All 5 s! Don't be fooled in to thinking you will be totally roughing it! This place is glamping at its finest! The yurts are wonderful and roomy, the beds are comfy, they keep everything tidy, and they provide so many perks! Let me expand, they have an incredible staff, people who truly love what they are doing and their enthusiasm is infectious! Every night we were there a warm fire greeted us with snapping and popping welcoming us back from our Seward explorations! The kitchen and cooking area is always clean and welcoming. You must cook your own food, there are flattops, BBQ grills, or even a stick by the campfire. I was familiar with s'mores which they provide ingredients for but I was introduced to stick bread, its life changing! There are so many options to use you can make gourmet meals or something simple, they make it easy no matter what your cooking abilities will allow! Morning coffee and tea are waiting hot and fresh, they also provide pancake/waffle mix for you to add to your planned meal. They have a supply of chocolate chips for a sweet twist but if you want with Alaskan style, and if you're lucky enough to be staying during blueberry season the property is abundant with high bush blueberries! Send someone out on a blueberry walk and add them to your fresh waffles or pancakes. Alaskan summer brings out the midnight sun, literally, but for extra light the paths to all of the yurts are well lit which make late night snack time or early morning coffee pleasant. The yurts do not have bathrooms inside them, you must venture out to the shared facilities. If you want an adventure that is unique, fun, and will be a memorable part of your Alaska experience, the Nauti Otter is the best! read more

I absolutely loved my time here at the Nauti Otter Inn in Seward, Alaska. This Nauti Otter Inn is situated right off the road about 5 miles away from downtown, Seward and wonderful Kenai Fjords National Park. I spent 3 nights here at my cozy and charming little Lumberjack Shack! It was like the coolest, tiniest trailer set on the outskirts of the woods. In fact, you'd probably never believe that they can fit 2 beds (yes, they were double beds) inside such a tiny configuration! Lol, all I can say is...wait for the pictures as proof, hehe! It didn't matter how crammed my tiny cabin/shack appeared on the outside or inside, I still had 3 very comfortable night sleeps. It was $100 per night for 3 evenings. $300 in total, but well worth it and probably the cheapest option in terms of accommodations throughout Seward. Some other innovative names of similar cabin/models to my Lumberjack Shack included... - The Kodiak Cavern - an exact replica of a garage! Lol. - Beaver Boudoir. - Humpback Shack. - Loon Saloon. - Wolf Den. - Sourdough Shack. Some extra details about the lodging amenities here at the Nauti Otter Inn... Included inside my Lumberjack Shack were a real working stove countertop, an electric heater for the cold evenings and plenty of towels/washcloths to freshen up with. There were 2 outdoor vault toilets but in immaculate conditions. You could sense they were attended to and monitored frequently. It smelt so fresh inside these porter potties which were extremely unusual from my travels, lol. Then there was the primary house where they offered free "do it yourself" breakfasts in the mornings cooking homemade pancakes and waffles. They had 2 showers as well where all you had to do was write your name on a whiteboard to reserve them. The other visitors and tourists staying on the grounds were friendly and happy to speak with me and share in their adventures. Truly, I was thrilled with my stay and grateful to immerse myself in such a rustic setting. This Nauti Otter Inn goes down as one of my favorite lodgings of all time...even if I had to use communal showers and bathrooms!!! If you're coming down here to Seward, AK to explore the wondrous surroundings of Kenai Fjords...I highly, highly recommend giving this Nauti Otter Inn a chance. I really enjoyed staying in a yurt. it was glamping at its finest. Privacy in a green forest. It rained the entire time we were there, so no way to truly have a fire, but they do have that option, with a shared fire pit by the shared kitchen, bathrooms, showers, etc. The yurt itself was cute. each yurt had its own name and theme. The bed was too soft for our liking. We enjoy firm beds, so that was the one downside. otherwise, we really enjoyed it. read more

We loved staying in the Bald Eagle Bungalow! It was cozy and sweet! The hostess was super helpful and we loved the make your own waffle set up for breakfast! They had coffee and tea too. We stayed in many other hostels throughout our time in Alaska, but this one was the best!! read more

We stayed in the Yurt Village and had a wonderful experience. The yurts were cozy and the community kitchen was very well furnished, with lots of food storage options for guests (refrigerator, dry bins). Unfortunately my group had a large stash of snacks stolen, but the owner was very nice and reimbursed us $100 for the inconvenience. Showers were on a sign-up system of 15minutes, which worked quite well. Location is convenient to in-town activities in Seward. Would definitely stay again! read more

This was not a "fairytale" stay. I am a solo traveler and While I am happy to have had a "yurt" experience I wish it hadn't been in someone's backyard where the fear of bears makes the trek to the bathroom too scary to navigate in the dark. I'm middle aged so this place is not for me... maybe when I was communicating with them they could have advised me as such.. maybe that is why they have their strict no refund policy. Other reviews led me to believe this would be a better experience. I am sure they experienced what they wrote but I certainly did not. I was led to believe that breakfast and meeting the proprietors. I sincerely I had just made this my "boondoggie" night... Anyway, never again, but if you are a group of college kids splitting the expenses.. maybe it'd be fun? The groups I met were fun and looked like they were having fun but also freezing. Too cold to cook the pancake mix left, to cold to pee and too afraid due to all the bear warnings and kit, including a flare that should be used "when" the bear starts to attack- after you have used your bell to warn the bears and your air horn to warn other people.. after ALL that and I didn't even see a bear.. I wish I could give this place 10x more stars. Seriously exceeded my expectations. Not only is it affordable, but it's very clean and cozy. The Yurts are tucked nicely into the trees so you get the real camping feeling. However there is a nice bathroom and shower within walking distance. Perfect place for those who like "glamping". Any time I go to Seward, I'll be making it a point to stay here vs a hotel. They are also only a 10 minute drive from downtown Seward so it was easy to go explore and adventure. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. I can't recommend this enough! read more

Staying here is surely 'glamping'. In a little forest and then you open the door to a little lovely bedroom in the woods! Comfortable bed, warm lighting and cozy space. The pavilion area has everything needed for camping but even better! Flush toilets and warm showers with towels and toiletries. Fridge, stocked with all you need to prepare your waffles in the outdoor kitchen complete with cooktop, waffle makers and coffee brewing when you wake up. Others brought bacon, eggs and such to go with the waffles, something we will do next time. There is also a BBQ for other meals even as well comfortable seating and a fire pit. -PROS- - Decently comfortable, if rather short, bed - Built in desk - Chair - Garbage can - Lamp - Fan - Heater - Power strip (for charging) - even "outhouses" (shower and bathroom) had full running water and electric - quaint, cute little mini-cabins -CONS- - No masks worn by staff (and coughing all over) - hasp lock on outside and only little latch on inside. - Parking issues - ZERO respect for quiet hours I stayed in one of the mini-cabins, the Mariners Lair, so I'll speak to this set up. Overall, I really dug this little cabin. Could the walls use a coat of paint? Sure. Could the bed length be a problem for someone over 5' 5"? Yes! Could the bed have been a bit more comfortable? Definitely! Though I hate it when rooms have hasp lock set ups (as some douche could easily come by and decide to play a "prank" by closing it and sticking a stick or something in it to keep the occupant from getting out), I could even let that pass. HOWEVER, my biggest issue was the total and complete disregard and lack of enforcement of the quiet hours. Picture this, you are coming back from a long day out of hiking, sightseeing, etc. You drive up to your room, only to find someone else parked in the private parking space "designated for your cabin". Not only that, but there is a group of 30 of so people sitting in a camp fire circle that goes to right in front of your cabin, singing badly and loudly and blocking you from parking. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. After 10 minutes of negotiating to parallel park next to my mini-cabin to accommodate the person who was NOT SUPPOSED TO BE IN MY PARKING SPOT and being told that I would likely have to move "later", I go inside.....to the fully unsound proofed cabin. I felt like I was in a bad 1960s cult/commune - like the staff, who were there trying desperately to sing away their feelings, were reliving their imagined glory days at Woodstock or something. I just kept screaming on the inside, telling myself over and over not to accept any flowers or koolaide. And best of all, it just goes on and on and on and on as I watch the clock and pray for 11pm (alleged start of quiet time) to hurry up and come. Finally it turns 11pm. I hear the host say goodnight and leave as people continue to sit there talking and laughing loudly until the wee hours of the night. That's right, the host didn't say: "It's now quiet hours, please be respectful of the people sleeping in these cabins." Or to "Please take the high jinx elsewhere." Nope. She just basically says, "I'm out". Needless to say, sleep was not my friend during my time there. Though the next night there was no sing along, people were still hanging out in that area, talking and laughing loudly and there was still ZERO attempt to enforce quiet hours. Now, I have been to various camps/hostels etc. and having activities etc. is NOT unusual. However, typically, such activities are conducted in a way that is respectful of those guests who do not wish to participate. They are done away from sleeping areas, field trip fashion off site or end at least 2 hours before "quiet hours". Not here. If this place was anywhere else and run by different people who had respect for their guests who just wanted some sleep, I would bump this review up to 4 stars. I arrived at 12:30am and left at 8am so I didn't get to experience much there or meet the owners. I stayed in the Loon Saloon and while there is a small heater, I was freezing the entire night. I'm not sure the door fully closes, and it was in the low 40s when I was there. The waffles in the morning were great, so that's a plus. read more

We had a wonderful 2 night stay in the Sealion Shanty. The rooms were great and there were many plug ins for electronics and there were heaters to keep us warm. The shared areas were well maintained and all the guests and hosts we interacted with were friendly and respectful. We had a great experience and hope to be able to return soon! read more

I absolutely loved the Nauti Otter. I stayed at the Yurt Village (as opposed to the Inn, which is also great). The yurts are super cozy and craftily decorated, each with a unique theme. The common facilities have everything you need - kitchen, grills, tables, sinks and showers. There is also a great fire pit that I loved hanging out at in the evenings. The staff provides a sealed bag of pancake/waffle mix with supplies, and there are waffle makers in the kitchen area which I used every day. It was the perfect way to start the day. I came during the rainy season, and let me tell you, I got the best sleep of my life here. If you are an introvert like me, skip the hostel and get the Mariner's Lair. I imagine if you've never done a hostel before, this is a good one to try it out -- friendly people, etc. but it was the Lair that made me fall in love with it. It's like Wes Anderson's Production Designer had at it. One bed, a writing desk, a heater, and peace and quiet in the middle of the woods. This was one of my favorite places. We originally booked two nights and added a third because we loved it. First thing to note is that this is a rural situation. So if you're looking for a hotel, go to a hotel because this may not be for you. If you're cool with a funky outhouse, outdoor shower (all in addition to indoor facilities!) and hanging with a space heater (later in the season) the NI is amazing. The pancake bar is awesome and Bucky (the first mate cat!) is the cutest! The most notable things are that 1. This place is SUPER clean. It's the kind of place that could definitely be gross, but Heather and company work very hard and its immaculate. And 2. Every house you stay in (room/cabin/trailer) is an experience. This was our family's first experience staying in a yurt and the place didn't disappoint. Friendly staff (Heather and Clint) were the ones we had for our stay. The yurt we stayed in was two floor, clean, bedding smelled freshly cleaned. The unit had a heater and fan available for each floor. The supplied a bag for activities and for safety a bag for any bear encounters. If you plan to stay at the salmon unit just know that the upstairs floor squeaks a lot and you may wake up to the distant train horns. Our unit front door was not latching right and constantly opens at random times, even when locked. During breakfast, there was only one electric skillet available to make pancakes. Even with the small items that bothered us, we still recommend this place. read more

Perfectly comfortable for a night in Seward. I recommend the bunks (just 3 of them) with curtains rather than in the larger room if available. There was a personal space heater in my space that was amazing. I did not use the breakfast ingredients, but it looked like a good set up with pancake mix and even chocolate chips. Finding affordable lodging in Seward is not easy. Came across Nauti Otter (booked April for September end of season for just under $100 a night) and very happy with our stay. It is just outside of town. We booked a room inside the main house (shared bath, with a sign up board for reserved time if you are on a tight schedule). The place is not fancy, a little older, but clean, comfortable and charming. There are other outside lodging options as well as 2 "hostel" beds upstairs. We self-checked in since hostess was away that afternoon. We didn't stay for long (just 1 night, and literally we slept, showered, and ate breakfast). I made pancakes (ingredients provided) and had hot coffee the next morning before our Kenai Fjords boat tour at 8am, very convenient and money saving. Right down the road is the Pit Bar (we popped in for a quick drink before their "peak" time of 2am) and Salmon Bake (we ate dinner there). There is also a Safeway (grocery store) for those who may be staying longer and want to cook. There are 2 cooking areas at the inn. If you want a quaint, unique and affordable place to stay, check out the Nauti Otter! Note #1: Once you book online, you get periodic emails about things to do and other discounts you can get as the guests of Nauti Otter - coolest being the water spout at MP109 Note #2: Beware noises from street as well as upstair guests while walking. My friends and I were trying to find a place to stay in Seward that wasn't outrageously expensive this summer. Luckily I came across the Nauti Otter online and called to make a reservation. Heather, the owner, was really friendly over the phone and even let us change the reservation at the last minute when we decided to move our trip back a day. The house and cabins are rustic, to say the least, but it's the people who run the Nauti Otter who make the experience so memorable. Heather is hilarious and welcoming. We were all hanging out in the living room our first night and I mentioned that one of my friends had never been fishing before. Next thing I know Heather and Ian have outfitted us with all fishing gear including boots, poles and hooks. We ran down Nash road just to hit the tide coming in. Alas, we didn't catch any fish, but it was a great experience. Heather also made cupcakes for one of the guest's birthdays while we were there. I liked the place so much when another friend was in town I took her back to the Nauti Otter, this time we stayed in the hostel beds upstairs. It's pretty cozy (there are 7 beds in the room) but once again, hanging out with Heather and the other guests made it a fun experience. read more

The Nauti Otter was such a fun experience! We stayed in the "Old Roughcut" cabin and had a great time. Heather, the Nauti Otter "Captain", is one of the sweetest ladies I've ever met. She greeted us with Southern hospitality and when we accidentally set off all the smoke alarms while making dinner (completely our fault) she just laughed and helped us out. She is so happy to invite her guests into her home. Breakfast is included, everything from cereal to waffles to eggs. I think the highlight of the stay here was the bonfire pit in the backyard where we stayed up all night drinking wine and eating 'smores. read more

Nauti otter it was a magical beautiful little vacation. The yurts were super clean, super cute, and had different themes, very easy to find. I took my 4 kids,husband and a couple friends for an Alaskan adventure for our third anniversary. The owners of the Nauti otter were so sweet. They had chocolate chip pancake mix every morning in a common area for us. Waffle maker, propane grills, a fridge raider, and coffee for us every morning. Inside the rooms they had activities, brochures, and even an emergency bear bag. The yurts were clean, affordable and comfortable. They even had activities discounted we could've done but due to Covid none of that was available. 100% will be visiting again. read more

After a long night at a hostel in Anchorage, my family and I were a little nervous about staying at another hostel. The Nauti Otter was so much fun! Heather is unbelievably accommodating and had our two cabins for the night ready for us at noon when we arrived. Usually check-in isn't until 3pm, but she knew we would be arriving earlier in the day so she made sure everything was ready for us when we arrived in Seward. My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of staying in the "Roughcut Cabin," one of several private cabins in the backyard. It was clean and cozy, perfect for the two of us to stay comfortably. The inside of the inn has two kitchen areas, both of which were clean and well stocked. Heather provides eggs, pancakes, waffle mix, hot and cold cereal, and even stuff to make donuts with (which Ryan loved!). The Nauti Otter was full the night that we stayed, but even with 38 people on the premises, it was comfortable. The group that was there was fantastic and the inn felt like home for the duration of our stay. I think the only thing to be aware of is that there are only two bathrooms and two showers available, so it can be busy when the inn is full. We loved our experience and would gladly stay at the Nauti Otter again if we find ourselves in Seward! read more

My wife and I spent a few nights at the Nauti Otter during our vacation to Alaska. A lot of people have already mentioned it, but it's worth mentioning again that Heather was a GREAT hostess. She is very warm and welcoming, it makes it feel like you are staying with family. We stayed in one of the cabins which was a really cool experience. They aren't luxury, but I would have been disappointing if they were. It was very clean and had a comfortable bed, which is all that I ask for. It was a lot of fun sitting out on our porch or by the bon fire till 1:00 am waiting for it to get dark. Heather worked very hard to make sure that everyone enjoyed there stay, not just at the Nauti Otter, but in Seward. She knows a lot about the area and is happy to help you with planning your day. Make sure to ask her before you book anything, because she can get you discounts, and give you advice on what to do. If anybody is worried about the "flushable outhouse", don't be. It is a clean bathroom, with a normal toilet, that just happens to be in an old outhouse looking building. I never really felt like we were roughing it here. read more

This place was amazing. Captain Heather was very nice and recommended a few cool spots to check out while in Seward. We were able to catch salmon jumping out of the river about a mile north from the Nauti Otter. The Sourdough cabin was cozy with a bed, desk, chair, TV with cable, and a floor heater. The floor heater was only used once because it was warm enough under the sheets. We have full access to the kitchen, so cooking breakfast was a breeze. There are two showers, one inside the main house and the other outside. Both have great running hot water and were spotless. This is a well run hostel and will definitely recommend this to anyone with an adventurous spirit who doesn't want to pay for an expensive hotel in downtown Seward. read more

I loved staying at the Nauti Otter, and most of it has to do with having a great hostess like Heather. I was really impressed when she sent us e-mail reminders a month and a few days before our arrival. She was extremely helpful in advising us what to do for our trip in Seward, where we went ice climbing and on a tour of Resurrection Bay. In the morning, she has muffins, bagged pancake mix, instructions for breakfast ideas, and other breakfast items like bread, butter, eggs, cereal available for guests to make French toast or whatever else they think of. The indoor shower is prepared with shampoo, conditioner, and soap. This is another plus, not often seen at other hostels. You can also purchase a toothbrush for $1 if you've forgotten yours. The bedroom we stayed at, "Redbeard's Room", was cozy but comfortable. I'd stay here again, as the other guests were really friendly and Heather was amazing. Ask her about the things you can do for fun, she's very knowledgeable! And booking through her can possibly get you a discount. read more

The Nauti Otter is an amazing place. Everything is very clear and there is so much character to each cabin. The common area has a great kitchen (two of them actually), there is a fire pit in the backyard, great to meet people from all over, and in the morning, they have a super simple but delicious breakfast bar where you can make your own pancakes, waffles or donuts!
