Dr. Nathan Ho saved my life. A few months back, I returned from a 4-day hike in Iceland (Laugavegur Trail) and proceeded to my previously-scheduled appointment with Dr. Ho. Coincidentally, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law are patients of Dr. Ho. My appointment was made through a referral from my primary care provider (Dr. Dustin Riley) after I was kicked out of a Renown Reno Cardiology appointment thanks to a mutual service fee "pissing match" with my United Health Care service provider. And in hindsight, thank God they did. I had a minor heart attack in 2014 and had previously self reported to my previous Cardiologists (starting at John Muir in Walnut Creek) about "chest tightness" during exercise and was advised that this was not unexpected and that I should continue to monitor my symptoms. All during that time, I made regular appointments including taking the associated stress tests and continued to self-report any symptoms. I informed Dr. Ho about this and added that the strenuous Iceland hike had exacerbated my chest tightness during those 4 days. Dr. Ho expressed concern about this and strongly suggested I take an angiogram and soon. I did so a few weeks later, and figured it was all routine and right up to the time I recovered from the anesthesia after the procedure. Image my surprise when I was then told that I had 95% blockage in my "widow maker" artery. Triple Bypass surgery was scheduled within the week, which would have been sooner if it wasn't for the blood thinners I was taking. That operation went well, with the surgeon (Dr. Todd Chapman) emphasizing later that "he fixed me". I recently moved to Carson City and needed to find a local interventional cardiologist. Since I have a real problem with the Widow-maker area of my heart, I clearly have to practice proactive self-care, see savvy MD's, follow Rx for medications, exercise daily and have a good diet... but I have some "white coat" anxiety that I deal with using mindful breathing... I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Ho in a reasonable timeframe. The welcoming crew in the cardiology office was friendly and efficient, and I found Dr Ho is a very kind, experienced and intelligent cardiologist. My first appt. with Dr. Ho was extremely positive. He listened very attentively to my concerns about traditional pharmaceuticals and my desire to pursue more natural solutions to my health issues. I was truly impressed with Dr. Ho's compassionate approach and his encouragement of some positive choices in my health journey. I am envisioning a great partnership between Dr. Ho, a highly respected cardiologist, and myself. Many physicians are not as oriented toward cooperative efforts, like Dr. Ho is.
