The associate who manages the cosmetic department and was store manager for the day presents as condescending and rude. A person in front of the check out line was returning incense that they had purchased stating the smell was over powering and triggered allergies, and they were sensitive to smells. The associate made several comments after receiving this information, such has "what kind of reaction?" "That doesn't sound right that is one of our best selling items", on and on. It was difficult to overhear due to the condescending nature of the comments, and caused a significant wait for those in line when the associate could've just said, "sorry it didn't work out" and left it at that. read more

This is our favorite Natural Grocers Store. We make it a point to go every year when we are visiting Flagstaff even though we do have Natural Grocers here in Las Vegas. For some reason, this store just has a really special vibe and lots great little Christmas options for gifting hat they don't have by us. I'm sure we can get the natural candy canes by us and, we can definitely get Dandies marshmallows but it's part of our tradition to get the here on our Christmas trip. The people in Flagstaff are so friendly that we just love how they treat us when we're in the store. Sometimes we'll grab a premade lunch and take it to one of the parks as well. Getting in the parking is a little bit weird but as soon as we see those giant cows, we feel like we're home! read more

They have gotten much better over the years. In the beginning the store had challenge after challenge from items being out of stock to employees and management seemingly not caring. Thankfully this has changed: staff is friendlier, and most products, even sale items are usually in stock. Definitely much better prices than Whole Foods and typically Sprouts and Fry's, but with a limited selection compared to those stores. All of their produce is organic but you can definitely get organic produce cheaper at Sprouts. A plus however is that you can buy a few carrots, or a few stalks of celery as it is sold per pound and not a bunch. This comes in handy when you just need a little bit for a recipe. Their digital incentive program is called {N}power. A few of their coupons are really good, but many of their coupons require large purchases for little reward. The incentive program at Fry's is much better. One plus about their incentive program is that you can get organic eggs for $2.99 or $3.99 a dozen. A big savings from the regular price and this offer has been ongoing for quite a while now. They do not have bags so be sure to bring your own unless you want a box. I always wondered what this place was. When you drive by, you see a giant cow pained on their wall. They don't look like they are open from the main street side. I finally looked it up on Yelp to find out this was a grocery store. Compared to some chain organic grocery stores, their price is slightly less. They stock standard organic grocery store stuff here. They don't have plastic bags. Either you bring your bags or they pack in a cardboard box. I came to buy lunch food for the next day picnic lunch and they were pretty good. Great selection/inventory and layout, albeit higher prices than Whole Foods, Sprouts, et al for similar quality. The store itself deserves 4 stars, yet the people working the Nutrition for Hair and Skin area are ridiculous and overbearing. They act like you are an inconvenience and when they ask, "can I help you?", the tone feels more like, "please move along". They are overbearing and watch you look at any product. You are not allowed to really touch anything unless you are buying it, and they follow you just to tell you what you're doing wrong. Not allowed to smell any product or even open the top of a candle to sample the aroma (even with mask on). They state, and this is an exact quote, "do not open anything to smell, yeah,, we are very particular about that, please select it or move along". A candle, mind you. That was said to me even with a full cart and going to buy it. Nope. Put everything back on shelf and left. It wasn't about the policy, it was the tone, and actions of these employees. They seemed to want me to leave, and made me feel like I shouldn't even be in the store. Never again will shop this store. I was already willing to swallow the high prices, yet they don't even really want you in there or to touch anything, even with gloves on as well. They will watch you like a hawk and when they come to "help you", it really to just critique you. Went in today for the first time since the pandemic started. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I felt welcomed into the store and felt like a valued customer. Their shelves were well stocked with the dietary needs I was looking for, and I even found some new items I hadn't heard of before. Prices are very competitive compared to the other natural type stores in town, and the store is very clean and organized. I will definitely be shopping here more now that I know what they carry, and how they treat folks. I had a great experience. read more

When I saw the giant cow painted on the outside of the building, I knew I had to pop in at some point. This spot is basically a local alternative to Sprouts, with similar products and selection. Produce section is small but certified organic. Ready-made food section is limited and predictably overpriced. I'm not a fan of how the bottom third of my container is shredded lettuce, either. Big draw here is the massive selection of proteins (surprising number of hemp-based versions!) and supplements, along with their tea and kombucha varieties. Found it odd that not a single staff member approached me or greeted me at all during my visit until it was time to check out. Dear Natural Grocers - I love your store and have been a big supporter since you came to Flagstaff. I constantly talk you up to my friends, in hopes that this location remains successful. Great products, great prices. Lately I have been shocked and disappointed to see cases of plastic water bottles sold and promoted (at the door of the store). When does it EVER make sense to sell 12 oz of water in plastic, 12 at a time?? All that single-use plastic waste, going into landfills, landscapes, oceans. Wow. This something the big box and national grocery chains do - not Natural Grocers. Not only do you sell this product, but you are promoting it as a loss-leader sale item, at the entrance to the store. This is a huge black eye for your company. Not such a big fan anymore. Hoping you change this policy. It doesn't fit with the rest of your commitment to quality and the environment. read more

Love the NG's in CO but this Flagstaff one has some serious issues. It was ok when it first opened but ever since the original Manager has left, this place is a complete failure in every department, especially customer service!!!! Items are ALWAYS out of stock! From eggs to whatever. Every time I go in it's like someone came in a cleaned out the place. How is that possible??? I have been lucky 1-2 times but that's it. They are terrible at keeping things properly stocked! Their produce is lousy and rots quickly, like in 1 day! The general mood in this place is a melancholy, I don't want to deal with you so go away attitude to a just plain rude that makes me NEVER want to return. There are only 3 employees there that are decent, Lauren and her twin as well as the lady with the long grey hair who is super nice and helpful. Every new employee or some of the old ones are just plain bad. One of the older ladies has worked there since opening and she is cold as ice and still to this day has to look up numbers for items which causes the experience to drag out even longer. Then you have produce guy, who dresses like a slob and chit chats with employees while his plumber crack greets people on the way in. Gross! One girl who checks out, I really think this is her first time in public. I hate this place. I wanted it to be great but it is not. I don't even want to save my money so I don't have to go in here. It's not worth it. At least at WF's or Sprouts the shelves are stocked and for the most part people are nice. This place sucks! It's by far the worst place besides fry's which I refuse to even drive by! General manager!!! Hey, you need to do a serious revamp and or need to be replaced. NG's has gone downhill for the last 2 years. You hire terrible people (with some exceptions), do not know how to stock or train people and like I said the overall mood is disgusting! Maybe the pay sucks and your employees just don't care or maybe you do not support your employees so they just don't...care!!! This place needs help! Love this place! Came in at 11am, nobody was really in the store but every employee greeted me and asked if I needed help. I love the variety of organic food here and reasonably price. Only downside I can see if parking for the building is confusion, you can see the place from the street but you park in the back and enter in the side entrance. read more

The Big Cow store as my daughter likes to call it, they have a great selection of organic produce at fair prices and a vast array of bulk goods at great prices. This store is such a great addition to the Flagstaff grocery selection and stocks plenty of organic, vegetarian and gluten free staples. They have a large selection of organic meats and dairy and really do offer fair prices on all of their products, especially compared to those other guys. I seem to have forgotten the name of that one super expensive store that I don't need to visit anymore because of Natural Grocers....hmm...must be getting old. Thank you for understanding that your ideal customer/shopper is educated more than the average consumer about how to support their immune system and allows me to disinfect my own bags appropriately to bring them in. Another local grocery store chain no longer allows you to bring in your own bags and it feels very wasteful now. Natural Grocers is just what we needed in town: an organic grocery store that doesn't gouge you! The prices here are quite reasonable, and when you can catch things on markdown it's pretty comparable to a regular grocery store. The service here has always been great. The checkers are always kind, and the folks stocking the isles are extremely helpful. This is my go-to grocery store in Flagstaff. Since WF bought out New Frontiers, it has gone downhill badly, as well - in products and service. NG has great staff - knowledgeable and helpful. Prices are good with fantastic sales. Wonderful place for all healthy consumers to get their groceries while staying in Flagstaff. Much better in quality, price and selection than that other place that starts with a W. The staff here is super-friendly, too! We bought some food in the store and then ate it in their large and clean community room, adjacent to their restrooms, which are super clean and modern. We love all Natural Grocers! We are from Denver and have been to many Natural Grocers and they are consistently clean and offer tremendous prices on wonderful and healthy products. This particular VC was awesome and we love that it was made from an old barn - it's part of history and maintains the culture of preservation that is prevalent in all Natural Grocers stores. I would have to say that the cow on the wall facing Milton caught my attention too. Was just in Flagstaff for a wedding over the weekend and is on my way home back down to Phoenix. Stopped by the store to check what they have, since I was short on time and didn't have the necessary bags with me to fill all the goodies, so I didn't do any shopping. The grocery store doesn't use plastic bags, they only provide boxes or you will have to bring your own bags to fill the groceries in. The store sell mostly all organic items and a lot of different types of vitamins. I will definitely stop by again next time I visit Flagstaff and will bring lots of bags to fill what I couldn't get down here in Phoenix. It's totally worth the 2-hour trip if you need to get all the fresh food for your family. read more
