I had a very disappointing experience with this insurance company. Communication was poor, and getting answers to simple questions took multiple calls and emails. When I needed assistance, representatives were either unavailable and did not return phone calls. When I tried escalating to the appropriate mangers, they did not return calls after repeated attempts. As such my car repairs have been delayed for over 3 weeks now and still not resolved/approved. Customer service is especially important when dealing with insurance, and unfortunately this company fell short of my expectations. Based on my experience, I would not recommend them to others looking for responsive and reliable service. read more

I have had them for several years with no problems. Our agent was great but as soon as we filed a claim and had to deal with the claims department it all went to crap. They don't respond to calls or emails. They finally sent their inspector to look at the vehicle damage then lowballed the amount they were willing to pay. After 2 weeks of trying to contact them (with Honda also trying) I got a one line email stating they issued payment to Honda. Only Honda never got the money. We've spent over a month trying to resolve a simple reimbursement caused by an accident involving their insured. Despite following every step of their process, submitting all receipts and documentation, and calling daily, we were ignored, lied to, and spoken to with complete disrespect. Their adjuster, Eric Fouts, repeatedly failed to return calls, hung up after placing us on hold for 40+ minutes, and was shockingly rude when he finally did respond. He refused to escalate the issue or provide a supervisor's name. One of our own employees who spoke to him was appalled by how disrespectfully he treated her -- we even have the call recordingto prove it. We submitted: A $1,704 receipt for required re-lettering of a new work van A tow bill Both were ignored or sent to the wrong address. To make matters worse, the claims portal we were required to use was suddenly shut down, wiping out all of our submitted documents and history. This feels like an intentional move to avoid accountability -- and from our experience, it sure looks like they're covering their tracks. We've now been forced to consider: Hiring legal counsel Subrogating the claim to our own insurer Filing formal complaints with the Department of Insurance and consumer protection agencies This is not how insurance is supposed to work. I had National General for one year--home and auto--and I can honestly say my only decent experience with this company was when I didn't have to speak with them. After getting into an accident in August, that had to change. Filing the claim was easy enough, done online, and that was where the ease and convenience ended. My Adjuster, Nita Love, at first would only correspond via email or vague text message. When I asked for a direct phone line to reach her, she ignored the requests multiple times. The initial repairs were completed, and I hoped to be done with NGIC. One more issue was discovered by the dealership's service shop, and they submitted a request for supplemental work on a Wednesday [Day 1]. Nita didn't acknowledge the request until Monday [Day 5], at which time, she said she would pass it along to the supplement department for review--24-48 review period. I called her on Thursday[Day 9] and she had no update. When I called on Friday[Day 10] and got the same answer, I asked for someone from that department's information so I could reach out myself. I was, again, ignored. When I called the next Monday[Day 13] for an update, she didn't answer her phone. Same for Tuesday and Wednesday. I left voicemails that were never returned. Finally on Thursday [Day 16], I called the general number and asked for Nita's supervisor by the agent working. I was given a name and number, but Nita's supervisor would be out of the office until the next week. When the supervisor got back to me, things finally started moving along. But incorrectly. The supplemental work was approved ( as my car had been in the shop for two weeks at this point exhausting my rental car allowed for this claim, I was paying out of pocket). Unfortunately, they addressed the supplemental check to the body shop rather than the dealership's repair shop and mailed it off. When I finally got ahold of Nita, she said we would have to wait as long as it took for the body shop to receive the check, decline it, and notify NGIC that it was declined. Nita's supervisor understood how frustrating and unnecessarily drawn out this entire process had been and offered the alternative solution (that she did not suggest) of cancelling the check to the body shop and e-paying the supplemental payment to me, as I had finally had no choice but to go and pick up my car and pay out of pocket for the repairs to avoid having to pay for a rental another day. The accident was on August 16th, and I wasn't paid the final supplement until November 18th. The lengthy process was not due to extensive repair time nor parts. It was due to neglect and poor customer service by NGIC. I was so turned off by the entire experience that I switched insurance the second I was able to. Customer service is practically nonexistent. Previously for online access,you couldn't have more than one policy per log in. Each one required a different user ID. That was annoying, but tolerable. I received this email responding to my request: "Please note, your agent/agency advised you correctly. The only way we could cancel due to duplicate coverage is if the policy with the other carrier has an effective date is the same day or predates the effective date with Beyond Floods. I was in an accident on the 6th of March and one of their customers T-boned me. He came speeding towards the light before it changed and hit me without attempting to change course. Later we found out that it was not his vehicle, he did not even have a driver's license, and he either falsified his name or he is not registered in america. The claims process was hell on earth. They also sited me as at fault though I did not hit any car. They did automatic withdrawal from our account. September 2025, the withdrew over $800 from our checking account. We called and asked, why so high. They said, my daughter was unlicensed. On March 22, 2025, while on my way to visit my 86-year-old father, I was hit by an uninsured driver who ran a red light. Police officers, firefighters, and EMTs arrived at the scene, and the police report confirmed that the accident was entirely the other driver's fault. My car was totaled, and I sustained several physical injuries. I went to the emergency room for evaluation and then followed a months-long course of chiropractic treatment. I filed a claim through my insurance company, National General, and the experience was a nightmare. I had to work with two separate departments--one handling my vehicle damage and the other managing my bodily injury claim. The department responsible for my car was responsive, professional, and empathetic. However, the department handling my physical injuries was horrendous. Sam Frederick, the Bodily Injury Claims Representative, created one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had with any insurance company. His lack of empathy, failure to return calls or emails, and consistently unprofessional, condescending tone made an already difficult situation even worse. I frequently had to escalate my concerns and contact his supervisor just to get a response. His initial estimates for my injury, pain, and suffering were unreasonably low, forcing me to repeatedly provide documentation and evidence to justify the extent of my trauma and ongoing pain. Needless to say, I canceled my policy after the claim was finally settled. Agreed to $220/month in March 2025. Within a month, they changed it to $289 because I forgot to submit proof of residency (even though I told them I had no way to prove that because I don't pay bills and would be moving back in with my parents soon) After that, they offered to accept my paystub address and ID address as proof of residency - but this time they forced me to add both parents as excluded drivers at $35/month each. They also added my old temporary roommate at $35/month. This made it $346. I agreed because I'm a full-time student and I work full-time and didn't have time to deal with it. I emailed them a little over a month ago (from my student email on accident) asking to have my old temporary roommate removed as an excluded driver as I lived with my parents now and provided all necessary documents for everyone living in the house, as well as the requested proof of residency. They responded to my student email (not the email listed on my account) saying that I had until 7/29/25 to send a NOTARIZED letter stating that my old roommate did not move to my parent's house with me as well or else they would raise my rates again (or drop me). I go to pay my bill on 7/31/2025 and realize I now owe $538 for the month!!! $192 more than my original rate... all because I asked (and forgot to send a notarized response) for them to remove an excluded driver I don't live with... who I am still paying for. Extremely gross, predatory and delusional. The representatives I have spoken with multiple times on the phone did not mention ONE TIME that I needed to send a notarized letter for ANYTHING. Terrible! I had a high-pressure sales person talked me into a temporary policy. It was supposed to cancel after the trial. If I did not renew. I did not renew. Years later I realized they had me doing an automatic draft from my checking account. I never received any correspondence from them at all. And part it was my fault and my banks fault because I direct bank draft only shows up under transactions. We no longer get paper statements. I paid for it for years had no idea, and it was worthless and there was no refund. Never give them your checking account number. The policy is worthless, unless you die or lose a limb. Their "field claims representative" conveniently left out obvious, visible damage to my vehicle and then tried to pass off a lowball estimate using cheap aftermarket or recycled parts in place of proper OEM parts. OEM parts were on my vehicle before the accident, and OEM parts are necessary to restore my vehicle to its pre-loss condition. Their justification? OEM parts are. not covered under the policy. This is not only irrelevant (this is a liability claim) but also blatantly misleading. Insurers don't offer OEM coverage for third-party claims; they just don't want to pay for quality parts. Their entire strategy is clear: delay, deny, and devalue. They push heavily for the "supplemental" repair process after intentionally lowballing the repair estimate. This shady tactic gives them two easy outs. If the full extent of the damage is revealed through supplements, they can quickly declare the vehicle a total loss, not to protect you, but to avoid paying the full cost of proper repairs. However, more often, they're banking on you giving up, accepting a cash payout based on their incomplete, manipulated estimate, which doesn't come close to covering the actual damage. Either way, they win by cutting costs, and you lose by being left with a vehicle that's either devalued or unrepaired. It's a calculated, predatory move executed with zero concern for fairness, safety, or the customer they're supposed to support. The cherry on top? The only actions they took, like reimbursing me for a rental or replacing damaged car seats, were done after I filed an official complaint. They didn't act out of integrity or accountability. They acted out of damage control. Their own timeline proves it. By far, National General has been the worst insurance experience I've ever had. I hit a deer at 2:50 AM on March 7th and filed my claim at 9:04 AM the same day. By 9:12 AM, Copart was already contacting the body shop trying to pick up my vehicle, claiming it was a total loss--without a proper assessment. Since then, I've been stuck in a frustrating loop of misinformation from, Darlene Marcy. She originally stated that if the body shop stated there would be no supplement needed they would not total out my cehicle. Despite following all instructions and complying with everything asked, my vehicle is still being totaled out. To make matters worse, they are severely undervaluing my vehicle--by $4,000 to $5,000. The "comparable" vehicles used to justify their low payout all have 20,000 to 30,000 more miles than mine and aren't even available for sale at dealerships. When I asked for my case to be escalated, it was passed to Christopher Kuzak. He called me briefly on Tuesday, said he'd follow up later that day, and I haven't heard from him since--despite multiple emails and voicemails. This entire process has been nothing short of a nightmare. I would never recommend National General to anyone and have also filed a formal complaint with the Georgia Insurance Commissioner regarding their conduct. read more

This company is a TOTAL SCAM! They have a federal government case against them right now!!! In 2021 the pipes in my entire house froze and burst. My mortgage company Hope Federal Credit Union picked National General Insurance to be my home insurance carrier. I have been paying insurance since I bought my home in 2011. Anyway, I informed the insurance company of the damage and after awhile they finally agreed to pay the plumbing contractor for the pipes. After they were "finished" they told me that would not fix the pipes in my tub or shows because the insurance company didn't pay them for that. So, I haven't been able to bathe in my home since 2022. Secondly, but most importantly there was major damage to my crawlspace because of the water leakage from my pipes. I informed the insurance company and Hope loss/draft department of the damage, the insurance company handler of my claim Maria Peguese told me to get estimates I would get the estimates and she told me she would reach out to me and I waited for months and finally called and was told the estimates were outdated. So,I had to get estimates AGAIN!!! This kept happening over and over, and I went got estimates again this year. Maria denied the claim on the basis I was " negligent " when ALL I HAVE DONE WAS DO WHAT SHE TOLD ME TO DO and then waited on the insurance company to do their part. But they kept stalling me and now blame for being "negligent " I contacted Hope and they told me there was NOTHING they could do despite the fact THEY picked that insurance company!!! So, I recently had a bronchial attack and was told I should stay away from the source of the mold that caused the attack...MY HOME! So, basically, I cannot live in the home I have been paying mortgage on 14 years. The house is falling apart one side of my house is leaning and tearing the inside of my home up. The ceilings, walls, doors, windows, foundation and nearly everything thing in the house is cracking or not working properly. I have never filed an insurance claim before this so I did not know what they were doing was out of normal procedures. I looked the insurance company up and found out this how poorly National General company claims are handled. All I know is I did my part as claimant and they stalled and stalled now they are blaming the damages on me! My mortgage company is not helping!!!
