I had a wonderful vegetarian lunch that was delicious and my husband had a salad with some really good smoked salmon. A lovely place to look at art and have lunch.

The museum has an impressive permanent collection (pieces by Picasso, Dalí, Duchamp, Matisse, etc.). When we visited last week, I was really blown away by an exhibit made up of works from their permanent collection: "Pink Sails: Swedish Modernism in the Moderna Museet Collection." I wasn't familiar with too many Swedish artists, so it was a pleasure to explore this exhibit and experience art that was new to me! The museum is open late (until 8pm on Tuesdays and Fridays), which was great for us - it let us tag on a visit to the museum at the end of a full day of touristing around Gamla Stan. The museum is gorgeous, very modern, with a great gift shop, cafe, and restaurant. A really beautiful museum and well worth visiting if you're interested in modern and contemporary art.

The museum takes you back in time to late 19th century and strikes its visitors with opulence and glitter of the rich aristocratic family. Impressive collection of paintings, furniture, China, and weaponry is displayed in rooms of grand nature decorated in various styles. An window into a private life of aristocracy! It's free to attend, but you would have to pay 70 SEK for a guided tour. Tour will also get you an access into certain rooms closed for general public.

Construction took twelve years, from 1911 to 1923. Nearly eight million dark red bricks were used. The Blue Room was supposed to be covered with blue marble, but the designer liked the bricks so much, the marble brick facade was never installed. The staircase to the organ and the balconies are made from a beautiful green marble from Sweden. The floor is a light grey limestone, and the columns are made from a red and green marble from Sweden The Golden Room has walls that are covered with more than 18 million pieces of gold and glass mosaic, created by the artist Einar Forseth. The mosaics contain approximately 18 kilograms (40 lbs) of 23.5-carat gold leaf. As of today, that's 2.25 million US dollars worth of gold. The mosaics represent the history of Sweden, as well as Swedish values. It's hard to describe what this banquet room for the Nobel Prize winners look like, so I recommend viewing the photos I've attached, or better yet, go to the City Hall's website and view this movie: https://stadshuset.stockholm/stadshuset-play/stadshusets-salar-en-digital-visning-av-stadshuset/. It's in Swedish, but you'll get the idea. A visit to a City Hall sounds boring, and many times it is. However, this is WELL worth a visit, when you are in Stockholm. I promise you will be impressed.

We reserved a…read moretour of the interior and purchased tickets that allow us to climb up to the top of the tower for the views. But the architecture of city hall? Incredible. Completed in 1923, it seems so much older. And each space in City Hall is so different, with different architectural styles, inspirations, and decor. This is the kind of building you buy books about. A 45-minute tour just isn't long enough! If they had a two hour tour, I'd have taken it. They release the tickets either the week of or the week before, but they still fill out. The tour groups are large, which limits the spaces you can see, but I'm still so glad we were able to get tickets for a tour of this amazing building! You learn about the building, the architect, the building's connection to the Nobel Prize...! And it's just incredibly stunning, too. One of the highlights of our time in Stockholm.

We spent quite a good time looking through the Viking exhibit. She had loaned me a Viking book to read during my stay which I did during my down time. With the reading and the visiting, we had a great week of discovery! We spent so much time just in the Viking exhibit this day, that we ran out of time to visit the rest of the museum. Currently, admission is free for children and 180 SEK per adult. My husband and I visited this museum one time. We walked through an exhibition of Swedish history from the 1100s through the 1900s. I learned about Sweden becoming Christian, about the monarchy of Gustav Vasa, and much more. Then we viewed the Gold Room, which showcased gold collars from the Migration Period, silver pendants from the Viking Age, and reliquaries from the Middle Ages. Overall, I think that this museum is worth visiting if you want to learn about Swedish history.

We…read morefinally decided to check out Skansen two days before midsummer, mildly apprehensive about the entrance fee since we still couldn't figure out what Skansen was about, but we hoped there would be midsummer decorations. There was confusion about the train route and after speaking to the gate agent, skipped the extra fee for the train to go up the hill. We were here to walk. At first glance, Skansen is a living museum of how things were done in the olden days, replete with actors. There were no midsummer decorations, though I was told the main thing was the may pole, which we had already seen erected on another archipelago. A delightful surprise was the animal farm (with an almost free roaming peacock) and the Nordic animal zoo. This accidental stumble on animals (bears, bison, reindeer, etc) was my favorite part of Skansen. Overall a neat place to spend an afternoon. Would recommend!

Not that you'll find crazy rides but there's entertainment for kids with some rides, plus not to mention the lounging areas, the animals, and so much more. Came here walking from our hotel , you can catch a bus, and it was just beautiful. I highly recommend a visit. This can be an almost all day thing or just come for a few hours like we didn't.

This museum went over Swedens entire military history with models, visuals, and so much historical artifacts! It was such an amazing place and extremely cheap compared to other museums I've been too! Overall worth every penny! Wouldn't recommend brining young kids to this, as some parts and displays can be a bit graphic, but young adults and adults will love it!

The palace itself is large but the open parts don't take that long to go through, so getting a detailed verbal history helped a lot. The palace interior is beautiful and has a lot of interesting history, and the palace gardens and grounds are nice for a nature walk. Entering the palace and getting the tour aren't super expensive and are worth the price, but I around to a little annoying that there's so many little add on charges to see the other parts - specifically the Chinese pavilion and the theater.

We took a Stromma boat tour that took us from Stockholm out to the palace and back (with a two-hour block for exploring the palace and its grounds). The interior and the grounds are beautiful, and we enjoyed our two hours of exploring. The tour is self-guided, so you can wander at your own pace. With a charming cafe at the palace, I wish we'd had a little more than two hours, so we didn't have to choose between time at the cafe and continuing to explore the grounds! I recommend getting a guide book to the palace or using the audio guide, because there aren't many signs explaining about the history or architecture of the palace, but the rooms you can tour are beautiful, and the grounds are lovely, too. Overall, I highly recommend visiting the palace, whether by boat or by car if you have one while you're visiting Stockholm!
