It's hard to find a good map of this base. Also their building signs are small and simle.So I drove and waked around to memorize. Pretty spacey and peaceful:) Nex: Really small. They have basic things. Liquor shop: Clean, not crowded, nice staffs. I wish they had more local beer and wine. Gas station: Good price but 1 cent pricier than Kroger with their membership. Commissary: Small but good enough. Busy. Gym: Fabulous! Newer, cleaner, less crowded, many machines, nice class room, big locker room, and good shore room with soap. Staffs are friendly and funny. Much better than VA. ITT: They sell nice discount tickets for sightseeing. Free pool table and tiny movie theater. read more

Navy Support Activity Mid-South - Public Services & Government Near Me - Millington, Tennessee

This is my first base that I've lived at. Overall, I love it. Coming from my civilian viewpoint, the feeling of safety living here is very comforting. A few tips: the navy police will "getcha" for speeding. Careful in front of the fire station, especially. If you live on base, check with FC about getting a gate pass CAC card so you can come in on Navy road after hours. Make sure to utilize the rec center for ticketmaster and Malco purchases: you can save a ton! Don't forget the savings you can see with the NEX and their scratch-off deals, and, when you go to the commissary, make sure to check out the coupons to the right as you walk in and MAKE SURE to download and link the commissary app for online coupons. This is an older base, BTW, originally established in 1917(!) The housing was recently(ish) renovated, but you can still see the dated architecture and, in my house at least, the upstairs floors are very creaky. The housing seems overpriced--a very dated 3 bedroom two floor triplex costs us $1050 a month from BAH. Seems high for this area, but I factor in how convenient it is to be on base, the absolute security in the very high crime Memphis area, and the included utilities. Overall, like I said, I love living here, and hope you will too! Edit: one last edit as I sit in the dark at 7:11 am on a clear day on 5/4/14: if there is so much as a butterfly sneeze, the power goes out for the base housing. I've lived on and around a lot of Navy Bases in my life, and this one is pretty run of the mill. Nothing special. Terribly set up, though...like, road, house, office, and store placement is pretty asinine in my opinion....but I don't decide how to set up mini-towns. Has it all though...NEX, Commisary, outdoor pool, workout facility, and all manner of personnel offices you can imagine. This Navy Base is the brains and hub for where all orders and job assignments come from. Pretty cool if you think about it. read more

Nice base for the small size. Not too much selection when it comes to dining. Smaller NEX than most bit it is still nice to have one.

I've been living here a while now, and it's terrible. If I wasn't afraid of getting shot or robbed, I would move off base. There is absolutely nothing to do around here, you have to drive over 30 minutes to get to anything off base. The Exchange is very small, and their clothing selection is for the seniors that come here often. There is a gas station on base, but you never know when it's going to be closing (sometime between 1600-2100). Also, there is one food place (Subway), and then a cafeteria that is only open during certain hours; I hear the food is good. I do like the commissary, they have a great selection and the employees are great. In the summer, you will have to dodge the many wasps and hornets that have infested all of the homes, playground equipment, etc... Nobody hangs out at all outside because of this. It is also difficult to grill with all the pests swarming you. There is no pool here, and there is no community pool anywhere nearby. Also, the school system is terrible, and there are no summer programs available. We get really bad phone service here, and the internet providers can't get our internet to work well at all in the housing. For fun, we go to the Wal-Mart or the Dollar Tree off base. We regret not buying a house out in town. read more
