There are normally plenty of counter staff although be prepared to queue at peak times. There are plenty of staff in the other areas waiting to help you with personal banking and there is also a business banking section. There are cash machines both inside and out if you want to bypass the counters.

Barclays bank is situation away from the shops down the hill past te library. They have a large branch, with lots of counters, although they can get very, very busy at the weekends and the wait can be annoying, same in most banks. They have desk areas when you can sit with someone for help and offices for super private business.

It is very modern and has excellent air conditioning meaning sometimes your actually looking for an excuse to go in there. When I wanted to open a new account it was very proffesionally handled and easily done. The staff were very friendly and guided me through the process highlighting all the relevent points well. It can get very busy during certain times of day so maybe plan your trip to miss the typical busy points of the day or at the very least book an appointment and come back after your shopping.

However you never have to wait too long here as you nearly always get served by friendly staff within 10 minutes at busy times and 5 minutes at off peak times, which as I'm sure most of you will know is pretty great for a bank. This branch of Nationwide is located on High Street, a stone's throw away from The Bull so it is a…read morepretty decent location in Birmingham city centre - although many other rivals banks are nearby (Nationwide is a building society however which offers many of the same services you'd find at a bank!) The store does look pretty big from the outside, it looks modern and is a pretty cool building for a bank however only the ground level appears to be in use. Opening hours are pretty generic in the bank, they seem to be better and worse than other banks nearby. Closing at 3:30 pm on a Saturday is pretty poor. The staff here seemed friendly enough and the bank did have decent facilities including two banking machines (not bad for a bank this size but many others nearby do have more!) and a small bar-style seating area for internet banking - the store did seem a little squashed at some times though so perhaps using the upper floors could be a good idea. I also liked how they had around one or two phone chargers you could plug your phone into built into the table. Nationwide was the first company to launch internet banking in the UK in May 1997, so this recently refurbished branch which opened towards the end of September 2018 following the closure of around four months is a pretty cool branch for a building society which seems to be going forward and taking on technology, but for me only warrants a high three-star rating because the space doesn't seem to be utilised very well and it does feel squashed at times, and opening hours could be better.

I didn't have any interactions with the staff so can't comment on that in detail, but they seemed okay. They was a decent number of cash machines inside, which were easy to use and in good condition. The inside of the bank was quite nice and modern, and I'm sure I remember seeing a second floor as well, there were machines for paying in money and withdrawing it, your typical ATM'S. This is a nice bank to have in a city center of a town like Birmingham, fairly close to the New Street Train Station too and a short walk from the Bullring and Grand Central, and I have to agree with the average rating for this place that it deserves a solid 3 stars!

What we have here is a large open plan banking experience in bright green trade marked Lloyds Colours. There are 2 desks for info, a number of tills and seated areas to wait or sit and complete your banking before joining the que. There are a number of self service deposit machines and letter boxes if you wanted to avoid queing.

Birmingham as a city does have a large amount of new and more "modern" banks compared to most cities, most of which are located nearby and around the New Street area like this one and this branch is one of them. It has outside cash machines which are in Grand Central meaning when the branch is shut you can still access your money which I like - the branch might be a little small so can get really crowded at times so it isn't the best place to settle down for more than a few minutes, but it is still pretty decent/modern as far as banks go, despite not offering any unique features. Being open between 9 am and 6 pm Monday to Saturday, this is also useful as it ditches the draconian ancient hours of banking to a degree, although not on the same level as other banks such as Metro, who are also opening in Birmingham in the near future in a branch located near The Bull. Decent, central branch yet let down by its' size and staff seeming struggling to cope in Birmingham city centre. 3*
