They don't do any maintaince to fix anything at all of their overhead poles. Ive asked and they just dont fox anything. Ive got a stripped insulation wire where it nears the pole and my neighors or verizon stole my backyard above the garage for overhead wires. Very bad. Everyone complains about the prices, but that is squarely on New York State - the worst government in the U.S. Even the ultra-left Brennan Center at NYU said it is number 1 for corruption. So, it is not fair to blame National Grid or Con Ed for all the price increases - that's mostly woke politicians who know nothing about energy - noth-ing. Since they sold company to the UK, prices doubling. Smart meters are horrible. My bill went from on average to 190 a month to 640 dollars, im told they estimate my bill from last year. Impossible, my bill was 240 last year this year 640 dollars, i bill was over 1,000 dollars. They put me on a budget plan without me knowing after i told them 2 years ago to never do that again, cause first time i didn't know they put me on one either. Only way i find out was on a plan was got a bill in the bill and it said i cancelled i would owe 860 dollars, i was on the plan for only a week. They put my on dec 5th, i called them dec 9th when i get the notice in the mail. Talked to 2 people who didn't know what they were talking about, told me i had a smart meter i do not i had them take it out cause as soon as they put it in my bill went higher. They told me i sign up for budget plan i did not,told me i sign for it i told them to send me the paper that i sign they could not. 3 days later i got a call from someone higher up who told me that i was doubled charge for 3 months ( never was fixed) i am paying off a bill i was doubled charged for so they don't turn off my electric i have a baby can't let that happen. Told meter was over active still nothing has been done about that. Told that someone messed up and try to fix it in the system but they couldn't. In the system said i had a smart meter i did not, so how waas my meter being read correctly?? After being told all of this nothing was done. They refuse to send me this sign paper i "signed" for a budget plan that i did not. If i had another electric company to go to i would change in a heart beat. I've never had a problem with national grid last year when they sold out to the UK.. So we are paying another country for our electric, wrong. read more

I have been trying to get them to fix a power line pole's extra wire assault on my house for over 20 years. Many promises to do it so.eday but they never do. Villians. Theres a wire attached to the wood of their pole that goes over my backyard touching trees and near my garafe chimney. Its so high theres a risk of electrical arcing into my garage. After having an issue with a vacant property showing high usage, we called to have the meter checked. Evidently someone went and "read" the meter. Nobody called us to say whether anyone had gone to the property, or what was found, other than the meter reading (duh, I could see that). customer service reps are totally clueless. After calling again and requesting someone meet us at the property to discuss what could possibly be causing the 'smart' meter to read high usage at a vacant property with breakers all off or pulled from the box and a history of nearly zero usage, we were given a date and 4 hour time window and told someone would call. We never received a call, have no idea if anyone showed up at the property or not and once again customer service is clueless. I have called numerous times and every time I am told someone went to the property but can take up to 30 days for a report on what was (or wasn't) found. But meanwhile I am still supposed to pay this high bill. Very odd that I cannot get anyone to call me back, but yet as soon as the bill was a day past due I receive multiple automated calls, texts and emails telling me the bill is past due. HORRIBLE COMPANY TO DEAL WITH. We have been a customer for over 25 years and currently own multiple properties that rely on this monopoly of a company for electric service. Customer service is clueless. You'll be on hold with these people for an hour and then randomly they'll just hang up. They change the due date on you so you'll default on a payment. Just randomly change the due dates. When you think your bill is due the same day each month, it's not. Then after setting you up on a payment plan, they're still calling me at 8:20 on my only day off to tell me i defaulted when I already talked to them last week because they did this again this month. I paid it early just to be on hold again for them to tell me. Oh they apologize. Yes that I'm right. My next payment isn't due until December but then I get another call this morning telling me I defaulted again. It's like they don't keep notes. They just want to harass people for money. I have never in my adult years encountered such an incompetent company. And do not let these people take money directly out of your account because they will take it out multiple times a month. National Grid has begun covertly installing so call "Smart Meters" in people's homes. Naturally this change is intended to reduce the number of employees by allowing the company to access a home meter electronically, thereby reducing their workforce and increasing their profits. The problem was I wasn't informed they were coming to my home and the person covertly trying to swap out my existing meter didn't have any identification badge or work uniform so it could have been anyone lurking outside my kitchen window. when I asked what he was doing he said, "putting in a smart meter." I told him politely I didn't want a smart meter installed due to the concerns I read about in various literature such as AARP about signals from the meter interfering with wi-fi etc. The contractor was not a National Grid employee but a sub contractor so you can imagine the vetting process was minimal, I doubt they conduct background checks for positions at that level. I refused to let the guy install the new meter and he actually said, "well then they're going to charge you $10. more every month." Well that seems like extorsion so I'll be challenging that charge and mostly just wanted to give other people a heads-up that people lurking around your home are subcontractors of NG covertly installing "smart meters." I had to report a gas leak to get emergency service. I'm paralyzed and needed help. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Every time we get a little bit of lighting or rain our power goes out. FOR HOURS. I now have an estimated restoration time of nearly 24 hours and your customer service numbers are such a joke I've been hung up on 3 times now and can't get answers ANYWHERE. I'm from Texas where we get much stronger storms and I have NEVER experienced so many power interruptions that last so long. National Grid will elligally turn electric on in your name simply because the property is in your name without your permission. The customer service is horrible. No shared meter exists and will refuse to turn it off and keeps billing you.i would give this company a 0 if i could. Nothing but utter despair and confusion when dealing with national grid. My roommate was the account holder and apparently still is a year after moving out. No matter what I do they won't let me take the account, even after I sent proof of residence and had the original account holder call to have me added to the account. So I was never able to pay our bill. All I could do was pay from outside the account, and I never knew how much we owed. They shut us off then I had to dish out $840, after already having given them 500 just a couple months before. I don't get it. Why can't they just allow a smooth transfer of account holders like the water authority does? read more

Summer of 2018 a company called Recon came by my house and saw some dead grass out in the front yard. Turns out we had a gas leak for more than year and the dead grass was about the size of a manhole cover. They reported it to National Grid. National Grid came out several weeks later to find the leak. They dug up our front yard and finally found and fixed the leak. They dumped the dirt back in the yard and told us that landscapers would come to make our yard "pristine". Several more weeks went by and then Meyers Landscaping came and filled in some of the ruts and spread grass seed. None of the stepping stones that were destroyed were replaced. The broken slate around my husbands railroad garden were not replaced. They said they did what they were told to do. Called National grid about it several times. Last time was April 9, 2019. They said they would fix it and it might take 60 days. Today of June 10, 2019 and nothing has happened. We are now going to get the work done ourselves to fix out front yard. read more
