosa for each of us (3). This was wonderful. Nice, tasty and a good way to start. We then had a variety of items that we could share. This include a healthy portion of the following: Chicken Tikka, Chicken, Tarkari, and Pala Paneer. We also had rice and Naan. The restaurant also included spices to make it more spice if you wanted. Having worked in Delhi, India for some time, it was like being back for the food alone. So as far as Nepalese food goes, this place is pretty legit lol. The dishes are very similar to Indian so if you like one, chances are you'll like the other. Came in on a Friday night, walked in and there no host stand or someone waiting at the door so it was a little awkward but a server came to us within a minute. Sat us at a small table for 2 but the place was packed so we figured to give it a chance anyway. We were served our complimentary bread and dippin sauces immediately, water seconds after (and seemingly after every sip lol) Our server, and I think all the servers, actually came from Napal. His name was Santos or San, was very personable, gave us great recommendations and checked on us after we were served every dish. The food was great, but watch the spice level! I'm defiantly a little bitch but my bf loves spicy food and ordered medium level spice, said his face was sweating! ***If you're getting Naan get the garlic naan! So good! Chicken tartani (sp?) and the goat curry were fantastic and very generous portions. Chicken choila (sp?) app was super tender and well seasoned but again spicy! Oh and the place is BOYB.
