Visited April 2015: "Something for all Nature lovers"…read more We arrived at Aberglasney Gardens at 4pm in the evening. The ladies wanted to talk us into coming the following day because the Gardens close 6pm. They were able to locate our e-tickets. We walked past the shop, and into the House. There was an artist in residence, on the way to Ninfarium. It was so warm and toasting, compared to outside. I spent some time in there admiring the plants and the masonry. We then admired the Yew Tunnel. We are not able to go through the tunnel, but I think it would be an experience to remember. We then went to the Gatehouse, and the Cloister Garden. It appeared that it was run over with weeds, but at a second glance it appears some flowers were springing up. Next to it was the Upper Walled Garden. There was a plaque talking about issues with insects and changing the plants in the garden to compensate. Next to that are the Lower Walled Garden, the pool garden, Stream Garden, Woodland Garden, and Pigeon House wood. The pool garden looked like a nature swimming pool. The Stream garden reminded us of our childhood in the East Coast, and playing in the woods near the creek. It meshes with the Pigeon House so well that we didn't realize we were in another area. The woodland gardens didn't have many plants or flowers due to the seedlings not sprouting up yet. I could visualize the final production being stunning. It would be a sight I wish I could see. We then walked to the Sunken Garden and the Holiday Cottages. The sunken garden had an amazing center piece that was similar to the gardens we saw at Hampton Court Palace. We then walked past the Pool Garden and the Cloister Garden to get to the Aviary. There weren't any birds present, so we walked on to the Alpinum. The flowers were in bloom, and the view was incredible. These two gardens were connected to the Bishop Rudd's Walk, and Asiatic Garden. The Bishop Rudd's Walk had steps and several other flowers in bloom. The Asiatic Garden reminded me of the Chinese, Japanize Gardens I've visited. The entire garden was so serene, tranquil, and good for the soul.

The gardens, of which there are many, are absolutely beautiful and well worth walking around. The Ninfarium is a lovely addition and has been very tastefully done. There are always craft stalls within the house and in December there is a Christmas fair which, although very busy, is a fantastic day out with a lovely selection of the finest arts and crafts the area has to offer (with a Christmas theme!) You'll also earn yourself a free mince pie and some mulled wine! During spring/summer they often have performances in the garden. Catherine Jenkins has previously sung at the gardens. Finally, after a long walk around the garden you should definitely stop in the cafe for some lunch or even just some coffee and cake. Everything is absolutly delicious!

The botanical gardens are just a small part of what makes up the entirety of Singleton Park…read more Singleton Park is an excellent park. It cascades down the hill from Sketty down to Oystermouth Road (basically the sea). It's large, sprawling and esoteric. There's a small stonehenge-y bit near the top by Uplands, there's the botanical gardens which are detailed and intricate, there's massive expanses of pure green grass looking over Swansea Bay, and towards the bottom there is the play area complete with lake, pedal boats and pubs. There are more features that roll along the vast swathes of greenery that I'll leave you to discover yourself. This park has everything really, and bags of personality. Big events are staged here in the summer too - I saw Motorhead here when I was 15, but they also host big dance music events which get very messy (in the way that people who enjoy dance music like). A beautiful place full of surprises. Take a stroll and see which side of Singleton Park you like best.

I liked seeing the coffee plants best - I drink coffee every day but never knew what the plant looked like! I sometimes go there just to take photos, especially of the tame squirrels - they will take food from your hand if you are patient. Once or twice I've seen robins and chaffinches taking food held out on someone's palm too.
