I have been here several times now and always enjoy. During the winter months they have re-done the woodland/bog boardwalk, a magical place, if you are lucky you can see the deer and white cattle grazing from here. This takes you round by the mill pond where you can see dragonflies and the swallows swooping down in the summer. The water mill house is at the end and a choice of walks from there. Up to the right into woods , down by the mill & on to another lake , left is through another wood or you can follow the main path which takes you along to the field & up to the castle. It is quite a steep walk but well worth it. There are seats which are very useful stopping points to get your breath back and admire the views. The bluebells are spectacular this year in the castle woods, as are the views from the castle which you can walk around the walls of. There are some rather narrow steep stairs up though !!!!! If you don't want to walk up the steep hill there is an easier route from the road by Newton house . There is also Disabled parking up by the castle. On the track from the house the old groundsmen site has been converted into toilets and a children's play area. Further down another building which has been used to show art & historical things. There is also an Ice House to see if you walk up by Newton House. In all there are 800 acres to explore. read more
