Went twice and loved it both times. Initially, the new restaurant piqued my curiosity because, back in Moscow, I had a distant aunt, Irena, who was born in Baku and was an excellent cook. I fondly remember visiting her flat as a child and enjoying elaborate, lovingly prepared meals. That was my own experience, albeit vicarious, with Baku, but it was enough to make me decide I must try NAR. One time, I went with my son, who liked it so much that he plans to bring his GF next time they both visit the area. I will go for the third time with a friend in July (who happens to be a very picky eater, but she took a careful look at the menu and liked it) and her husband. Although both times I went, we had a party of only two, and next time it will be a party of three, I did witness large parties of 12 or more who were clearly enjoying themselves. An excellent restaurant that serves amazing authentic Caucasus cuisine (Predominantly Azerbaijan) and elevated, clean, classy aesthetic. "Nar" means "pomegranate", which is the theme of the restaurant. There is a beautiful mural of pomegranate tree which sets the tone of the restaurant. I am sure this fruit has a cultural connotation in the culture. Came here for lunch with my team, so we were able to try a bunch of different dishes. They have two options for lunch: you can do a pre-fix (one appetizer, one salad/soup, one entree) but everyone on the table needs to opt for this option OR you can order a la carte. We went with pre-fix: I went with eggplant rolls for appetizer (this is EXQUISITE, my favorite dish of the lot. I am not a fan of eggplant, and the rolls taste predominantly of garlic and herbs). For salad, I ordered the watermelon salad - quite refreshing for summer time. For the main course, I opted for Chicken Lule Kebab (this was a full meal, came with rice and salad, the kebab was juicy, but I couldn't finish the rice, the quantity is a lot). For the table, we ordered Kachapuri (cheese filled bread shaped like a. boat - this was really and recommend to order if sharing and have it while its hot), Suzme (flavored yogurt dip - pretty good, served with bread), Mangal (mostly tasted like eggplant, served with bread). For desserts, we ordered Honey Cake (2nd favorite dish out of all, loved it) and Pakhlava. For wine, we ordered kindzmarauli (fruity wine) and saperavi (red wine) for the table. A month ago; my coteacher; Ms.Chinara told me about this new Azeri restaurant. I had light dinner that night with a friend. Tonight; I invited 3 coteachers (Ms.Chinara,Ms.Rouba, and Ms.Betsy). We had appetizer sampler set. Everything were delicious. In house breads were good. The star of the night is "3 Nations Grilled Meats: Ground chicken kababs with lambs fats, ground lamb kababs, grilled ribeyes (extra $40 but it's worth it), grilled chickens thighs, and lamb chops! I had unsweetened ice tea and hot Turkish coffee! They have coke, Americano coffee and black tea too. We didn't try pomegranate wine tonight. But a month ago I did try. It was very light and smooth with (acidic from pomegranates). I'm not a big wines person. But i did like their Azeri pomegranate wine ! Had a great 4-star lunch at Nar, a Georgian spot offering a prix fixe menu. The eggplant appetizer was flavorful, the lentil soup was good and the lamb chops were cooked nicely with good seasoning. Azerbaijan food, ya know I'm gonna stamp my culinary passport! Never had this cuisine and I actually had to look up where this small country lies. It is next to Armenia and somewhat in the general area between Turkey and Iran. And ya know what, the food does share lots of traits from those other countries as well. As food usually blends and influences countries next to each other, that is an anthropological fact. Very charming spot with fine dining vibes, table cloth and napkins, nice silverware and plateware. But the diners are typical Cali casual just in everyday clothes and just having a good time with one another. They even have a cute little retail area up front, where it looks like an artisan food shop with homemade pickles and jams and some deep imported food goods. Dolmas ($15/4*) I think we tried this because we had never tried a dolma filled with meat. Usually the ones I've had only had rice wrapped in those grape leaves. This was a ground beef and rice mix that was subtly spiced and quite tasty. Everything was warm even the grape leaves which made them more supple and soft versus tough and fiber-y. This was different enough that I thought that it should have a different name than 'dolmas'. But excellent try. Piti ($28/3.5*) This wasn't my dish but I did try a little sample. This is kinda like a home-y dish where they usually make a lamb stew with chick peas and bake it in an oven in a clay pot. Here I found the presentation to be quite unique as they put a single serving of this lamb stew in a clay cup and they bring that with a shallow bowl of homemade croutons (not the buttery type). Then you're supposed to dump the contents of the cup into the shallow bowl, right on top of the croutons. So if you let it sit for a bit, the croutons will soften from the liquid and one can eat it as they please. You can wait just a tad so the croutons still have some bite, or you can wait til the croutons get totally soft and absorbed. Kinda like how one eats cereal or how one likes to put crackers into their soup, you have to know how to do you. I did find the lamb to be very tender but I also felt that it was very mildly seasoned, bordering on bland-ish. The stewing liquid is also very light and not thickened at all, so to me it was more of a soup with big chunks than it was a stew. The chickpeas did give it more substance and there were also big hunks of chestnuts, which I thought was the culture's stamp on the dish, as I've never seen anything like that before. I am curious to see other versions of this dish to see other styles/preferences. Lule Kebab ($27/4.5*) I am a kebab fiend and usually will try any cultures version. This is a ground lamb version so I had to give it a whirl. I've had Turkish, Persian, Afghan, Lebanese and Pakistani versions but this is my first try of a Lule which the Armenians also have. I did like the flavor and texture. Quite lamb-y and grilled nice with noticeable char. The spicing is definitely more mild than Afghan and Pakistani, but somewhat similar to Persian. But I really love the Persian version so that is still in my tops, but that is totally preference. Served with a nice mixed green salad with a light vinaigrette, a very thin flat bread, and baby roasted potatoes. Usually I see ground meat kebabs served with rice, so this was another twist that I observed from this culture. I think this is the kind of place that you need to visit more than once, as there are so many things I wanted to try. But for those that wants their taste buds to travel, let this be an option. We were excited to celebrate my husband's birthday with family here, eastern European restaurants are hard to find. We arrived as they opened, the entrance to the parking lot is narrow and long besides the building, you enter alongside the front of the restaurant, and it curls around towards the back. They were able to seat us right away. The restaurant is nicely decorated, and the bigger lights turn on as the sun goes down. I appreciated the quiet we got as the first few tables, because the open dining room got noisy as the room filled up. The complementary bread was hot and crispy. I saved my piece because I thought maybe some of our food would come with some yummy sauce, but they didn't, everything was dry. It would have been better if they left the water at the table to self serve, but you have to wait for them to come around to refill your little cups. The Shah Plov is quite different from other plov, it's a drier long grain rice, maybe basmati, and it's baked in a shell with some fruits on the bottom. The rice was cooked fine, but the meat in this plov was incredibly dry and tough. The portion was large, this plate had more than enough rice to feed our table of four with the rest of the entrees. I give this 3/5 The lule kabob was amazing, and it was probably the only thing I would come back for. The meat was fatty and seasoned well, cooked medium-well. The onion salad was a good complement. The only thing I would improve was that there was 2.5 baby potatoes on the plate, and then a sad lavash. If there was more potatoes, or the lavash was on the side so it didn't get soggy under the salad, I would enjoy it more. 5/5 The ciz biz is highly regarded on yelp, and my mother-in-law was adamant that we get it. If not for this I think we would have got the mixed grill and been much happier for it. We do love liver though, so it isn't a matter of disliking liver. The ciz biz comes out on a thin grill plate, with onions and potatoes. It could have used more seasoning and some form of fat. It was dry and sad. 1/5 The Saj chicken also comes out on a thin grill plate, and is usually cooked under a weight that results in crispy, juicy chicken. This followed the same as the other meats on the table, with being dry, overcooked, and sad. The chicken is accompanied by tomatoes, mushrooms, potatoes. 1/5. (I recommend the saj chicken at Bevri instead.) This particular kachapuri was too sour for my taste, but I don't hold that against them, the bread was cooked through and the bottom was crispy. 3/5 I'm not sure if they were having an off night, I was hoping for better. This was recently a Chinese restaurant and has been nicely remodeled with an upscale contemporary table and chair setup interior. There is parking that wraps around the building. I ordered the Ciz Biz (pronounced Ch) lunch plate along with the suggested bread. Service was helpful, attentive and good. The bread loaf came first and was very long (could feed 4). It was a little chewy but soft and good. The Ciz Biz (beef liver slices with potato cubes and some grilled onions) is good if you like liver and the onions. Be sure to ask for more onions because the flavor and sweetness accompanies the liver well. Great place for liver and onions lovers. It's repeatable. read more

My first time trying Azerbaijani food, which, from my first impressions, share styles from Georgian and Mediterranean cuisine across various aspects, but still a bit different to have a varied experience! I went here for a team dinner as a party of 10, and we were well taken care of. Some of the dishes I got to try were - Gurza (Azerbaijani dumplings) - the meat filling is a bit chewy, reminds me closest to a Khinkali which makes sense as both Azerbaijan and Georgia are within the Caucasus region - Dolma - rice and beef wrapped in grape leaves - delicious, but also you can find this in other adjacent cuisines - Ciz biz (sizzling beef liver) - apparently a delicacy. I am not a fan but some teammates really love this dish - I liked how flavorful it was, but not the texture. To each their own - Three nations grill platter - shah plov is a lavash wrapped rice baked with beef. Beef was dry but the rice - wow, so flavorful. That is the only miss. The lamb and chicken they served was so juicy and succulent - generous portions of meat that even though they say the plate serves 4, it serves 4 and you will be very stuffed with minimal room for anything else - Caucasus pakhlava - it is like a baklava, but it is chewier and has more syrup soaked in. Tiny pieces but super filling I also tried some wines - the qvevri ones that are more Georgian but nice pairing. Just note it is on the drier side. And pomegranate wine that is a bit tangy and drinks like juice with a decent amount of alcohol. Definitely recommend giving this place a try. A teammate went here 5 times in a week during their business trip, and I had an enjoyable experience, and you don't really find this type of cuisine in the US often, so it is worth a detour. read more

I have eaten here three times and each time was excellent. The first was for a party of 14 for a retirement dinner and I met with the owner and selected all the courses ahead of time, family style. We had multiple orders of the Nar Plate, fresh bread, eggplant rolls (he gave us on the house) and Georgian red wine to share. The main course was multiple orders of the large Three Nations Platter that included a rice dish, Shah Plov. For dessert, we had enough orders of Caucasus Pakhlava and Honey Cake with tea for every person to share. Some guests also took some food leftover for home. All 14 people enjoyed the high quality and even better was the fact that they had never had authentic Caucasus food. Everyone wanted to come back with their families to try the menu again. The service and waitstaff are excellent. My second and third visits were for lunch with my family and also visiting friends and we had smaller versions of my party of 14 and also tried the Khachapuri (cheese boat in bread). Each time the quality remained high. The owner, Hikmat, maintains a high standard that shows itself in the food. It was sublime! read more

Back in the day this used to be Haopi House. Then it was a very regional Chinese place which region unfortunately slips my mind. It is now a place that serves the cuisines of the Caucuses. This type of food is pretty hard to find around these parts. I've had Uzbek, Russian Kurdish and Georgian which seems to have some crossovers and similarities and those are just as hard to find. Super cool that this has opened where most of the new stuff is Chinese and Indian (& to that extent I've learned a lot about those cuisines but I'm hoping it doesn't homogenize in only those!). We had sone dumplings which remind me of the Uzbek Manty, and a grilled liver/onion/potato dish which Also exists in Uzbek circles. Finally the honey cake reminded me of something I had at 20th century cafe in San Francisco which was "Russian" (which means it could be from a lot of places) in origin. Everything was delicious. The service was friendly but seemed a bit nervous. Also not everything on the menu is available just yet as they're still soft open. I think in a month or so this will be super solid. I first discovered this restaurant when I saw that they replaced the space of Amber Cafe. Initially, I didn't give them much thought but then after passing by the restaurant several times as it's right by my apartment, I looked them up and saw that they were Azerbaijani cuisine. I always have an extra desire to go to a restaurant representing a cuisine that I have never tried and as such, I decided to visit with my parents. We shared several items including the eggplant roll, hummus, the eggplant and lentil soups, the gurza, the lule kebab, and piti. Azerbaijan is a country that sits right near Turkey and Iran, which makes perfect sense because the best way I can describe Azerbaijan cuisine is a hybrid of the other two. The eggplant roll was phenomenal, which truly surprised me as I am usually not the biggest fan of eggplant. The gurza was pretty nice and reminded me of the traditional Turkish manti ravioli only more dumpling-like. The soups, kebab and hummus were also pretty tasty. I need to say that I am fairly picky about hummus as I make my own pretty well but theirs was very well balanced and flavorful. The piti was a little disappointing. It honestly seemed like a dish that would have blown me away as its comprised of so many of my favorite ingredients such as lamb and chickpeas but the broth was quite bland. I've noticed that other Yelpers have mentioned the same critique so I'm honestly not sure if it's intentionally meant to be that way. In all honesty, I would have probably given this place a perfect rating of five stars if it weren't for this one item. The honey cake at the end was excellent and a great way to wrap up the meal. Their wine list was interesting as it featured wines from the region and surrounding areas. I always appreciate restaurants that go the extra mile to have their beverage program represent their cuisine to provide a true regional experience. Apparently some of the wines traditionally use clay plots as a part of the fermentation process. I personally didn't have any but I tasted a little from my parents and it was surprisingly pretty good for a relatively unknown wine region. I feel fairly petty on the fact that I am knocking off a star simply because one dish wasn't that impressive but unfortunately, five stars for me means a flawless experience. Nevertheless I am really happy to see an underrepresented cuisine featured here in Mountain View. The food was great, my friend actually exclaimed "Wow!" after tasting eggplant rolls. Also NAR plate was interesting and every component was very tasty. The tea served in a pot is absolutely perfect. The portions are substantial. Tips: If you are a tea drinker, order the tea pot even before the meal. The cuisine here is a mix of Azerbaijani and Georgian and even some Ukranian (Honey cake). If you are unfamiliar with it order lula kebab - it will provide you with more familiar taste while being authentic Azerbaijani dish. Do not order Ciz Biz unless you know what you are doing. We were seated right away and the dining room filled up quickly. Our waitress was a lovely young woman who was very patient with us as we caught up and kept delaying ordering. At her suggestion, we ordered the Shah Plov. In addition we ordered a pot of fresh mint tea, a vegetarian dish (Ajapsandal) and an appetizer (Gurza). The $12 pot of tea arrived first and was a hint of mint. When we looked inside the pot we found a single stem of mint lying in the mesh basket of the pot. That explained why it tasted like hot water with a hint of mint. When we asked for another pot with more mint, there was an air of offense from the staff. They eventually brought out another pot with more mint in the basket, but it was not muddled and the tea remained very week tasting, but stronger than the first try. At some point, we noticed that all the tables around us were brought bread baskets, however, we were never offered one. I see from other reviews that the bread was complimentary, but we did not get any. While waiting for our appetizer to come out, our waitress arrived with our meal. When we asked where our appetizer was, she told us we didn't order one. We ordered one and she had not put the order in when we were ordering. She argued with us that we did not order an appetizer. I definitely ordered it and my friend heard me. At that point, it was too late because our meal was there and we didn't need an appetizer any more. The Ajapsandal was delicious. The Shah Plov was not. It did not look anything like the pictures you can see on the menu online. In the online pictures, the Shah Plov is like a small cake with a golden brown crispy crust. Ours was flat, square, white, and stuffed with more rice than any other ingredients. In addition it was dry and had very little flavor. The meat and fruits were stuffed into one corner of the disaster that was presented to us, so the first two-thirds were rice and chewy lavish. The three small cubes of beef were grey, dry and tough. There were more prunes than beef. The chestnuts were mealy and tasted horrible. The lavish was chewy, not crispy. For this we had the pleasure of paying $32. I found it inedible. My dinner companion ate the rice, but not much more. When the waitress came and asked if we wanted a box, I told her no, that we found the dish dry and not edible. The response was to bring us two tiny (1") pieces of Baklava on the house. All in all, this is a one and done for us. It was not worth the $90 (including tip) that we paid. read more

5/5 I stopped by for the first time today and was genuinely impressed. It's great to find a place that serves Azerbaijani and Caucasian cuisine with this level of quality. I ordered the Cizbiz, which is a dish of liver and potatoes fried together in a pan, and it was delicious. The liver was tender, the potatoes were perfectly crispy--overall a very satisfying plate. For dessert, I tried the Malaga Cake, and it was the perfect way to finish the meal. Soft, creamy, and with a light banana flavor, it exceeded my expectations. We came on Valentine's Day 2026 to try Caucasian cuisine, and the restaurant was packed. Since it was a special occasion, a fixed holiday menu was offered. There were three of us--mom and two daughters--and each of us received a rose at the table, which truly lifted our spirits. We ordered dishes from the Valentine's menu and loved every item. The quinoa salad was delicious, and the lamb shank with mashed potatoes was cooked to perfect tenderness. (Just one small note: the mashed potatoes could have been a bit more buttery for an even richer flavor.) The Caucasian-style black tea served in an armut (a traditional Kavkaz glass) tasted wonderful . We also enjoyed the skewers of watermelon cubes with baby mozzarella, as well as the skewers of cooked eggplant with cherry tomatoes. All the dishes were beautifully presented, and the atmosphere was lovely and welcoming. Our dinner was very pleasant. The staff were attentive and caring--thank you all! We did not regret coming and will definitely return to try other menu items. read more

This hidden gem has been masked by Jaques en la Boques's gross shadow this whole 2 years I've been living in Mountain View and I gotta say....man the food was on fleek (my slangs do not define me shush). The water was clean, the vibe was clean, and the whole place was clean! What I remember most about the restaurant..."A timeless symbol of life, abundance and connection its roots deep in heritage, its branches reaching across generations" ... this was the mural in the back wall that I've stared at for a good two hours, not saying the service is slow but be prepared to learn a valuable lesson. Their food is amazing, everything we tried was very flavorful. I am not a big fan of eggplant but their eggplant dishes blew my mind from the wallnut wrapped eggplant to the eggplant salad. The best dish was the bead with cheese and eggs and the basdirma drilled beef read more

Visited today with friends for lunch. What a nice new place! I'm originally from Tbilisi, Georgia, Caucasus and I cook a lot of traditional Georgian and Armenian dishes. It's rare to find a tasty cultural place like this, that serves great food from all parts of Caucasus (check the menu and photos) and wine (they have great Georgian and Armenian wines), and at the same time is cozy and welcoming. Great service! Nar translates as Pomegranate, which in Caucasus symbolizes life, love, passion, abundance, prosperity, endurance, and fertility! We came tonight for a fancy dinner, and the experience was amazing. I haven't had cuisine quite like this in my time living in the South Bay, and I highly recommend coming here to experience the lovely atmosphere and delicious fresh bread. The owner himself spends a lot of time in the dining room chatting with diners, and I can tell he cares a lot about providing an awesome dining experience for anyone who comes here.
