Super easy to purchase tickets online online which I highly advise. You can also buy in person but I didn't want to run the chance of it being sold out. I also recommend getting the first booking at 10. We showed up at 9:30 knowing there was limited parking. You can always walk around to kill time. The scenery is just breathtaking. The tickets get you a tour inside Beatrix's Hill top house. Original furnishings and de orations transport you back. The place feels so cozy. My favorite was the parkour. National trust guides answer all your questions. Impressive to see it's pretty much still a working farm. So thankful for her vision of conserving the land.

Therefore, visiting her house was surreal and gorgeous, as her village and home looked similar to how it must've looked hundreds or years ago. For 12€, you can go in Beatrix's garden and home, which has all of her furniture and special belongings on display. The Peter Rabbit books started when she began writing little stories to her godson and those original letters were just sitting on a desk in the cottage. I couldn't believe we could see those and they weren't even under glass. There is also a beautiful dollhouse in one of the rooms that she made and then wrote about it (the book about it is in the room too). Her garden is absolutely gorgeous and we loved wandering around the tiny village. There were rolling green hills and blue skies for miles. So special!

Holker Hall is such an enjoyable home to visit with less of these people barriers that most of…read morethese type of homes have so you really get the feeling of being a part of the house rather than just someone who has paid some money to look in form a distance. There are also lovely large gardens for a walk with little surprises appearing from time to time. The guides are all so friendly and helpful and to get the most from the trip find a question to ask in every room - even if it is simply so what is particularly special about this room - it is then that you hear all the little funny interesting stories of the house.

Cornishead Priory has a rich history , particularly if you're interested in religion. With a foundation of Christianity to a modern age of Buddhism, there's so much to learn from this amazing area. A beautiful temple alongside a majestic church , this environment just gives an aura of peace. I'd definitely recommend staying for the 15 minute meditation , especially to wind down. When we went, it was national heritage Day so we received a brilliant tour of the area and it's history. Despite it raining, the weather didn't impact the day at all! The people are extremely friendly and helpful in regards to any questions. There's also a warm cafe in the corner, and a beach just a 5 minute walk away! Definitely worth a visit!

Take time to look at the temple too. Different from the usual churches! There is a gift shop as well, with some unusual items. Some are Buddhist related, but many aren't. You might just find that holiday memento with a difference. The Conservatory Cafe serves lunchtime food, snacks and drinks. It has a sister cafe - The World Peace Cafe in Ulverston itself. You can stay ovenight too, if you can get booked! Even if you're not a Buddhist, this is well worth a visit. It's a magical place. xx

We were thirsty for much more history than was given but what was given was great. Eleanor was a born story teller and there is so much more to this history than was given. You'd be silly to come all the way to Lancaster without seeing the castle!…read more The castle is still a working court and prison, but you can take tours there seven days a week if you head around back (near the requisite gift shop.) The keep dates to the 12th century and the history of the castle is very interesting. The guides are well informed and fun to listen to, and there are events here throughout the year. When you finish, it's worth heading out front, putting the castle at your back and taking a walk down the street towards town. On the right, you'll see a sign for the Nice Cafe, and inside that building is the tourism office, which always has more info on things to see locally. If you go a few feet further and look left, you will find the Merchant's Pub, one of the oldest and coolest pubs in town. Grab a burger and a pint and enjoy their patio!

It's 100 ft tall and has a spiral staircase inside, which you can climb to get amazing 360 degree views of the bay, 'the Lakes' and the rest of the area. The Hoad Monument is normally open during the summer months when a flag is flying outside the monument. It is however currently undergoing restoration with the Friends of the Sir John Barrow Monument collecting grants and donations for this task. Ulverston Towns Lands Trust owns both the monument and Hoad Hill. The easiest way to get to the Hoad is up Town Bank Rd; out of town, then turn right down Chittery Lane. when it appears to hit a t-junction, turn left. a footpath runs from the end of the lane to the Hoad. Another steeper way is to park in Booths carpark (I didn't say that). Cross the road at the roundabout, and turn right up hill, then take the next left, Hoad Lane. At the end of the lane a path brings you back on yourself, diagonally up the hill. The monument is the first thing that you see of Ulverston when coming from East or West. it is often lit up at night.
