Not your bog standard cafe with ugly plastic or metal chairs, but beautiful solid wood furniture even the drinking glasses are gorgeous! We ordered a variety of different meals there were four of us the first day. I have special dietary needs and nothing was too much trouble. The food was all home cooked to order and came out piping hot and well presented. Two of us had the roast dinner and even as a vegetarian I could see that my partner's beef was perfectly cooked. We were even offered extra vegetables and roast potatoes that doesn't happen very often!! The beef lasagne that my 12 year old step-daughter had was very well received and she commented on how fresh it was, especially compared to a lasagne she'd had a couple of days before in a cafe up the road which was dried up and flavourless in comparison. My 16 year old step son had a lovely home made beef burger which he was very impressed with. The desserts are also a big winner with a lovely selection of sponge puddings, cakes, pies and tarts all offered with clotted cream, custard or ice cream. We enjoyed our meal immensely, the staff were friendly and attentive and happy to cater for all our needs. A few days later on our last day we went back for another meal before returning to our home town of Plymouth and again we were not disappointed a couple of us chose from the '£7 for 2 courses' lunch menu and were impressed by the choices. My fussy 5 year old son joined us all this time and loved the home made Plum Tart with custard he chose for dessert. Having spent a lot of time in Cornwall over the years and having experienced a lot of pretty mediocre meals I can honestly say The Stepping Stones is excellent value for money and the standard of cooking and the quality of ingredients used is far superior to many other local restaurants. We will definitely be returning for more in the future. In fact we were so impressed we have thought about planning a day trip to Perranporth in the future just so we can visit The Stepping Stones again! To give a balanced review, I have been scratching my head, trying to think of any negatives to add but quite simply cannot think of any. I could say it's a pity the premises is not a little bigger to accommodate more diners but I guess this would make the dining experience less cosy and personal just make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment!

I always go for a vanilla milkshake, which is delicious. I very much enjoyed the cream tea and he ploughman's that I've had in different occasions. Food tastes great and they have generous portions. Only complaint would be to have umbrellas on all the outside tables in the hot, sunny weather, as it can be too hot to sit out under the blazing sun! Although I appreciate it's not always hot and sunny: we have just been lucky when we've visited! They cafe does not have its own toilets but that is not a problem as they very clean public toilets are about a minute down the hill. The crazy golf is great! Alternatively you can chill at the Greens Cafe which is adjacent to the golf courses and take in the views up the estuary and over to Rock. There are seats inside if the weather turns or plenty of outside seating on the terrace. They sell a variety of teas and coffees, cakes and pastries and hot or cold sandwiches and it's not too expensive - try it quick before Rick Stein buys it out. I've rated it highly because on a sunny day, with the kids having fun and enjoying the views you can't beat it.

Views from the restaurant are beautiful and when the weather is nice you can chill out with drinks on the large terrace or have a great meal. The lodge is great just a chill out and have drinks if you don't want to eat but I'd recommend you do try the food. The food is brilliant from both the lunch and dinner menu. Newly open is the guest rooms so if you want to stay in the hotel you will get to enjoy the views even longer over looking the ocean. The food and drink is great value but the rooms are a little pricy but it is in a exclusive location. If you are in the area it is a must.

The stuff is friendly, however slow when comes to cleaning the tables (getting the stuff delivered to the table doesn't mean the dishes left but the previous customers will disappear). The reason, I suspect, is that the café is part of a local Christian centre and that all people working there are volunteers, so probably customer service is of secondary importance. Nevertheless, they serve decent, inexpensive food (pancakes, paninis, burgers, jacket potatoes, salads gluten free options available) along with smoothies, shakes, and flavoured coffees each served with gingerbread cookie. With only one ripping-off internet café in town it's good to know that with every meal over £2,75 you can surt internet for free here (otherwise 5p per minute).
