The person I'm with is a huge anime fan so when we were looking for places to eat, of course we had to stop through just based off the name alone. The restaurant is nice but it is a tight squeeze. There is sitting around the grill so you can good look at them cooking and preparing the meals. Our waitress was sweet and seated us as soon as we walked in. I ordered the fried chicken platter with curry and with fried rice ($3 up charge) instead of white rice and a can of ginger ale. The food came out fast but they gave me white rice instead of the fried rice. It's all good. The platter was delicious! It is a little pricy but I highly recommend visiting this place for lunch. read more

I went for lunch and got the lunch special which is basically a regular dish/ priced ramen bowl and if you add $3 on top you get a app (which is an option of fried rice, gyoza, chicken teriyaki bowl or chicken curry bowl). I opted to get the chicken teriyaki bowl. Honestly so not worth it. It was literally a little bowl of rice with a few pieces of chicken. Could've skipped this. I also ordered the miso ramen. While the ramen is bouncy and cooked well, the toppings were just so lacking. I felt it was just a very minimal cheap portion. I barely got any bamboo shoots. And I opted for chicken instead of pork. And sadly the chicken was quite dry. Overall for $20 lunch meal it was so not worth it. I wouldn't be craving ramen anymore! read more

This is a cute little hidden gem, a small shop and it seems to be always busy. They have a list outside for you to put your name and get called, I went with my friend so we were seated quickly. Inside it's a bar style seating, and of course with the name like Naruto, they had to have pictures of Sufi anime (if you are familiar) alongside other anime posters (Japanese cartoons). They also have hooks for your coats/purses which is super convenient! They have slow music with the lights to medium so it's not super bright but not super low (so probably not the best romantic spot) . The host that greeted us was nice, she showed us our seats in a friendly manner. They have the tangible menus, and pretty easy to follow along, which is nice because I feel like food menus can get overwhelming sometimes. I got the original Naruto ramen and for an extra cost, I added a few more things so you do have that option if you like some ingredients more than others. I did get some chili oil and got charged extra for that which I found weird because every other ramen spot I've been to, usually the spices are there for your convenience at no extra charge, it wasn't a lot more (only $1) but still, I only needed a little bit so I had a little container of chili oil left over lol. For drinks they have Japanese sodas, and coke products as well, as for alcohol, they have beer. The bowl is pretty generous and the ramen is delish, the price is on the higher end but that's in the normal scale for NYC prices. The place is chill and clean, the food is really good and the staff is nice. The place is super narrow and had only about 15 seats total. The hostess was very friendly. I ordered the Naruto ramen and made it spicy with chicken not pork. You poor Upper East Siders standing in line to eat at this Naruto don't know that the Upper West Side has a much better Naruto. Yesterday, I got the Cilantro Bomb at this Naruto. Absolutely no taste, I had to send it back. When I got it back, it was ok, but not as bomb as the one on UWS. One time I ate Cilantro Bomb three times in one week on UWS. Do yourself a favor and go to UWS for Cilantro Bomb, tastebuds awakened for life. The Tom Yum Gyoza is pretty good though, lots of flavor. Get the pork one. Its focuse is on Ramen and a few appetizers, and some entrees. We decided to started with takoyaki. The octopus was tender, the dough was a little mushy but overall good starter. We then got to watch the sous chefs prepare our Ramen with craft from behind the counter. Shortly we were served the hot bowls of Ramen! The noodles had a nice chew, the char siu was balanced with right amount of fat and meat. It was tender with 1/2 of soft boiled soy sauce egg. My broth was spicy Naruto and it was with depth and just right amount of spicy kick. Fair size bowl just enough for one. The bill came out to be around $40 with tax not including tip. Whenever we walked past this place, there was always a lot of people waiting outside of the restaurant. We were craving something warm today again, so we decided to eat some ramen. We didn't have to check in with a host/hostess because all you need to do to put your name down is write your name on the clipboard. We went for dinner on the weekend and the wait only took about 10-15 minutes. We were seated soon afterwards. I got the Tan-tan Ramen and the broth was rich/delicious. The noodles were chewy and they gave a very generous portion. I loved how there was a spicy kick to it because it unlocked all of my tastebuds. The server was very nice and took our orders when we were ready pretty quickly. The ambiance was alright...just a bit cramped because the venue is pretty small. The "Naruto" part of Naruto Ramen is actually the ingredient, however they play a lot of anime theme songs and there are lots of Naruto-themed pictures throughout the restaurant. I had the Miso Ramen, which include a generous serving of noodles, two pieces of chashu, and some butter among other things. For $15 this is definitely one of the more affordable ramen places in Manhattan, and I'd definitely recommend it for a neighbourhood joint. It's not the best ramen I've had, but again good value for what you get here. Service is good. I'd recommend for someone who lives nearby, but for tourists I wouldn't tell them to go out of their way for here. read more

I have been coming to Naruto Ramen for years! But, it's been awhile since I visited Naruto Ramen and we were craving This is one of my favorite ramen places in NYC. I got the signature Naruto Ramen - Bamboo shoots, fish cake, egg, seaweed and pork chashu It was so delicious! The noodles were perfect and the broth was the best. Really great pork! I have passed by this Ramen shop on the express bus since high school and I've always wanted to try out the ramen here! I've heard really great things about it, and when I saw the waiting list outside my expectations, rose with excitement. We were called in about 20 minutes on a Sunday night so we didn't wait too long. They have indoor and outdoor seating so that certainly helped we were seated inside and when we walked in anime music flooded the shop, which I loved because I'm a dork and know almost all of it. Ambience and atmosphere got a check in my book. Inside is pretty tight since it's a small hole in the wall but the sign outside definitely makes it stand out. The staff was one of the kinder stuff I've come across at restaurants in general, even when the girl next to me spilled all her water on the floor. They were so genuinely sweet! As for the ramen, I ordered the original Naruto ramen and was pleasantly happy with the pork. Sometimes ramen shops will only give you super inedible fatty pieces of pork but I had 2 decent pieces. As for the broth, it was just okay. The flavors didn't exactly punch but it was pretty good. Flavor wise is this spot my favorite? No. But I'd it a great spot in the Upper East Side to grab some ramen for the future winter months ahead oh most definitely. Don't come here expecting a lot as it is a "sit at the bar, eat and go" kind of spot. But waiting for your food while listening to anime music is a whole freaking vibe. I have been to this ramen shop few times already but I'm assuming they changed their chief or management so ramen and soup base tasted so different now compared to 3-4 years ago. Their soup wasn't cooked with bones for hours like other local shop, I'm assuming it's from a central kitchen and they just buy as wholesale. Doesn't taste good anymore. Their appetizer, fried chicken, was the only tasty item but way too salty. And their service was not the best and not sure why they only check in with the customer toward the end of the dining and they don't offer nor provide any red pepper or fried garlic dressing anymore. It's small so I understand why there might be waitlist sign-up outside. However, on a Saturday at noon, there was only 1 other person there with me. No issues with noise. Service (5/5): Again since I was one of two, I was serviced quickly and often. Food: Naruto Ramen (3/5): The 2 charsu pieces were a bit small, while tender was not like a fatty marbleized cut. It was good but not amazing. Only half of a seasoned egg. The dish was topping heavy which I enjoyed. The broth was soy-based so it was salty but it lacked the umami that one would enjoy in pork or chicken-based soups. It wasn't savory enough for me! It's an anime themes ramen restaurant with an anime playlist and different artwork. I didn't take a photo of the inside but it is a narrow space as you're just seated at a bar right in front of the kitchen. However, outdoor seating or takeout is an option too! I prefer watching the process of the cooking as it's quite interesting! The servers are really kind and enthusiastic. Even though it's a face paced eatery, the workers make it look like such a smooth process. I came here on a weekend afternoon and there wasn't much of a wait. As for the food, I ordered the Miso Ramen and Cheesy Pork Gyoza (forgot to take a photo). Starting with the cheesy gyoza, it was steamed and very soft. I thought the cheese was an interesting addition. I was however expecting it to be crunchier but the steamed version is nice too. Didn't leave a single piece of cheese or dumpling behind. Solid 9/10 The ramen itself, I was kind of expecting more. I think the broth could've used just a little more flavor, and the eggs were a bit over cooked than typical ramen eggs. The roast pork pieces were really tender which I liked. The noodles were also still a bit chewy but not too noticeable. The portion size however was great! I definitely was full after just 3/4 of the bowl and I'd come back here and recommend if you're looking for a quick bite (especially in this colder weather). read more

We've been to the shop and ordered for delivery many times. The food is consistently tasty. We usually get the Mega Naruto, and getting double the toppings is worth it for the price. We just save the leftovers for later. The broth is lovely. The food is always packed securely & never spills in delivery, which I super appreciate! Both kinds of gyoza are delicious. The Tom yum flavor gyoza is only mildly spicy but lots of flavors. I can't speak to that version of the ramen. The pork fried rice is nice & sometimes comes with crispy bits, which I love. Re-heats really well, too, which is a treat for a rice dish. I think they probably pre-cook/pre-refrigerate before frying. I've also had the chashu curry on occasion, which I enjoyed. I love the cozy atmosphere inside, and by that I mean teeny tiny. There's just enough room for one person to walk past the bar stools to the restroom when someone is seated, which can be a tad annoying when people walk in while you're leaving--which is always. The place busy from about 5:30/6 pm on, but if you come a little earlier for dinner, 4:30/5, you're in the sweet spot. I love the bar seating and being able to watch the chefs cooking from your seat. Outdoor seating is set up nicely--covered area, space heaters and lots of room. Comfortable into mid fall/early spring. If you don't like tight spaces, definitely plan to eat outside. There's typically a shorter line for outdoor seating, in my experience, but only 4-5 tables that seat 4-6. Groups will probably want to go for outdoor too. Enjoy! read more

NYC Ramen has this predicament of either being really authentic and spot on with ramen made craftfully, or being not so authentic and tasting more like Chinese noodles/broth. NARUTO RAMEN After growing up having eaten tons of Chinese soup noodles and then being a ramen/Japanese food lover i can taste the difference between them which may not be as easy for those where both cultures are equally foreign. Let me just say that it the broth and chashiu pork tasted very -Chinese-. The pork reminded me of the cold Chinese bbq meats and not the tender, fatty chashiu of Japanese ramen. The broth had a meaty flavor but was lacking in depth and reminds me of Chinese beef pulled noodle broth, that sort of brown translucent quality. The noodles were chewy and nice, though but nothing extraordinary TOM YUM RAMEN this was def better, and interesting fusion dish, fresh veggies - def the better choice. Hearty, warm sour and salty Tom yum broth. If I were to return def would get this or try their birria ramen (limited) but again these are interesting fusion dishes rather than amazing Japanese ramen. GYOZA Just around the same fast and quality as your typical sushi spot's gyoza With other great options like tonchin, Momosan, minca and now marufuku it's hard to see myself coming back to this spot unfortunately. We also ordered the Black Edamame and Echigo Flying IPA. The ramen was not bad, but nothing too memorable. The beer was great and it came with an aluminum cup which was nice for keeping it cold. The biggest issue we had was with the edamame. On the menu, it mentioned the edamame was made with black soy beans. We thought, "Okay, this is something new. Let's try it." We get the edamame and it was green. Regular. Normal. For $5. When the check came, it also said Black Edamame on the receipt. We felt slighted to say the least by this false advertisement. read more
