Got some sweet ass treats from this bakery in Mundelein. It has quite a few things to get including custom orders for parties. Nana's main specialty is rum cakes, with many flavors of these. Also just come in and get something at breakfast or at lunch. There's things like coffee and zucchini bread among the menu offerings. Cool little bakery. It's pretty unassuming, but the product is not. The main thing is the rum cakes, which is just one of the treats. Comes in a few flavors. The rest of the menu features other baked items. It's about $3 for coffee. This stuff is pretty basic, so just get it to go with a cake or pastry. It's about $7 for a loaf of the zucchini bread. This has a few vegan friendly flavors interestingly. For sure it's a pretty good local bakery, where they bake things fresh. It's closed Sundays and Mondays. The zucchini bread has a few flavors okay for vegans, so they have everyone covered it seems.

Very good, fresh cakes. Service was excellent and ambience is casual. We were given samples and ended purchasing 8 cakes. I brought 6 frozen cakes home to Texas. I recommend trying them out. I understand that their soups are very good too. Definitely coming back to try other items.

That being said, I highly suspect contamination is a challenge in here. I sat down and was promptly met with what I believe was the owner. She helped clarify some questions I had like is the Swiss cheese on the Paris Special, American Swiss or Emmental since Swiss cheese is only an American thing. It is American Swiss for those asking. When in Rome I guess. The Paris Special is diced ham, eggs, and Swiss cheese on a croissant. I also ordered the diced potatoes with onion. The sandwich was good. Eggs were cooked perfectly, ham was diced out of a bag by the texture of it... it was fine. The croissant was very buttery, but I felt it was so buttery, it lost some exterior texture a fresh croissant may have. The potatoes were very tasty, but were dripping in oil on the plate. One thing that seemed to surprise me was me was the unsweetened iced tea. I felt it had black currant in it. That was lovely! Overall, this place is good. The price was not so great. But it is definitely cheaper than a trip to Paris.

This is based primarily on the fact that they had styrofoam to go on the edamame and it was very hot which I appreciated. However it gave off a fishy odor, which I guess hot food can do in styrofoam. Hot food releases some nasty chemical. I looked it up because I almost threw it out but wondered why it would smell so weird. By the time I got it home the smell had dissipated but please use a more eco friendly, healthier option for your take out. I didn't really have a lot to review food wise because I only got the dumplings and an order of edamame to go. There were far more interesting things on the menu. The dumplings were good but a bit greasier than I would have liked and again, set on a styrofoam tray with plastic wrap on top. The portion was good and the flavor of the dumplings good though, even though wrapped in plastic they lost any crispness they may have had. Well and edamame is edamame, so other than the off putting smell I'm going to rinse and warm them and have them for lunch today. The lady that took my order was cheerful and friendly, and service was pretty quick, probably less than the ten minutes quoted. Next time I go I'll try one of their more interesting lunches and eat it there. There are a few booths and tables to sit at and it wasn't busy when I was there.

I was fully aware the restaurant closed at 10:00 PM, but I still had 25 minutes before closing. When I walked in, I was immediately met with a nasty look and no greeting. Instead, I was asked what I needed. I was then told they were "pretty much closed" because everything had already been cleaned up and put away. I told them I wanted the Pick Two with a salad and a sandwich. They had nothing but an attitude and clearly had no motivation to make the food. One of them grabbed a to-go container and just assumed I wanted it to go without even asking me. At that point, I simply said, "Just forget it. I'll go somewhere else." It's absolutely disgusting how a business or its employees could treat a customer like this. If you're open until 10:00 PM, customers should be able to order until 10:00 PM without being made to feel like they're a burden. They're lucky my wife was with me to keep me from escalating the situation further because it would have gotten much worse. I own my own business, and I would never treat my customers the way I was treated tonight.

The chickpea and vegetable soup was packed with vegetables and had a flavorful broth. The bread and chocolate covered strawberry included were a nice touch and made it feel like you were getting a lot for your money. The interior of the restaurant is huge - lots of seating available. Hwang Dae Gham is located in a non-descript strip mall with some closed store fronts, so plenty of parking. My daughter and I were in town and needed to visit in the Northern suburbs, so afterwards decided to have lunch at a place that had meaning for us. Unfortunately, it was closed on Mondays so chose another Korean restaurant. Hwang Dae Gham ended up a great choice. We came soon after it opened, and it was already busy. It is a family owned business, and they obviously take great pride in their food and service. We had a chance to eat a lot of their non-BBQ offerings, and every one of them was excellent. Started with two appetizer portions: mul-mandu (small, bite-size steamed dumplings...supposed to be only pork but I swear I tasted seafood/fish in it...very good...reminded me of eating pelmini in it's size and density); the other was a small portion of japchae which we devoured...usually not a fan of this style of Korean mung-bean noodles, but really enjoyed it. We got two entrees (didn't share for once, so each got what we wanted). I got the squid bibim-bap (mixed rice in a stone bowl)...it's important to look at the pictures, cause it clearly explains the difference between the normal bibim-bap. They basically put a large portion of the squid-bokum, on top of rice...missing the normal cold greens. It was different, and I loved it. It was served with the requisite gochujang sauce, but you don't need it. It's already pre-seasoned. My daughter got the Gamja-Tang (spicy soup with potato and pork neck), and she really enjoyed it....like most Korean hot soups, great for a chilly February Chicago day. All of it comes with side dishes and purple rice. We especially liked the sweet glazed potatoes, picked cucumbers, and sliced mung bean pancake. Service was very warm and consistent throughout. It was just a beautiful opportunity to have a great meal and spend a lot of time with my adult daughter, reminiscing about the past and planning for the future. The entire Hwang Dae Gham environment was very conducive to that. I really wish I had two stomachs so I could sample the other dishes on the menu...all of it looked so good. We ended up bringing home most of the entrees, and it was delicious re-heated. Really inspires me to explore K-Town more when I get home.

This place is just *chefs kiss* I've been here numerous times and the customer service is always A1. Depending on if you are here for lunch or dinner can affect how fast your service is but one thing is for sure; you will always be taken cared of. I've ordered in house and for take out and my orders have never been messed up. The interior is cute, a bit small but it can fit a good number of people there. The employees are nice and fast with their service. My go to order is a regular eye round and brisket pho alongside a side of fresh shrimp egg rolls. The pho portion is huge, lots of good condiments including fresh lime, bean sprouts, fresh basil and extra chili oil. The noodles are tender and plentiful and the broth is super hot, flavorful with tender brisket and eye round steak that is tender. It's always really, really good. The shrimp egg rolls are always fresh and just refreshing when I bite into it. The shrimp is large and juicy and the veggies are fresh and crunchy. It's never a miss when I ordered this. You get two large rolls but they can easily be halved and split if you're with a bigger party. In summary, this place is tasty, refreshing and yummy!
