This was not stated in any policy on the website or app. When I explained my situation, the driver hung up on me. I sent a text requesting a refund but received no response. When I contacted customer service, I spoke with Ashe, who informed me that Big John has a verbal policy in place that drivers cannot go upstairs or enter the building. However, this policy was not stated on the website or app. After placing another order for cash delivery, I was informed by Ashe that the driver would not come upstairs. Despite explaining that I have a disability that makes it difficult for me to go downstairs, Ashe gave me a five-minute ultimatum and threatened to blacklist me. This behaviour constitutes a breach of the 2010 Act on Harassment/victimization. As a customer with a disability, I feel that I was not treated with the same consideration as able-bodied customers. Ash was very clear that failure to come downstairs would result in being blacklisted. This made me feel victimized and pressured, especially as the driver only gave me two minutes to get downstairs, which was virtually impossible due to my disability. Despite explaining my situation, the driver continued to call me multiple times, putting a lot of pressure on me. This mistreatment has led me to seek legal advice. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it downstairs in the given time frame, as I was struggling with the stairs. I regret to inform you that the food I received was lukewarm and not hot, which made it almost cold. I was disappointed with the experience and felt mistreated. As evident from my history, I am a frequent patron of your services. However, I must bring to your attention that the driver assigned to my recent delivery has constant pressure to get downstair. Ahh Big John's... That familiar warmth that washes over me as I see the pink on green colour…read morescheme, and the way that the words 'Famous Five' makes me think of chicken nuggets rather than Enid Blyton perhaps says a lot about my relationship with Birmingham's fast food institution. My relationship with Big John's on the Bristol Road went from a curious first meeting at the outlet opposite the Vauxhall Garage beyond Millenium Point, to a passionate few months of indulgence following a move to Selly Oak (The Bristol Road Big John's stood between my house and the train station as a constant temptation). Following dieting and vegetarianism, we're not really on speaking terms at present, sadly. Perhaps the best reason to visit Big John's on the Bristol Road lies in its rivalry with Pizza Pepper next door, which has led to an outrageous price war between both establishments, slashing pizza prices to less than 50% (In real terms, a massive 12" pizza from Big John's is a steal at £4.99). While Pizza Pepper's pizzas are less drenched in grease, Big John's has a small advantage by letting customers pick as much of their own toppings as they'd like. For example, my usual would be cheese, pepperoni, jalapenos, chinese chicken, regular chicken, red onions, peppers, mince, a second layer of cheese and a top layer of pepperoni - ONLY in that order. While the shame of struggling home with such a large box past masses of people waiting for busses might hurt for a while, the dinner (and following breakfast of leftovers) will be well worth the while. Besides pizza, Big John's covers a large variety of chip shop regulars, peri-peri chicken, kebabs, kid's meals and even paninis. These are all mostly inexpensive, with the 'Famous Five' deal in Selly Oak remaining an old favourite. When I moved to Selly Oak two years ago, a fairly small - but still generous - portion of six chicken nuggets and chips, a slice of pizza and chips, a donner meat burger, one piece of chicken and chips or four hot wings and chips were all available for £1 each, which proved to be a very tempting proposition at first. Following two jumps in price to £1.25, then £1.50 a few weeks ago, it remains a good deal but is less likely to make me count my change in the street like it used to. Perhaps over-indulgence has overshadowed my relationship with the Big John's in Selly Oak, but it continues to open new stores and keep customers happy with a large and often pretty tasty menu, so it must be doing something right.

This little place is even better because it's also called 'Chicken' so you know exactly what you're getting before you even walk in.....brilliant!! Most of the time I only buy my fried chicken from certain takeaway shops but when I visited this shop I was pleasantly surprised. It's not bad at all and they offer great value meals for those on a tight budget who can't afford to buy expensive lunches. They don't overdo the chicken coating as some places tend to overdo it and therefore the chicken ends up tasting horrible. Also, it's not as greasy as what I expected; which was a pleasant surprise as well. I paid about £2 for a chicken and chips meal and that totally filled me up for most of the day.

I requested some chicken, fries, ribs, a can of Fanta and a bottle of Coke. The chicken was horrible, it really was sodden with grease, the fries were soggy, the ribs were not made from pork at all (I dread to think what it was, I only ate one), it wasn't Fanta I received it was some cheap imitation called Mirinda and it wasn't Coke either it was Pepsi. It is safe to say NOTHING that I ordered was any good or correct. If you can't supply the exact item that someone has ordered you need to tell them, don't advertise Fanta if you mean Mirinda, i would not have ordered it. If you go to HMV to buy Despicable Me on DVD you don't expect to be given Shrek and told it's almost the same as they are both animated, do you? In bars and restaurants all places need to ask you if you are ok with Pepsi if you ask for Coke, for the full reason that it is not the same product. I don't really expect much when it comes to take away anyway but at the same time i don't think it takes much either to get simple things like an order right. I don't really expect much in the way of food quality either but there is food and then there is bin contents and quite frankly this was bin contents. Finally if you're going to call yourselves Chicken.com, why not obtain the web address that is Chicken.com? This only sums up how stupid the people who run this restaurant must be in the first place. AVOID!

Sunday was the launch of XP at the Mockingbird Theatre. This is a geek themed event held once a night and is a bit of a mecca for all things board game, computer game, quiz and film orientated. Naturally we had to go. I am currently on a bootcamp scheme (see http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/fit-body-bootcamp-birmingham for info), meaning I am on a strict diet of proteins, fats and No carbs. After consuming a smoothie for my breakfast and a salad for my lunch, I was starving hungry by 5pm. Everyone seemed to be either ordering pizza (a major no-no for me) or heading to Subway for their tea. I thought neither of these would be an option before a helpful person mentioned that Subway did salad bowls, problem solved... Or so I thought. Despite having all of the components of salad, Subway in Digbeth DON'T do salad bowls (and their staff are pretty unhelpful too). In a major grump, I left the store to see what else was on offer on the street. Right next door I came across Mother Clucker. Firstly, they scored a point for having a name that made me snigger, secondly... They couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. After a quick peruse of the menu I opted for lemon and herb chicken (which is served without skin). I asked if I could have some salad with this, after looking at me strangely for a minute - the guy said "Sure, we can do that. It'll be no extra charge". Winner. The chicken was cooked fresh for me as I waited and I requested some lettuce, onion and chillies (all I could have). I was even warned that the salad might be a bit rubbish as it's predominently meant for burgers, but I thought it was sweet that they warned me. My diet friendly feast was a budget busting £3.50. The guys that did end up going to Subway ended up pretty jealous of my dinner after all. This new kid on the block is sparkling clean, very friendly and super helpful. Will I be back? You can bet your bottom dollar I will.

If you've attended the University of Birmingham, then there's a good chance you know all about it already: Staples such as the 'number five' and similarly popular set meals (which are damn good value for money, might I add) are common amongst the student lexicon and are placed at the lofty status of "legendary". Much of this high opinion of the House comes from those staggering home from Fab - the guild's weekly clubnight which goes down every Saturday night. Therefore, if there's not much on your telly and you're in need of a laugh, your best bet would be to sit outside Rooster House from around midnight on a Sunday morning and watch the train wrecks come and go. I imagine that Rooster House does the majority of its business during these fraught and hilarious hours of the night and it's almost impossible to not get sucked in. I find the chips to be pretty good, but the hot wings are the real winner here. You could always get a pizza, but if you do then you're completely missing the point. This place really pulls together the campus community and gave me plenty of opportunity to engage in interesting conversations with friends old and new. Never a dull moment here. Anything you order will definitely fill you up, usually with leftovers in the morning as a reminder of your bad life choices. Obviously, the chicken is a customer favorite, but my American appetite craves for kebabs whenever the chance arises. Service is as friendly as you'd expect at 1AM on weekends (I'm certainly surprised with how well they deal with rowdy 18yr-olds). I've actually had their food at a reasonable hour and can confirm that it's still as fried, coma-inducing, and averagely delicious as you remember. Thanks for the good times, Rooster House, those yellow styrofoam boxes will sure be missed.
