What was so impressive to us was the academic ranking nationally among the students, their maturity, self confidence and strong biblical world view. Add to that the personalized attention by every member of the staff and passion for teaching children we see in the Teachers and staff. I believe they are second to none. Both of my boys have excelled at the school and have a maturity and confidence we don't see in many of their peers who attend public schools. I went to public school and even substituted in local public schools. This school is night and day different. Stonebridge teaches differently and is very non apologetic about their biblical worldview approach and how they teach Christian Self Government. These are principles that don't and won't get taught in public school. Not only have I been over to ALL of my teacher's homes, I've prayed with them, and they have prayed for me. I've had teachers and parents reach out to me asking for prayer and for help. This doesn't happen in public schools. I also see how the parents are involved in this school. You have to be apart and you are to partner WITH the school to instill these principles into your child life. The school will help with direction, but they desire that you and them partner together to make learning fun and educational. Many parents show up for "special" days at school. I've never seen so much parent involvement and every classroom has a "room parent" where we have been invited over to their house for cookouts. They create facebook forums for us to discuss homework and also prayer requests for the children and faculty. Not only do parents help out in the classroom, but last summer we had a "work day" at the school and countless number of parents showed up to paint and help out around the school. Can you imagine that? Parents who are paying private school tuition willing to show up and WORK at a school for FREE. That's how much parents believe in this place. So We have been at the school for 5 years now and not only that, but I have substituted at ALL grade levels. I can't speak highly enough about the attitude of the kids. I have subbed in public schools and you WILL NOT find students who treat adults the same way. Also the students seem to be very close to each other. They go on trips together from when they are small all the way through their "senior trip". This school has also scored the highest score in the country with their seniors the last 2 years in a row for having a "biblical worldview". My wife and I both work in Greenbrier and were driving back and forth to Stonebridge. We both love the school so much that we decided to sell our house and move down the street from Stonebridge. Stonebridge has become a family away from family. We have invested in it and believe in it. It may not be for everyone and is it perfect? NO....Nothing is. But if you're looking for a solid education that is founded in biblical principles, a place for your child to make meaningful and long lasting relationships in life, a place where teachers really care and parents are involved, a place for you as parents to plug in and make many life long friendships; Then Stonebridge is the place for you.

My only side eye is the ventilation while in the gym during game time. It is super stuffy. Especially the higher you sit up. So be mindful if you attend during this time. Basketball season usually takes place between Nov - Feb. Parking is pretty good. I have never had an issue. Basketball season is in progress right now and games usually take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Catch one, two or three to support local high school sports! Have fun and enjoy life :)

I went to Smithfield and graduated in 2010. Isle of Wight is a relatively safe area but there were…read morea TON of fights. My freshman year we had locker/car/body searches at least six times. Students were throwing weed on the roof, pushing razors to the ground, and hiding their cigarettes under trash cans. Despite the bad apples there were also good ones. Smithfield was lucky to have a large number of amazing, caring, giving, independent thinking, and honest teachers for their students. The variety of culture these teachers brought to Smithfield was great as a student for me. I enjoyed nearly every one I had and keep in touch with a few over Facebook now that I have graduated. The lunches were honestly okay; they had a sandwich line, home food, pizza line, and international line. The price in Isle of Wight was quite the jump from Portsmouth where I came from.. 2.55 vs 1.25 for lunch. My ABSOLUTE favorite thing about Smithfield was their special education program. Through this program the students enrolled were able to work at the 'Snack shack' where they sold students goodies face to face. That builds social interaction skills, job value, and math with the money handling. They also baked cookies and sold coffee/goods to the teachers during the morning. The teachers would get their items delivered directly to the classroom. Even as a young teen I thought this was an awesome educational tool for those with learning and intellectual disabilities. I hope the program hasn't changed much; Smithfield was lucky in having Ms Gwaltney on their team. I have a learning disabled cousin who really could have benefited from this type of training while in high school. The school was kept pretty clean, bathrooms stocked. Was not a huge fan of the 4-5 minute class change time. The freshmen have general core classes upstairs and have to run across the school to get to their other classes, which can cause them to build up tardies. I believe the school should be more lenient with freshmen and do a checks/balances of their schedule to ensure they aren't zigzagging up and down the stairs and to and from one side of the building to the other. The buses were horrible and bus drivers didn't do much to fix negative situations. There was racial tension on my bus to the point that the Caucasian students had to carpool to and from school because other students were physically beating, bullying, and harassing them every day. The schools did nothing to intervene, punish, or stop it. One case went to court and I had actually began carrying a tape recorder on me that was used as evidence. The studies were very SOL focused which is a shame because there is so much more to education than passing a test. The teachers did what they had to do and I place no blame with them. Overall attending Smithfield High was okay. I would have rather gone here than anywhere else in the area.. except Windsor High; I believe I would have liked it there. I haven't been back since 2012 for my brother's graduation so I am not sure how much it has changed.
