This is one of those antique malls that is literally mind blowing - being on vacation I didn't want to spend more than a hour or so here so as much as I enjoyed my visit I really didn't give it the time it deserves. The entire shop is filled with quality items that spans the history of the area and beyond, it's like going to a museum that offers everything for sale. As massive as this place is it's very clean and well organized and to ensure you have the best experience it offers clean restrooms and even a very cute snack bar on the second floor, this is a well thought out business so if you have plenty of time there's no need to rush through. The staff here is very pleasant and will help answer any questions you have but will also allow you to shop at your leisure without any constant oversight. There are so many themed booths and open areas that are filled with a wide range of collectibles and lots of memorabilia and although I didn't make a purchase today I thought the prices were very reasonable. There's plenty of parking available and once you look at the size of the building you'll be wondering how could they have enough stock to fill this place without junking it up, but they did, the top floor alone I think is over 25,000 square feet I started on the first level so I barely touched the second floor due to time constraints, this is definitely a destination... read more

Staff is friendly and welcoming, it's two stories, it does have an elevator which is very nice. The cafe wasn't working when I visited today. It appears to be mostly tea and coffee set up. It might be something new. The selection is varied, though most is vintage. Some nice pieces of vintage art pottery, one dealer had some excellent paintings from the 1800's. They were priced accordingly as expected. Though collectors would not be put off. Some nice Lalique, and other well known pieces. The area was hit hard last year by the hurricane, it's coming back. It's well worth the trip as fall approaches and it's on the way to Asheville. I was unable to stop in downtown unfortunately, I had my other half. I won't make that mistake again! This place was HUGE!! It took me about 3 hours to walk through everything, but I made sure to move quickly so I wasn't there all day. I definitely could've stayed longer. My favorite part of the entire place was all of the historic paintings they had for sale! While I am not exactly in the market for a beautiful painting like these ones, it was very cool to see them as well as their certificates of authenticity. The history in this building had me in awe. The building itself os very old and I came on a rainy day so there were buckets collecting water from leaks throughout the building. This didn't effect my experience though. I would definitely come here again but perhaps in a year or so in order for there to be different stuff. read more

Buyers BEWARE! This is a large mall with lots of great items but the man checking people out behind the counter was cheating me out of my discounts and seemed perturbed when I pointed it out. He didn't know how to go back and fix it and when he tried he did it wrong! He basically didn't know how to use their point of sale system SOS which many malls including my own use. When I tried to offer assistance he kept saying their system was different (which it is not). The incompetence blew me away and as a reseller I was really angry! You just cannot have people checking out that don't know the system. Will never go back! read more

Wow!!! Unbelievable collection of everything, antiques galore!! Glass, pottery, toys, books, clothing, military memorabilia, Clocks, jewelry, furniture & more! If you go plan on spending a couple hours, we didn't get through the first floor and didn't see the second floor shops at all!! All booths are owned by individuals, prices were clearly marked, and a lot had sales from 20 to 50% off! Can't wait to go back and see the rest. read more

Gave this location a five star because of the abundance of variety you have to pick from. Definitely must go with more than 2 hours to spare. It's a maze in there and your time will easily be consumed. Really cool stuff, takes you way back into time :) If you visit this location, and build an appetite (like I did), there is a small cafeteria on the second floor. It is self served and seemed like they rely on the honor system for you to pay on your way out. This is risky on the business owners, but please, if you purchase something, remember to pay for what you consumed on the way out :) BTW - coffee is free =D read more

saw a billboard that said 200+ booths so we stopped on our road trip to stretch our legs here. we were pleasantly surprised by the whimsy of the layout which made it more fun to browse. nooks and crannies and oddly positioned rooms everywhere. the booths are just okay but we still had fun and it seems they may be under new ownership so it could be getting only better soon. i heard mention of a full cafe? read more

My husband and I have been to a number of antique stores in NC, seriously, we have a map that shows almost all of them. We took the drive from Gastonia to Hendersonville to check out this store. We have been to both Sleepy Poet stores, so we understand higher prices nearer to Charlotte, but we were not prepared for the prices we saw here. There were no rude people, they were playing 80's-90's rock on the system, which we happen to love, and we are familiar with not bringing bags into stores, so to us, that is no big deal. People were very nice to us and welcoming, there is usually no help in stores that do consignment booths, unless you get lucky or ask for help. We have a NUMBER of pieces that are pristine and truly unique, we love antiques, and have curated quite the collection in our home, with significant value that we have acquired over a few years, from different antique stores in different states. We were looking for specific items, such as collectible statues, and a table for the entryway of the house. We don't necessarily need it to be a "table" we use furniture in different ways in our home. We found that we could not afford anything, and I do mean anything that might even work on the entire first floor, needless to say, we did not explore the second. We were disenchanted by then, and felt it would have wasted our time to continue looking. It is very sad that the individual sellers have put such heavy price tags on the items that otherwise would have been snapped up by, from what I see, a lot of folks. Amazing place. It's labyrinthine. You'll literally discover room after room of interesting and needful stuff. I didn't even know there was a second floor until I read it here moments ago. I've truly never seen anything like it. As a self-described "jazz fanatic", I managed to find the lone jazz CD in a room near the entrance. What a find though. A flawless copy of pianist Marion McPartland's In My Life recording for Concord Records (1993). One of her very best. I got a Needful Thing to be certain. read more

I agree totally with the other reviewers on the fact that the large sign telling you to not bring in bags or purses is extremely offputting. As if that weren't bad enough, the lady at the desk snapped at me to put my purse in a locker. Wth? I just moved from San Francisco, a large city, and NEVER went anywhere ever that had me lock my purse in a locker. Needless to say, they lost points with me immediately. The place is huge - too big in my opinion - totally overwhelming and not at all organized well. (and nobody tried to help us even once in the whole two hours we were there.) All of this was bad enough, but when we stumbled upon the room with NAZI MEMORABILIA (SS helmets, bullet casings and the whole freaking nine yards!!!) I was disgusted. This was made more bizarre by the fact that the whole time they were piping in Christian church music all over the store. Gotta love that combo. If you love rude people, being overwhelmed, Church music and Nazi memorabilia, this is your place. read more

We spent two hours here and still didn't see it all! This place has everything, real antiques, lots of "collectibles " as well as some reproductions. We had a great time and thought prices were all over the place. If you don't like the price you don't have to buy it, but we found some excellent bargains. Totally understand the "no purses or backpacks " and they offer free lockers for storage. read more

I have purchased from Needful Things often over the last years. Following our visit today, my husband and I have decided to no longer share our time nor money with this business. We have strong political views ourselves but NEVER foist them on others - clearly Needful Things management does not share the same respectful philosophy. When I first entered the space I was overwhelmed with the fine antiques and prices to match.....but I went deeper and found many items that I wanted and price points I prefer. Fantastic, exceptional find! This is a very large space, so be prepared and wear comfortable shoes. My husband and I did not enter with a purse, backpack, or any other type of large bag, so we didn't even know this wasn't permitted until reading the few negative reviews. I have to admit that we both totally understand this need, as this establishment is huge, and the responsibility for every item in every booth is also huge. While 90+% of us don't steal, the reality is that some do. There's also the possibility of a purse or backpack knocking an item over and causing damage. We generally shop everywhere with necessities (car keys, phone, ID, cash, credit card, etc.) in our pockets to minimize weight and bulk, while maximizing comfort and freeing up both hands. If this (checking your purse or backpack) is a big deal to you, you should skip Needful Things, although that would be a big loss. We only got through 1 floor in 2 hours (!) and will definitely return another time for the 2nd foor. The merchandise is extremely varied, including some items we have never seen before. Lots of jewelry, cut glass, crystal, pottery, books, furniture, art, clothing, handbags, tools, kitchenware, etc. in all styles and price ranges. This place was AMAZING! Be prepared to spend several hours there and bring walkie talkies . But seriously, there is SO much to look at. The price ranges from high end unique antiques to very reasonably priced everyday pieces. There is something for everyone. The owners were very helpful and super personable. All of the vendors keep their booths in good order and price most of their pieces clearly. Just make sure your tag matches the booth number if there's a sale. Sometimes people move stuff into the wrong booth. I picked up several mirrors for staging furniture, a couple of 50% super cool items for myself & my husband found a few things for himself too. We will definitely be back with more time allotted to explore. PS anyone that owns their own business understands the no large bag policy. They provide lockers. Imagine being responsible for all of your vendor booths but not having eyes all over the store at all times. Plus large bags around lots of breakable items is asking for a disaster. Put it in your trunk if you don't want to use the lockers and don't let something so petty ruin an awesome time. read more

Tons of neat and not so neat stuff. But everything is overpriced. I did see something I liked so I asked the cashier to please call the owner of the booth to see if they would lower the price. She refused to call and said they were only authorized for up to a ten percent discount. Every consignment shop I've been to allows up 10 percent less on most items for sale. That's nothing special! But I've never heard of cashier arefusing to call the owner of the booth who wasn't there at the time. If you're looking not to overpay for collectibles or vintage items, don't bother. There are lots of other great places in the surrounding area that are more reasonable. read more

Found a couple of rocking chairs at this store. Sent my husband back the next day to check them out. He was told he could have them for 20% off if he paid cash, check, or debit card. He ask them to hold them til he could return the next day with cash. They said he could go ahead and pay for them with a credit card and have the 20% since he lived so far away. He bought them and then when he got home realized that he didn't get the 20%. Gave him only 10%. He called them the next day and they said they didn't say that. So much for honesty. First and last time I will visit this place. read more
