Water is served in a green bottle which makes it look very fancy. The staff is very friendly and helpful. When I asked about their wine assortment, our waitress told us about the different wines and which one she would recommend for me. I could even taste the wine before deciding to take it or not! Their menu is surprising, they have a lot of 'different' sorts of meals which makes eating here a very unique and relaxed experience. The bread they served was home-baked and absolutely delicious! The building looks modern and light, and I heard there is also an art gallery inside - which I unfortunately didn't get the chance to see. I will definitely come back here more often!

Let me first explain that I've visited Holocaust museums & Jewish museums and concentration camps & all other related sites throughout virtually all of Europe - east & west, north & south - (including the Jewish Museum in Trondheim, but that was 20 years ago and therefore I don't feel it's appropriate for me to post a review after such a long time). This museum opened about five years ago and it's small (it's located in one of two synagogues in Oslo, and this one is no longer used for worship because Oslo's Jewish community is now too small to sustain two congregations) - and half of the exhibition space is a (permanent) exhibit of Jewish holiday observances, which is probably only of interest to those who are unfamiliar with the subject matter. However, it was the other exhibit - which showed photos and gave very moving/personal stories of several extended families whose members mostly perished in the Holocaust - that reduced me to tears. Actually, I'm crying again as I type this....the museum's small size - and my extensive experience in visiting so many museums of this type - might make you wonder why I'm giving this museum five stars, but I think it's because the Jewish community in Oslo (which consisted of most Norwegian Jews, for obvious reasons) was always small in size and therefore this exhibit is quite "personal". The beautiful and simple portrayal of a small number of people will surely affect you - and do take the time to read everything about the families. Note that the museum is only open three days/week and for only five hours/day. The young woman working there was very sweet-natured and we had a wonderful conversation with her. Also note that you might almost walk past the museum without realizing where the entrance is located. Look for the big iron gates and then you'll see a buzzer.

However, this museum is different in that it focuses on Jewish life in Oslo and Norway. As another reviewer already mentioned: It was quite an emotional experience at times, as you get introduced to families and learn about personal fates. It's also a rather small museum with a very personal touch to it, which I liked a lot. It is basically one exhibit hall, an entry room where you can by books and merch and another exhibition located outside. As it was raining cats and dogs when I visited, I didn't get to look at that part of the exhibition though. The museum not only tells us about the past and the bitter hardships Jews have faced, but it also has a dedicated section about Judaism, its customs and general history. You can listen to Jewish music, read about how food is prepared, find out more about important holidays and celebrations and so on. Not only was all of this highly interesting, the positive outlook of this part of the exhibition gives hope. I think I learned quite a bit. Unfortunately I only had about an hour to spend, so as my time was limited, I had to rush it a little in the end to see everything. The staff there is very friendly and motivated to answer you any questions you have. We had a wonderful chat before I left, and I can only wish them all the best, and to keep up the great work in the future. Go there and visit this place if you are in Oslo, it is time well spend!

I actually just walked the outside of the castle. The grounds were gorgeous. There were various…read morefruit trees. Oranges and crab apples. The large crab apple tree planted in the center of the large lawn was so abundant that there were tons of over ripened ones that had fallen all over and littered the lawn. This caused a bunch of bees buzzing around them on the lawn. There are also a lot of tourists walking the outer grounds of the castle, stopping to pose next to the cannons. The views of the ocean and blue skies are noteworthy. It was worth the long walk from the hotel.
