Got some sweet ass treats from this bakery in Mundelein. It has quite a few things to get including custom orders for parties. Nana's main specialty is rum cakes, with many flavors of these. Also just come in and get something at breakfast or at lunch. There's things like coffee and zucchini bread among the menu offerings. Cool little bakery. It's pretty unassuming, but the product is not. The main thing is the rum cakes, which is just one of the treats. Comes in a few flavors. The rest of the menu features other baked items. It's about $3 for coffee. This stuff is pretty basic, so just get it to go with a cake or pastry. It's about $7 for a loaf of the zucchini bread. This has a few vegan friendly flavors interestingly. For sure it's a pretty good local bakery, where they bake things fresh. It's closed Sundays and Mondays. The zucchini bread has a few flavors okay for vegans, so they have everyone covered it seems.

Very good, fresh cakes. Service was excellent and ambience is casual. We were given samples and ended purchasing 8 cakes. I brought 6 frozen cakes home to Texas. I recommend trying them out. I understand that their soups are very good too. Definitely coming back to try other items.

Amazing homemade split pea soup. Everything this woman touches is gold. I usually hate scones because they're dry, but these are AMAZING

How much are the Pina Colada rum cake balls?

The cakes are $9 each. The balls, not sure but I would call them

The friendly guy at the counter said that they are changing their name as per the new storefront sign. This is a casual Mexican bakery with great prices. Loved all food items that I chose & I didn't chose his recommendations so those might even be better. He recommended items with ginger, coconut & traditional delights. We also did not warm up the pastries so that is how delicious the bakery items were Everything was so fresh tasting & hit the spot. I appreciate that things were not overly sweet. Recommended items: -Pineapple empanadas. -This square custard tart with real blueberries in it. -Strawberry churros. I look forward to hikes that will lead me back down this way & trying more yummy items.

To start, there were way more bakery items here than I expected! It was pretty overwhelming, making it difficult to decide what to get (and to figure out what is good). I picked up a variety of different treats: tres leches cake, flan, churros, concha bread, and rice pudding empanada. The results were mixed. As everyone has said, the tres leches cake is superb and is probably the highlight of what they make at this bakery. The other standout was the rice pudding empanada. There are no signs that say what the different pastries are so we picked it out and took a chance. It ended up being a pleasant surprise. Just perfectly sweet. But, it would be nice if they could put up signs so customers can decide what they want without having to ask staff. The churros were pretty hard and stale by the time we got them in the middle of the day. Perhaps they taste better when they are fresh. Otherwise, would not recommend. The concha bread was huge and super soft! But overall, the flavor was light and was not as sweet as I would have liked. The flan I did not mind, but my family thought it was way too firm. Overall, this bakery was too far out of my way to come back to. There were some standout items, but there were also a lot of other items that were pretty lackluster.

The pastry cabinets are filled with all types of yummy goodness. But wait, what if I want breakfast and I am gluten free. According to the menu, they have a gluten free toast. That being said, I highly suspect contamination is a challenge in here. I sat down and was promptly met with what I believe was the owner. She helped clarify some questions I had like is the Swiss cheese on the Paris Special, American Swiss or Emmental since Swiss cheese is only an American thing. It is American Swiss for those asking. When in Rome I guess. The Paris Special is diced ham, eggs, and Swiss cheese on a croissant. I also ordered the diced potatoes with onion. The sandwich was good. Eggs were cooked perfectly, ham was diced out of a bag by the texture of it... it was fine. The croissant was very buttery, but I felt it was so buttery, it lost some exterior texture a fresh croissant may have. The potatoes were very tasty, but were dripping in oil on the plate. One thing that seemed to surprise me was me was the unsweetened iced tea. I felt it had black currant in it. That was lovely! Overall, this place is good. The price was not so great. But it is definitely cheaper than a trip to Paris.

Mom had a flourless chocolate cake which was not the normal way you'd expect it to taste..dry and no raspberries whipcream etc. I skipped dessert. Last photo is my redecorated version!
