It's been a few years; the last time I ate there was when it was focused on raw foods, and I guess still owned by Tomorrow & Roy. I've eaten there many times in the past, always excited to enjoy their delicious offerings. Was looking forward to sharing the Nectar Cafe goodies with my daughter on our way home from vacation. We got the following items as take out and ate on our long drive home. Chocolate shake: the ingredients listed did include banana; it should really be called a chocolate banana shake, because that's the dominant flavor. As a mostly raw-foodist, a raw shake can be truly delicious. This wasn't, unfortunately. Daughter got the southwest bowl. Said it was okay. Then held out two small stones she spat out while chewing a bite of her food...I was really glad she hadn't chipped a tooth! We didn't trust it was safe for her teeth to eat the rest...what a waste. I'm aware there is always a risk of stones when cooking with bulk dried grains and beans, and it's just unfortunate that we happened to end up with two. It is time consuming to wash the dried beans & then lift them out by hand, leaving any stones at the bottom of the bowl... But that's what it requires. I got the mushroom burger. It was overcooked and dry, and with each bite I kept waiting for the tangy thousand island dressing, tomato & cashew cheese... which, as it turns out, was only on one half of the burger. And then very little. Overall, it was sadly rather flavorless. But very salty. I really, really wish we had been able to stay there and eat these meals in person. Because then we would've been able to address the issues that arose. Instead, we wasted nearly $40 on rather mediocre fare. read more

The reviews don't lie, get the chorizo tacos. They're less pricey if you get just the tacos (2) and no beans/rice. Love that they have alcoholic beverages as well as nonalcoholic. I had the Kyla Sunset Trio hard kombucha which was yummy. About $20 for tacos, the drink, and a chocolate chips cookie. Only qualm is that you are expected to tip but you have to clean up your own plates and order at a counter. But they do deliver your food to you! I would come back. read more

Convenient location. Average food. Below average service. Premium San Francisco Pricing - check check and check. Lots of great options in Auburn to settle for a mediocre meal, unless it's a pit stop. On the way to Tahoe, this is a quick stop off the freeway. Parking wasn' a challenge. Street parking is free. The first thing that inundates you is the massive menu. And the counter lady wasn't very helpful or knowledgeable in recommending the most interesting items in the menu. Almost like she wasn't interested in the job. We got an orange mocha ($6), which was a special. You have 3 options for 2%, almond and cashew milk. We opted for almond. I like me coffee to be hot or even warm is acceptable, however this coffee lacked much of anything, cacao or coffee, except they did amp up the orange flavor. It would all be forgivable if the coffee was warm. Tepid to the point of being almost took temperature - yuck! There's counter service to place your order, and your meal gets brought to you. Next we tried the tacos - vegan chorizo and portabello and portabello. Skip the chorizo. Portabello was average. With a large side of beans and rice. $14 for under flavored tacos. We also got a hippie girl sandwich. The bread was a nice slice of multi grain goodness and the filling of chick pea, tomato and sauce was slightly better than average. It comes with a side of a single piece of pickle and chips (but no guacamole or salsa). Food is a religion to me. And I like to be kind to anyone who works in the grueling food service business. Heck I am polite and decent with everyone, but if someone is indifferent and doesn't care, it makes the food taste less special. I may be biased here, so do try the place once if you are in the cute town of Auburn. We will give the place a hard pass unless the owner gets more knocked with their counter staff. Note: The person who brought our meal as well as the other person begin the counter were wonderful and seemed to be happy to be here. However one instance of bad behavior can affect a restaurants perception. Sigh, disappointed as I had high hopes with Nectar. read more

My office is just down the street from Nectar which makes it nice so that I can just walk over. The restaurant is near a lot of other good options and outdoor dining/hanging out is offered. Vegetarian options are actually plentiful in the area which is really cool. I love Nectar. They have a lot of great choices, all look great and taste great! There is one item that I especially love and that is the Coconut Bacon Lettuce Tomato Avocado sandwich. It is so dang delicious... what takes it to another level, it's the coconut bacon. I've yet to run across this anywhere else. I've shared with meat lovers and they have all agreed that it is extremely yummy. Give this place a try, you should love it. The dish was mostly black beans and dry chips. It's probably a lot better with a good portion of melted cheese. I do enjoy the food... however if they can not train their "customer service" staff, teaching them that providing warm and friendly Service is important, almost the MOST important aspect of dining out, then I guess it's just not that important to them. Loved it! Such a gem in a cute little town. Being vegan is rarely difficult when I'm at home in Los Angeles, but it can be a more of a challenge anytime I find myself on the road. Not knowing the area, I was unsure what we would find. Then this great place grabbed our attention! The patio is perfect for hanging out and there is an extensive list of food options on their menu. They had great attention to detail, all the way down to the pink Himalayan sea salt on all the tables.
