I'm happy Zippy's Restaurant decided to open in Hilo several years ago because along with them came Napoleon's Bakery. I sure do enjoy a slice of their Lilikoi chiffon cake or a delicious flaky pastry crust Napple turnover. Either an apple or coconut with my Kona coffee!

This review is for malasadas only, but they are amazing!! Hot, fresh, melt in your mouth deliciousness. Worth going into the mall and waiting for them to be made.

I've died and gone to bakery heaven lol. I love love love Napoleon's Bakery specially for their apple pie with equal and pumpkin pie with equal. The only thing that I was a little bummed out about was that this location was so far away from the Kona side and they only had the apple pie with equal and not the pumpkin pie with equal. The price was reasonable at $14 per pie. Overall, I love this chain and will be visiting the Maui location tomorrow :)

    So fresh and hot!!!

Malasadas made to order in 6 minutes tops! Doesn't get better than that!! Choose either filled or sugar coated... Or both!! Cream puffs are also super yummy!! Friendly staff, no complaints here!

The pastries are fresh. The malasadas are made to order. A good choice also for the bread pudding.

Service is absolutely the worst in all of Hawaii. Pastries are so so. Certainly not worth putting up with the poor service

We were craving malasadas and decided to try this place. Liked the truck on the side of the road way better than these.

Our high school club chose to eat here to support a local business for our end-of-year celebration,…read morebut the experience was unfortunately very stressful for our students and staff. We spent two and a half months planning this event. My club treasurer and I confirmed the price on seven different occasions--five times over the phone and twice in person. Each time, we were quoted just over $600 with about a $110 in tips, which we paid in full two days before the party. However, the day before the event, we were told there was a miscalculation and we needed to pay another $400. Because our students had only fundraised the amount we were originally quoted, we had to remove two people from our party and downgrade our menu which did not include drinks anymore. We requested to bring our own drinks due to the last-minute budget change, but we were told we could "only bring alcohol and no outside sodas and juices." It was disappointing that this was the only accommodation offered to a group of high school students. During the party, we also encountered several cleanliness issues. We found hair in the food and cockroaches in the rice, as well as on the walls and near the buffet area. I am totally not joking about the food; I was shocked by what we saw. The servers were very polite and apologized when we let them know, but it was a major concern for us. I understand that accidents happen, but this was a very difficult situation for our club after so much careful planning. Personally, I will not be eating here again for a long time.

I'm really glad I checked, the day I had planned to visit the shop downtown, what time they closed,…read moreand I'm glad I checked at 2:45, since the answer is: 3. I'm also glad I happened to be a couple blocks away at that time, cause it would've stunk if I'd missed out! They have a whole range of great chocolates, from 55-90 percent that were all great, a fantastic matcha chocolate, great dried fruit chocolates, and one very good, *very* spicy dark chocolate (I loved it enough to buy a bar, but much more so than most pepper chocolates I've had, it does *not* play around.) Definitely also loved that they had samples of basically everything they sell. Also loved, we learned, it was actually the chocolatier himself running the shop when we were there, so all our questions were being answered directly from the source. It also worked out in that they didn't actually *have* any bars of the spicy chocolate out, as he'd just made a new batch and hadn't packaged them yet, so when he learned we were leaving the next day, he pressed one for me right then and there! How's that for great service?

Since it was hot and we were traveling by car, we opted for the cacao nibs and THEY ARE INCREDIBLE. We had them on ice cream paired with molten lava cake and I'm still thinking (drooling) about it. Lots of options for gifts and the staff will make great recommendations.

On Oahu I've spent like $70 for 3 ppl at a delicatessen. We got hot dog sushi, spam musubi, garlic chicken, nori chicken, veg tempura, shrimp tempura and I think something else. It was all good but I will say I was surprised that the shrimp was like 2" including the tail.

12 hours in Hilo: Stop #1 Hilo Lunch Shop. Traveling with family for a cousin's funeral in Hilo…read more After landing at the airport and picking up the rental car, our first stop was to Hilo Lunch Shop- an okazuya. Just about a block north of the airport complex on Kalanikoa Street, there was a good amount of parking on a Saturday. HLS is hugely popular, usually the line snakes out of the building on work days. Today the line still stretched out in a lazy C to the second door into the shop. Shuffling through the line, I had a lot of time to check out the food. Struck by how reasonable the prices were. Got up to the head of the line and ordered. Paid and went outside to enjoy my food. Saw that the reason for good prices is that some of the portions like the spam musubi were for a half a musubi. But my eyes were bigger than my opu, and I had a lot to take as leftovers anyway. HLS's food is tasty and reasonable. How great is it to see another old-time okayzuya continue to survive! Will repeat whenever my travels bring me back to Hilo, and highly recommend!
