HORRIBLE place!!! I would recommend no one to go there! Gave him over 2 weeks to put a new zipper on my coat. Came in 2 days after said would be done, and did not have done. Was extremely rude, and said that he didn't make the zippers and I could take my coat elsewhere! Terrible customer service. Helpful if he would have called to let me know that my coat was NOT done, as to not spend my time driving over here, and could have come here to pick up when was done! I brought my wedding dresses here to get done after multiple price comparisons. Cheapest one around! For two wedding dresses (both with multiple layers), it was less than the cost to get one done! For my reception dress, I needed to get the bust taken out and wanted to shorten it, but kept having doubts. He did a raw cut with it much longer than discussed so I could see if getting it cut to mid-thigh was what I really wanted, therefore removing any doubt that it should be longer. Bust turned out perfect. No more "puckering" :) For my ceremonial dress, I needed the bust taken IN, but with the beading around, I was worried it would be very expensive. He took in the rib area and that took care of the problem. The beading was not touched and it worked out perfectly. I also didn't want to hem it, but put in pickups to shorten the dress. I have a horsehair lining (not sure how relevant that is) and others have said that it HAS to be hemmed (with a HUGE cost) . Altug didn't even blink. "No problem." he said. He was also very patient with me as I tried to figure out where I wanted the pickups. It took 3 tries, half hour each time. He waved off my apologies and told me that this was not just an everyday dress, but the one dress that I will wear once and it should be perfect. I've only been to one other taylor before coming here but I don't think I'll be seeing anyone else. The shop is very basic and you might even miss it if you drive by too quickly but his work is wonderful. I had two coats resized (one was quite a bit larger) and now both fit like a glove! Took my wedding dress here 5 years ago to have a bustle put in. After 5 years, I haven't really forgiven. The bustle was fine and inexpensive but my dress came back somewhat dirty. It wasn't completely filthy but there were gray smudges and common, it's a crisp white wedding dress, be careful! He also used a steamer on my dress, which was silk. I was surprised to hear this because it's pretty common knowledge that steam leaves water marks on silk. Again, these were not super noticeable and didn't ruin my wedding, but I noticed the marks. read more

I love this place. I've been here several times with anything from bridesmaids dresses in need of tailoring to pants needing a button sewn on (yes, I don't know how to sew on a button). I have used this place before and been pleased, however, today was an awful experience! I dropped two pair of pants off last Saturday and returned today (the date on my ticket) 45 minutes before they closed and they weren't ready. They are closed on Sundays and I can't get there during the week so I need them today. He asked if I could wait 30 minutes. When I said I was irritated that they were supposed to be done, he freaked out, threw my pants at me and said "I am only one person, take your pants somewhere else". The storefront is nothing fancy, but prices and service are amazing. I brought a pair of jeans to be hemmed (my short legs require it) and the process went so smoothly! I came in Tuesday afternoon, where I tried them on and he marked where I'd like them to be (be sure to bring in shoes you'd wear with your stuff so he can get the right length). They were done (perfectly) on Saturday, and for cheap ($12)! I saw a lot of brides and bridesmaids getting their dresses altered when I visited, and it's great to know he does the same great work with simple stuff as he does with complicated gowns. read more

I have been visiting NE Tailor for a few years now. I'd like to commend him for really going above and beyond recently while altering a party dress for me. I had to get a dress hemmed for a bridal shower I was attending. The day before, there was a horrible storm that put nearly our entire city out of power. I was worried that he didn't have had chance to hem the dress or wouldn't even be open for that matter. When I showed up, I was so impressed to see the tailor standing in a dark store with a rack of clothes that thankfully he had finished early and were available for pick up even in these conditions!! Similar experience to Alexander. I spent over $300 on alterations and would expect that they be done on time and of high quality. On at least three occasions, the work was not done when I came to pick them up. Two of those times, I even came a few days after the due date. Not even a call to say don't come by and waste your time. I have been there when other customers have come to get their stuff and seen him tell them they weren't ready either. Every single suit jacket collar (5 of them) had to be redone, some of them multiple times. I spent way too much time going to the shop and having to come back later. I thought Altug was a nice guy and probably still is, but the stress might be getting to him. Never said a word to him about the disappointing service over the countless visits for the first 5 jackets and always paid him his asking price. The last and final time I was there, I asked him if there could be done something about the price for two simple sleeve shortenings on the last two jackets I brought to him (this was the 6th and 7th jacket he did) for all the hassle I went through and he became enraged in front of two other customers. Told me to "get out of here before I lose it." If you do choose to go for simple alterations, don't compromise on things. Get them done right and to your satisfaction. He will try to convince you that things look OK so that he can move on. Otherwise, why even take it to a tailor? He must have been having a bad day since I'm the second customer to complain on 9/21/11. Sort by the date...his service is deteriorating. read more

I brought in my winter coat to have a couple of alterations and fixes. It was ready on time and for much less money than expected. As I was walking out I said that I'll be back with my current jacket soon because it had a small tear in it. Mutiple issues over several visits in 2011. Went back several times because Altug seemed conciliatory, but at the last trip he returned the 1/2 dozen items I had left there and lied to me in front of another customer, presumably to salvage that relationship. 1. At first visit, I was told hemming and repairs would be done in a week. I stopped by twice afterwards over next few weeks and clothes weren't done. Finally called before stopping by to confirm completion. He threw some of the minor repairs in for free. Returned home, tried on pants I had hemmed and realized there was a noticable scissors slice in the hem. I brought the pants back. He gave me $40 for them and told me he'd hem new ones I bought for free. Although I was displeased with the time delays and the ruined pants, I admired the customer service; the willingness to appease me. 2. Gave him another chance because of convenient proximity to my work at the time. Brought in some minor repairs and a coat that needed the sleeves shortened. Again, stopped by when told the clothes would be done and they weren't. Went back a couple weeks later to pick them up. Didn't try the jacket on until I got home. Sleeves were too short by about an inch. I didn't blame Altug initially because I approved it when he chalked them, but over the next few months I simmered about it, as he is a professional tailor and I believe he should have known what an appropriate sleeve length should be and not ask his customer where it should be. 3. Third and last visit. Dropped off sportcoat to have buttons replaced, a few shirts for button/buttonhole repairs, a back pack with ripped strap and a comfortable pair of pants with seam rip. I was told they'd be done in a week. Stopped in exactly two weeks later, they weren't done. When I walked in the shop, Altug said he had just started working on them. Stopped by two weeks after that. He was helping a customer fit a dress. Told me my items weren't done because he's been really busy. Told me I should have called before coming. Told me he had more important things he was working on. Yup. I kid you not. He was harried and raising his voice in front of this other customer. He asked if I wanted to take my things and go somewhere else. I did. That's it. I tried to be objective, so good luck if you choose to go there. I intend to return to Su's Express Alterations on Nicollet where I used to go. Not as convenient a location for me, but reasonable pricing and great service. read more

I went here because of the reviews. I brought a bridesmaid dress in the be hemed at the bottom. When I picked it up it looked horrible. I could of done a better job. He didn't use the right color string and the hem wasn't done the proper way. It looked like he spent 5 minutes on it. When I walked by the room where he does the sewing I saw my dress fabric on the floor(my dress was the only one that color there). I dropped a pair of suit pants off on a Saturday afternoon to have them taken in, and to have the zipper fixed. I was told by the tailor that because he was making preparations to leave town in a few days, it would take until Thursday afternoon for the work to be done. I don't generally have much call for a tailor, so I have no idea if this is a normal timeframe for this sort of thing, but I did not need the pants until Friday for a job interview so I was fine with it. However, when I show up to the shop at 3:30 on Thursday afternoon, the tailor had already locked up and left town. Had I known the tailor was not planning on honoring the timeframe he had given me I would have taken my business elsewhere. Now I have to wear a pair of black dress pants with the suit and pray to God its close enough to the same color. read more

So I was getting married last August in a non-traditional way - courthouse hitchin' Friday night followed by backyard tent party on Saturday. I bought a suit for each evening, and brought them here for pant alterations. The Saturday suit was beautifully done, and I still love the way it hangs. I actually love the Friday suit, too, but with the following unfortunate caveat: Altug ripped it. I read the reviews that he was great at his craft but sometimes scatterbrained as far as deadlines. I was fine with that. In fact, he did extend my pick up day once, and then on the second pick-up day he didn't make the time, so I had to wait while he finished the pants. That was fine - all I had to do that day was get the PA system for the reception six blocks away, so we were good. But the suit for the ceremony - the British suit (apparently they're thinner over there) was about a half-inch too small in the waist. He said it wasn't a problem to let it out, that there was more than enough fabric there to make me look good. He then tore the fabric when he took out the seam. Now the pants on my wedding suit have a little trail of tearor running down the ass just to the right of the seam. It's a small thing, and I'm sure no one noticed it on the day, but I don't know to what extent it will compromise the life of this suit, and I paid good money for this suit, and the first time I wore it (to get married) it was already marred. I love the neighborhood ambiance of this shop, and the personal attention Altug gives, but if he'd just told me the stitching was too tight to get the seam out, I'd have brought the pants back to the retailer. Now it was too late. I feel terrible giving two stars here, but I also felt terrible hoping my bride didn't notice the rip in my pants. read more

My husband dropped off a very expensive new pair of trousers for hemming and an expensive outerwear coat that needed a small repair. When he went to pick them up the owner insisted that he had already picked up the clothes, but he hadn't. The clothes had to have been given to someone else OR they were stolen from the front room since that is where he hangs his clothes for pick-up. Does that make sense? Someone can walk in and help themselves to whatever looks best. I'm so angry at this guy for letting this happen and for not accepting responsibility.
