We called the store and spoke to a manager. He said he would refund. We brought the unopened boxes back, paid with a credit card for a refund or replacement. An employee asked us to come back later when a manager would be there. Which we did. The manager refused to refund or replace said we should have returned the product before expiration. Calls and emails to corporate executives went unanswered. Talk about penny wise and pound foolish. They have lost our business for ever. I'm giving 3 stars for the very nice cashier but every time I shop here all the floor staff except people in vitamins just ignore customers and chat amongst themselves like they're having a party. It is SO irritating. They literally cackle to each other across the aisle while you are just right there and don't acknowledge you at all. No smile, no hello, no can I help you, nothing. For this reason and the fact that they are constantly out of things I very much dislike this particular Natural Grocers. Just had the most disappointing experience at my local Lafayette natural grocers. I'm there at least twice a week, and have been a loyal customer for years. Two days ago, I bought a chicken from them and it was rotten. Yuck but it happens! I went back to the store to let them know and they refused to give me a store credit or a refund because I didn't have my receipt. I just feel so disappointed because I think of natural grocers as a value driven company, but when it comes down to it, I'm just another dollar. Even though I've been seeing these people every few days for years, there was zero flexibility. I know it's not the employees fault but instead the policy of the store. I think it's terrible business because for nine dollars you just lost my loyalty. When I frequent a business multiple times a week, I want a little bit of grace. But I guess that's corporate America. I thought this was a great place to go for groceries and supplements. I usually visit Sprouts but tried here one day instead! It's a bit smaller inside, and I felt a little cramped but the staff at the door was very nice greeting us! They have a ton of food products, nutrition help, and natural fruit and vegetables. I loved the variety of fresh produce. They seem to have a nice juicing station set up too! There was a lot of special items. I'll be back soon to check out more of their cool unique items! read more

They have good selection in many other categories as well, including dairy, frozen, soups, crackers, snacks, juices, preserves, bulk nuts, baking and chocolate. The drawback is that they are a limited selection in the food section. When I go there, I have to hit another store afterwards to get what I need. I assume if you come here, you know it is a specialized store. But there are a few surprises here and they're worth checking out. Their sales are fantastic and the produce is very fresh . If you have special food needs most likely, they will have it and their shelves are not empty. Like some of the bigger businesses these days, you will most likely find what vitamin you would want there extensive! Just don't get all of your groceries there :-) although the quality is good, it's extremely expensive. Stick to your specialty items. read more

I have always found the staff to be very helpful! The produce is organic so not always the prettiest. Their pricing on a number of items is lower than those found elsewhere and they make the effort to carry product lines that are helpful to those who lactose and gluten intolerant. The staff in the vitamin/supplements department is very knowledgeable and helpful! The head of it actually did research for me on what I could take that would not interfere with an RX and called me back with the information so I could come in and get the appropriate products. read more

Of all of the different locations I have visited, this is probably the best layout and selection that I've seen. Not to down play the other locations (as I like some of the employees from other places too), but this is the best one in my opinion. I am in the area ever so often so that is convenient. I'm a huge fan of their customer service here. My visit was under 30 minutes, and only because Tristan was able to help me find the right sections for most of my shopping needs. I was a little confused when I first walked in, because almost all of the Natural Grocers are built differently, and I needed to find the beauty department as well as the health department. I now know where to find my herbal curly hair oil, and some of the vital vitamins that I needed. The cashier with the glowing, darling, platinum blond hair was an absolute angel and I'm stunned that I didn't quite catch her name by chance. read more

Vitamin Cottage is a fantastic natural grocery with an unfortunately deceptive name. I thought for years that they just did vitamins and supplements, similar to GNC, and never bothered going in. That's too bad, because now it's one of my favorite places to shop. The focus here is on natural and organic foods, though I wouldn't say they replace a trip to a larger grocery. They've got fresh fruits and veggies, for example, but I can't think of where the meat section is, or even if they have one. I find lots of surprising stuff here: did you know that Falafel King (that place on the Boulder mall) sells packaged falafel balls, hummus, and tzatziki sauce? You can get it at Vitamin Cottage. Ever have a Sambazon Smoothie at the smoothie place on the Boulder mall? You can buy the same frozen Acai (Brazilian berries) at Vitamin Cottage. I really like the bagged semi-bulk foods at Vitamin Cottage. You can buy nuts, seeds, grains, dried fruits -- all kinds of stuff -- in bags sold by weight. I say "semi-bulk" because you can get small bags. This is how I shop for my parrot: I can get organic non-roasted non-salted seeds and nuts for her, plus some roasted/salted stuff for myself. It's pretty cheap, too. I'll get a bag of roasted pumpkin seeds for $2 that'll keep me busy snacking for a week. If you're into tea, this is the place. Not just your average teas, either. They've got about a dozen varieties of Yerba Mate, lots of green teas, herbal teas, plus the usual boxed stuff. They sell bulk loose teas and other dried stuff that you could use for making your own fancy mix. I personally buy the loose teas and brew them in a french press. Oh, and vitamins. Vitamin Cottage does, in fact, carry vitamins. They've got several rows of vitamins, supplements, herbs, holistic remedies, protein powders, all that stuff -- it takes up about a third of the store. If you're looking for Martian beeswax or whatever, they'll have it. A definite bonus to shopping here is the staff. If you've got a question about some weird supplement, there's someone in the store that can answer it. Usually you don't need to ask: if you stand in one place looking puzzled for about 10 seconds, someone will ask if you need help. (I speak from experience here.) Prices are decent for what you're getting, certainly no worse than Whole Foods and probably better. Figure on spending extra because you *will* find oddball stuff you've just got to try. You'll probably still wind up at a big grocery for half your grocery needs (I'd recommend King Soopers on Baseline and 287) but I highly recommend Vitamin Cottage for specialty and organic needs. read more

This is a great natural and specialty food market in Lafayette! They don't just carry vitamins folks, the also sell organic produce, health and beauty supplies (of the natural variety of course) bulk food items, bakes goods, and many supplements and of course vitamins. One thing I love about this place is that they have great customer service and will happily order something for you if they don't have it in the store. Oh and now that Albertsons in the neighborhood is closed, it is really nice that there is somewhere in that part of town to buy food and other items. I think their prices are reasonable for what they provide but if you are trying to do the bulk of your grocery shopping there it can be a bit pricey. Only reason they don't get four stars is their hours are kind of limited - I wish they were open later! read more

Excellent store. My main grocery shopping is split between this and another store. The produce is very high quality and full of flavor. For example, some of the things I frequently shop for, red delicious apples, broccoli, and lettuce are amazing. I also found the best quality spices here. The spices that are packed by Natural Grocers are excellent: fresh, with rich taste, and very economical. I appreciate that I don't have to worry about the quality of food I am buying, and don't have to spend the extra time scrutinizing the labels. In this time of history when everyone should be taking personal responsibility to live more sustainably, I appreciate that Natural Grocers is helping in their own way, for example: by encouraging people to bring their own shopping bags and providing paper bags for produce. The people who work here are wonderful and have always been very helpful. The location of this store is perfect: I stop here for all vegetable produce, spices, and swing by Krishna's next door for more exotic ingredients to make a fantastic meal. read more

I like Vitamin Cottage in general, mainly because they are one of the few stores that keeps Whole Foods (WF) from being a complete monopoly in Colorado. My main complaint about the fresh fruits and vegetables (this goes for WF as well) is that they are grown in Mexico. All 'organic' stores sell fresh fruit and vegetables that are grown in Mexico. I DON'T BUY ANY OF THEM. First of all, WHO REGULATES ORGANIC practices in Mexico? Hmmmm???? Far as I know, no one polices this practice. No body . . . Mexico uses several pesticides that are banned in the USA. So, unless I just can't do without something that I find that was grown in Mexico, I avoid buying it. Over 90% of the fresh vegetables & fruits in Vitamin Cottage are Mexico originated. I buy a lot of other groceries there, just not 'fresh from Mexico' items. read more

This is our favorite store as well as our daughter's. The managers are great and always accommodate your needs and special orders. They've actually started to carry a wide selection of products that we requested (for allergy reasons). Our daughter calls it "Cottage" and always ask to go there. I love coming to this location since it is one of the larger locations around my area. I love the large selection of produce always available. I have been going for a long while now and I think the renovation as of late have really improved the store. My daughter loves getting a sticker from the cashier every time we check out. The staff is friendly and helpful. It doesnt have everything i need especially some canned food items i can get at KingSoopers but for the most part I only rarely need to supplement from Kings. The prices on many items found in other stores are about the same if not lower. I enjoy Rudy's brand of bread which is over $5.00 at Kings but a little over $3.00 here. For the most part I really enjoy coming and so does my family. Their little shopping carts help my daughter feel involved in our shopping experience and it helps her learn about shopping selections. read more

I'm a frequent visitor to the Boulder location. Wowza, this is a big location, no more isle claustrophobia, ha ha. They don't seem to have significantly more, but I really liked the open layout of the store. Strangely, I had trouble finding some items - they were not where I thought they'd be, oh well. Plenty o parking too. If you're not a VC shopper, you're missing out! Smaller store feel (not tiny grocer of course), good quality stuff, cheaper than Whole Paycheck. And it's a fairly fun store to shop in, if you're a foodie like me. read more

I'm really glad we have Natural Grocers in Lafayette. We're regulars, and usually choose it over Sprouts and King Soopers. Prices are marginally higher in some cases, but for the most part you get what you pay for. Obviously, fresh organic vegetables are available, but that's not unique. If you value humanely raised, antibiotic free, grass fed meat, it's the only local choice. Egg and dairy offerings are superior to local competition. The supplement section is vast, and comparable in price to other retail sources. read more

simply put, i LOVE this place! i love it enough that i'd consider moving closer to it. anytime i've created a grocery list, i go here first and then i get whatever they might be out of (which does happen from time to time because GOOD PRODUCTS fly off the shelves people!!) elsewhere. but really, the people working here make this store feel welcoming. the deets: fantastic selection of vitamins, supplements, natural skin care products, etc. this part of the store has a variety and scope of products that's comparable to what you'd find at whole foods except just a tad smaller. there are your frozen foods - hello "coconut bliss" agave-sweetened coconut milk ice creams! nice to see you frozen fruits and veggies! glad you could make it frozen dinners! there is an aisle of bulk items - grains, dried fruits, nuts. and don't worry if you can't find the chia seeds in that aisle - they are REFRIGERATED as they ought to be to maintain the integrity of the seeds. word. what else? robust selection of baby foods, breakfast foods, canned foods, broth, sauces, and anything else you might find packaged in a box, bottle or bag. did i mention that there is a whole aisle of dog food? and it's competitively priced, i might add. there is a decent selection of produce - here's the ONLY place where i could envision some improvement, but honestly, they carry a lot of organic and local produce so i say shop here and get whatever produce you need and can't find at your local farmer's market. as far as pricing goes, i compared 6-7 different items between this place and whole foods, and Natural Grocers prices their products lower than whole foods on all the items i checked. SCORE! bonus - they have a meeting room at the back of the store. let's plan a get together, shall we? DOUBLE bonus - if you order something by the case, they offer a 10% discount on most things. (the discount doesn't apply to some dairy and perishable items as Caroline explained very helpfully to me.) one little note that completely endears the store to my planet-loving sensibilities - they don't offer bags. if you don't come with your own shopping bags, they have a HUGE bin of cardboard boxes - the very boxes in which their products were shipped to the store - from which you can take whatever you need to cart your groceries home. the people in this place are SO helpful and knowledgeable. and friendly! it's nice to be able to support this local business with my grocery dollars!! read more

I had never stepped into a Natural Grocer's store before, up until this past weekend where I was there for the weekend working a demo in this locations store. I have to say the store management staff treated me so rudely and were so disrespectful. Their manager Helen and Lauren were so incredibly rude and unprofessional towards me, creating unnecessary scenes in front of their customers, to the point of embarrassment. Where as I am sure Natural Grocer stores are wonderful stores to shop in, I would never recommend this stores location to anyone. read more

The Natural Grocers I usually go to is AMAZING (Northglenn)! I stopped at this one out of convenience and it was anything but. 3 store employees walked past me while I was searching through the vitamins never asking if I needed help. I finally asked someone who was helpful. Then at check out I indicated one of my products was marked on sale. She said I would have had to had downloaded the coupon on the app to get the pricing. However there wasn't a coupon for that item on the website. When I asked if I could bring back the receipt and coupon she sighed loudly and said it would all have to be returned and then rebought. She was short and rude. I ended up not buying it and will go to my FRIENDLY HELPFUL store instead. Don't stop here. People are grumpy and too busy to be bothered. read more
