We loved staying in the Bald Eagle Bungalow! It was cozy and sweet! The hostess was super helpful and we loved the make your own waffle set up for breakfast! They had coffee and tea too. We stayed in many other hostels throughout our time in Alaska, but this one was the best!!

    Community kitchen at Yurt Village

We stayed in the Yurt Village and had a wonderful experience. The yurts were cozy and the community kitchen was very well furnished, with lots of food storage options for guests (refrigerator, dry bins). Unfortunately my group had a large stash of snacks stolen, but the owner was very nice and reimbursed us $100 for the inconvenience. Showers were on a sign-up system of 15minutes, which worked quite well. Location is convenient to in-town activities in Seward. Would definitely stay again!

This was not a "fairytale" stay. I am a solo traveler and While I am happy to have had a "yurt" experience I wish it hadn't been in someone's backyard where the fear of bears makes the trek to the bathroom too scary to navigate in the dark. I'm middle aged so this place is not for me... maybe when I was communicating with them they could have advised me as such.. maybe that is why they have their strict no refund policy. Other reviews led me to believe this would be a better experience. I am sure they experienced what they wrote but I certainly did not. I was led to believe that breakfast and meeting the proprietors. I sincerely I had just made this my "boondoggie" night... Anyway, never again, but if you are a group of college kids splitting the expenses.. maybe it'd be fun? The groups I met were fun and looked like they were having fun but also freezing. Too cold to cook the pancake mix left, to cold to pee and too afraid due to all the bear warnings and kit, including a flare that should be used "when" the bear starts to attack- after you have used your bell to warn the bears and your air horn to warn other people.. after ALL that and I didn't even see a bear.. ARGH! https://youtu.be/CS7k8VrllkU

I wish I could give this place 10x more stars. Seriously exceeded my expectations. Not only is it affordable, but it's very clean and cozy. The Yurts are tucked nicely into the trees so you get the real camping feeling. However there is a nice bathroom and shower within walking distance. Perfect place for those who like "glamping". Any time I go to Seward, I'll be making it a point to stay here vs a hotel. They are also only a 10 minute drive from downtown Seward so it was easy to go explore and adventure. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. I can't recommend this enough!

    The Mariners Lair. Super cute!

I came during the rainy season, and let me tell you, I got the best sleep of my life here. If you are an introvert like me, skip the hostel and get the Mariner's Lair. I imagine if you've never done a hostel before, this is a good one to try it out -- friendly people, etc. but it was the Lair that made me fall in love with it. It's like Wes Anderson's Production Designer had at it. One bed, a writing desk, a heater, and peace and quiet in the middle of the woods. A little slice of Moonrise Kingdom met with Bon Iver in the woods writing For Emma, Forever Ago. Enjoy! Super cute.

This was one of my favorite places. We originally booked two nights and added a third because we loved it. First thing to note is that this is a rural situation. So if you're looking for a hotel, go to a hotel because this may not be for you. If you're cool with a funky outhouse, outdoor shower (all in addition to indoor facilities!) and hanging with a space heater (later in the season) the NI is amazing. The pancake bar is awesome and Bucky (the first mate cat!) is the cutest! The most notable things are that 1. This place is SUPER clean. It's the kind of place that could definitely be gross, but Heather and company work very hard and its immaculate. And 2. Every house you stay in (room/cabin/trailer) is an experience. I would absolutely stay here again!

Finding affordable lodging in Seward is not easy. Came across Nauti Otter (booked April for September end of season for just under $100 a night) and very happy with our stay. It is just outside of town. We booked a room inside the main house (shared bath, with a sign up board for reserved time if you are on a tight schedule). The place is not fancy, a little older, but clean, comfortable and charming. There are other outside lodging options as well as 2 "hostel" beds upstairs. We self-checked in since hostess was away that afternoon. We didn't stay for long (just 1 night, and literally we slept, showered, and ate breakfast). I made pancakes (ingredients provided) and had hot coffee the next morning before our Kenai Fjords boat tour at 8am, very convenient and money saving. Right down the road is the Pit Bar (we popped in for a quick drink before their "peak" time of 2am) and Salmon Bake (we ate dinner there). There is also a Safeway (grocery store) for those who may be staying longer and want to cook. There are 2 cooking areas at the inn. If you want a quaint, unique and affordable place to stay, check out the Nauti Otter! Note #1: Once you book online, you get periodic emails about things to do and other discounts you can get as the guests of Nauti Otter - coolest being the water spout at MP109 Note #2: Beware noises from street as well as upstair guests while walking. Not a big deal for me but for light sleepers, bring earplugs

Pros- Cute building, big kitchen, fully equipped with large dining area where you can also meet other travellers. There is an induction cooktop, utensils, crockery, cutlery, toatser, hot water kettle, microwave etc. 4 shared restrooms+showers (seemed adequate to us). Everything seemed clean. Economical. Good vibe! Cons- Building seems old, restrooms are tiny. Bedrooms on the 1st floor don't seem well lighted. Sleeping arrangements seem very basic. The host came out, welcomed us and talked to us and went over everything. Overall, we had a nice stay without any problems! Will stay in this place again if I revisit Seward!

This place was very clean, the lady owner is very nice, upon arrival clean bed sheets were given to me, and pillow cover. Every morning I woke up they would be doing laundry and the restroom was always clean and floors were vacuumed. Yes rooms are small, but clean, bathrooms are small too, but clean. The kitchen is actually big and had a little living room with a nice view. Met some great people here that made my stay extra special. This is an old house and it looks a bit out dated, but it's been kept up, very clean. Beds are a bit small, but comfortable. Over all stayed 3 nights here, nice place. This by the way was the second hostel I had ever stayed at, I was very skeptical, since I'm very picky with even the type of hotel I stay. But after all this is a hostel, don't expect a hotel. The house is set in the middle of town, and walking distance to everything. Also the shuttle stops just down the street from hostel and you can jump in for free and it can take you all around town. Hostel does have lockers, small for valuables only, but convenient, bring your own locks. On my day of departure they allowed me to leave my pack with them while I went around town one last time. Always felt safe here. WiFi is slow, but at least there is WiFi that's always a plus. Enjoyed staying here very much and will be coming back summer of 2019

I rolled in here to discover there was no room in the hostel proper, but there was room in the "trapper's cabin", for $75. It seemed a bit steep for what was basically a small room with a light in it. (No bathroom, but there was an outhouse with a broken toilet seat!) But, we were tired so I reluctantly agreed, filled out some paper work, and went to hand my credit card for payment. I was informed that they did not take credit cards. I then started asking about if they had tent platforms (I may have enough cash to cover one of those), she said "No, we don't". I said the sign out front said there were tent spots available. She said "well, you can put a tent up if you want" "How much for that?" "$25" (stopping and thinking to myself...don't think I have that much cash on me) Then she starts pressuring me back into getting the trapper's cabin. "Well, are you going into Seward sometime tonight or tomorrow?" "Well, yeah, probably" "Ok, just get some cash there and pay me tomorrow, no worries" Ok, cool! Then the next day, I'm in Seward eating brunch and I get a call from a number I don't recognize. I take it. It's the owner of the hostel, angry that I hadn't paid her yet, thinking I had skipped town. I told her I was in town eating and I'd bring the money by afterwards. I did. I gave her $80, said "here's eighty", and she did not give me change, was rude and short with me, and showed me to the door. Now I go on this hostel's website (very had to find any information about this hostel's existence on google, by the way) and see that he cabin is priced at $60! Wow, I guess I was had. If you're looking to stay in the Seward area and not spend a lot of money, I'd have two recommendations: 1) The Ptarmigan Camp Ground a few miles from this hostel, it's only $12 to put up a tent (compared to $25 here). This was my original plan but all the spots were taken. 2) The Moby Dick hostel near downtown Seward (review coming up), it's $30 and you can walk to the limited but super-fun Seward nightlife. Don't come here, unless you enjoy paying $80 to stay in a cabin with an unsealed-door (how do you feel about bugs?) and crap in an outhouse.

The place is old but has charm and makes you feel like your at home. This place might not be for everyone and perhaps that is what the previous people that wrote a review were looking for because our experience was a pleasant one. They went out of their way to accommodate us in every way possible, even allowing us access to their home for showers and cooking as it is a hostel after all! We were traveling with another couple and their opinion mirrored ours, so I guess it's all a matter of perspective. On a negative note, they are not set up to accept credit cards, which would have been helpful but we were told that when we called so it was NO surprise. We would definitely stay here again!!

I'm…read moresitting here with COVID going through a long "to-do" list of things I've always meant to check-off so, here I am, reviewing this place. First the good: The A-frames are fantastically built and appointed. They look like they were built more to be photographed for the latest social media app than they were built to be lived in. The location is incredible, it's easy to walk right on down to the beach. The bad: This place has a very, very odd tone. On one hand, the business talks about community and integrating into the community. On the other hand, it charges $450/night with a 2-night minimum? It really takes a privileged person to be able to afford $900 for a weekend, probably not someone from the community. On top of that, you are expected to do little "chores" around the A-frames...or risk paying even more. Seriously. This place is priced like a luxury hotel but has chores like a $20/night hostel. Very confusing and conflicting vibes. The views: when we were there, the views from the A-frame were of other cabins...under construction. So we mainly had views of white sheets of TYVEK. You are really, really close to the other A-frame. You are forced to get friendly. Depending on who is in the other A-frame this could be really good or really bad. Again, an odd thing for $900. I was lucky enough that my girlfriend surprised me with a night here for my birthday. The only way she could afford it is because she begged to do one night only, and they also gave us a slight discount because of the TYVEK views. It's great if you can afford it, just make sure you do all your chores. For those of us that are used to sleeping on public lands (the owners include themselves in this lot)...this is only good for a one-time splurge and even then...your $900 might be better spent on a plane ticket to somewhere else.
