I did turn off my ringer so it wouldn't bother anyone else. The hot pool was magnificent I loved it. I loved how hot the water was. And that textiles were optional, after living in Europe. I loved the lounging area after coming out of the hot pool and feeling like a million dollars as my heart rate slowed down. The shared outdoor pool was just meh. I got a little chilly lying out and got a mosquito bite so reverted back to the private area again. Overall- I'd go back for the private pool. I could leave the big one.

Our first experience with the McCauley Hot Springs in Jemez Springs was so fun that we decided to…read morefind another one in Colorado near Pagosa Springs. I mean, who wants to pay $74 a day to splash around hot water with hundreds of other people? After some googling, we figured we'd try this spot after whitewater rafting. This place is kinda interesting in that it's literally right on the Piedra River, but it's along a section of the river where the hot springs bubble up so you're literally in the river blocked off by man-made dams that you can adjust and/or make new pools by yourself. So if you're headed west out of Pagosa Springs, it's about a 17 mile drive on US 160. You'll pass the turnoff for Chimney Rock on your left (south). US 160 will go north, and you'll see a clearing with some cabins advertising for pinon nuts and a brown sign indicating a turnoff for First Fork Road on your right. You'll want to turn in here. First Fork Road is also known as Piedra Road and Forest Service Route 622. You'll pass a bunch of cabins and camping sites, and the road will be a gravel/washboard/dirt kind of road. It's actually pretty well maintained. It is a little narrow at times with a very steep dropoff, so just be a little careful when you're driving on it. I drove my rental Jetta, and it was entirely fine, but it's probably awful in the winter. You'll take it for 6.7 miles, and you'll come upon a sign on your right with an intersection for Monument Park Road to your right and a parking area for the Sheep Creek Trailhead on your left. You'll want to park in the parking area and take the Sheep Creek Trailhead. Apparently, the signs tell you to register, but all the papers were filled. You would think that they would come around and refresh the papers, but I guess not. The trail starts off easy, but then becomes a bunch of switchbacks and then a very steep descent. You'll be climbing down 800 feet in about 3/4s of a mile. There are places where the trail has been modified or an old part of the trail been closed off, but they're easily discernible. Just make sure you keep to the right every time there's a possible fork. You'll hit a sign about fishing lures and then an open meadow. Take the fork to the right, and it'll cut across the meadow and follow the river upstream. You'll then hit another fork where the trail goes right upwards and another fork that goes down towards the river. Take the upwards right fork. You'll walk about another 3/4s of a mile and you'll enter another clearing after several obvious campsites. Walk towards the river at this point, and you'll see to your left the springs on the banks of the river. I think there must be several other pools upstream from the clearing as we heard voices from there, but we didn't go exploring. The pools are about 100 degrees and they're pretty shallow. I think it's interesting because you can feel the hot water and then you can also feel the cold water from the Piedra River coming in and you can adjust the temperature utilizing the rocks. It's pretty brackish though because there's a lot of silt. In the muddy areas, the mud is super hot too. Apparently clothing is optional, but as there was a bunch of people camping out, there was no skinny dipping this time. ;) I think it's pretty cool when you're sitting in the pool, that you're eye level with the rest of the river...and believe me, the Piedra River is pretty fast this time of the year. Be careful once you get back on the road when you're leaving, especially at sunset. The sun hits your car windshield at such an angle during the red dirt switchback that you won't be able to see very well. And especially with the narrow road and dropoff, it could be a disaster. Lucky for me, he jerked the wheel in time because apparently I was precariously close to the edge. Oops.

Being evacuated, she also bought us a couple of beers , very thoughtful. Motel SoCo was very friendly and helpful accommodating with our dogs and gave us a discount on the price. These are all the advantages of living in a small community.

The location is extremely convenient to downtown, and the amenities are comfortable, clean, and have the rooms have a fun mountain charm. The onsite El Camino lounge serves up reasonably priced and well executed bar food and drinks. They had some great musical acts during my stay and I really enjoyed hanging out with the friendly staff and locals. Checkout SOCO the next time you're looking to come to Pagosa or Wolf Creek. I can't wait to come back during the warmer months and I will definitely stay again....

As it turned out, even with a full house this property was perfect for all. 6 adults and 5 kids. This property met or exceeded any expectations we may have had. Three showers, two tubs and exceptional closet space. The master closet is the size of a small bedroom, and we were able to organize each child's belongings on separate shelves. Hot water was plentiful, as were all kitchen utensils. The larger family style table was perfect for family dinners. The dishwasher and washer and dryer worked well. And as a bonus there is a second dryer in the garage. So we were able to dry wet snow suits and wet bathing suits without having to track snow in the house. Bedrooms were comfortable and the hot tub was a bonus. Pagosa Springs Paradise is perfect for any family, small or large. We rate this property as exceptional.

Use what they provided) to everything in the kitchen to make all your meals. We had the 1 bed room pet friendly cabin so no oven but a 2 burner stove. One burner didn't work but we only cooked breakfast and only needed 1 so we were fine. Our porch light was out the first night and they came to replace within 5 minutes if that. The grounds are kept beautifully and even when someone else let their dog roam free and they pooped by our car, we picked it up so it didn't take away from the beautiful landscape. I felt so calm, peaceful and serene. Did I mention all the SNOW! Lol No issues at all with check in (4p) or check out (11a). It's right down the road from the stores, dispensaries, and shops --all were open but the restaurants were doing take out only. Not a biggie since the pandemic we didn't want to be around other ppl anyways lol The gas fireplace kept it nice and cozy and ppl kept the noise down, it was vacant til Friday when we saw a lot more ppl but when we checked in on Thursday it was only another family there so it was very quiet. Overall, we are very pleased with Fireside and will be back!

Wolf Creek historically gets the most snow in Colorado. If Pacific moisture collides with the rare Gulf moisture - watch out. A three foot dump is common. Well beyond the big, corporate resorts, Pagosa has remoteness nearby that is all its own. Lesser known gems are to be discovered, like Rainbow Springs and various points along the Piedra River and the largely uninhabited Hinsdale County. They are locales for the visitor to find on their own, since residents might prefer some places largely undiscovered by the masses to remain so. Club Wyndham is another jewel. Yep, I said it. Having stayed her twice for extended stretches, I like the place. It is quite simple, but spread out - perhaps the development was overbuilt back in the day - but you have ample territory to yourself. While the golf course (ran by another entity, I think) might need greening up, it would be convenient and is right out the door. Here's where this place really wins. The units are impeccably clean and well appointed. And if you need something else, the staff are on it. More Lavazza coffee? Sure. Another request? No problem. Most people would probably celebrate the price, so low, it's practically free. All in all, an impressive experience in value and service provided where there are quite limited lodging options. Would return.
