Then again, it is a regional art gallery, so they generally don't tend to be all that large, or at least this one wasn't particularly large. Mind you, the painting did happen to be a rather famous Australian painting, and there were an awful lot of information, and sketches, associated with it as well. It was a shame that they didn't have other rooms where they had local art, or at least a collection, though because I didn't have to pay to go inside, that certainly was a bonus.

Great wines, great fire place and the views are amazing. Fantastic ambience, outddor dining and wines in a lovely setting a gem of a spot. Only downfall 5min drive to Dookie to stay at the pub or 35 minutes back to Shepparton or Benalla. I would love to see a 'Sip and Snore' like the Sydney Zoo Roar and Snore where you go glamping in a Arabian style tents with real beds and sip on wine and eat cheese by a fire, watch a sunset and retire into your tent....... if only they would do that then it takes the venue to anohter level.

Why take a bottle home and risk my dodgy cellaring options (in a box under my bed) when I can just pay an extra $20 on the current vintage price and get something with 10 years of age on it already? Brown Brothers is huge and while I don't necessarily enjoy a lot of their "mainstream" drops (the stuff that is made to fly off the shelves at every single bottle-o across the country) some of their more experimental grape styles are bangin'. The prosecco and sparkling are some of the best produced in Australia. I admire the focus on family and tradition here and like that even for a short visit I'm made to feel like I'm part of that extended family by the warm and welcoming staff.

And a set menu. With a choice from 2 mains and 2 desserts. One set price including drinks. We had a glass of wine on arrival and a glass of Muscat with our dessert.Poor old mum was getting a little dehydrated we were not asked if we wanted drinks until I went to the bar to get some water. It was table service only. And only to bring out our food. We really did not see them waiting tables apart from meals. There were no drink waiters. The entree pizza was beautiful. Everything a pizza should be. Nice crust with lots of flavour. The mains was quite ordinary. Prawns with coriander salad. Served with house bread. No bread to be seen. Instead the prawns were put on rice noodles and totally lacked flavour. The coriander salad was coriander and a little rocket tossed in some sort of dressing. Dessert was nice. Citrus tart served with muscat. I must say for a winery and the wine that was served you could not fault. I'm on the search for it in Dan Murphy's. Can't remember the name but its a house wine. Pink but not sparkling sweet not to sweet though and not a dry after taste. Never liked muscat but I could go more of that particular one. I would try this place for a second time afterall it was a recommendation. And first judgement is not always the best judgement.
