We have all our checking and saving accounts with them as well as our mortgage and if there is ever a problem, which we experienced only once in 21 years, you can pick up the phone and speak with Julie, the bank manager in Saranac Lake, and it is immediately taken care of. I only deal with NBT on a business account and I have never had any issues. The ladies that work at the Saranac Lake branch are always very friendly and personable. On a personal note, I don't exactly agree with some of there fees and guidelines but that is the lease of my concerns as to why I am writing this review. I have read the previous review about the random $200 and need to say something. Now, I don't know where the $200 went but when you say that the bank knows that it cost $3000 to go to small claims court - you are severely mistaken. Small claims court costs $10 - $15 depending on whether or not your claim is +/- $1000. You can take someone to small claims court for up to $3000. If you are going to make a public review, and quote these figures, at least get your facts straight, do your homework and post correct information. read more

Watch out for their scams. Look them up on the BBB and you will see a few of them. I have gotten my check deposited like clock work and I diligently keep up with my budget. One day my landlord calls up and said my check bounced. Long story short $200.00 dollars just disappeared from my account. Even with my slip in hand the management quietly denied the transaction ever happened. So, I investigate further into the situation and start asking around LP and SL if anyone had this problem. Well they had and I even heard this is a problem in Plattsburg too. I had a former employee verify this all to be true. People were telling me that they go to Price Choppers ,cash the check and then deposit only their bill money that they have to pay through a debit card . Only cash deposits on the same day. It cost starting $3,000 to go to small claims court and they know this, so it would be financial stupid to sue them over $200.00. At least the one in LP had the look of shame while they lied to me. The older, fat, white woman at the SL branch was nasty, like I stole $200.00 off of her. They still bank the way you did in the 1980's, where someone comes in and does all the transaction via paper and sometimes it can take up to 3 days to have money deposited. So if you if you have automated payments it can bounce if you are living pay check to paycheck. Then they hit you with a fee. read more
